Dan Le Batard had the same take on his show today and brought up when his own suspension happened along with Curt Schilling's suspensions and firing. He likes Jemele Hill and respects her and agrees with her opinions, but also understands ESPN's reasons for suspending her. Which ultimately was for insubordination in all three cases. Yea, there's a time and a place and whatever apology she put out there before about how she should keep that to herself obviously was hollow This really isn't a right or wrong issue but more so insubordination as stated. Schilling went above and beyond which is why he was fired but Hill is probably on thin ice now because she's gotten in trouble before long ago when she was doing the college games

And I agree ESPN is very wishy washy with their discipline approach but they also let their anchors and personalities say a lot of shit on air they probably shouldn't so it leads to things like this

The weird thing with ESPN, as LeBatard also said, is that they almost prefer this stuff happens on their airwaves versus on social media or other TV shows or radio stations.

I can sort of buy that, look at how they let Skip and Cowherd talk shit all the time because it drew ratings to them but Jemele isn't saying it on the air, she's saying it on Social Media Dan openly criticizes ESPN on the air but they hardly do anything until he steps over a line

Yeah, they suspended him twice. Once for selling his Baseball HoF vote to Deadspin and the other time was for the Lebron billboards in Cleveland. And they didn't even suspend him specifically for the billboards themselves but for insubordination because they told him not to do it and he did it anyway. He also talked about a similar line he crossed when he was writing for the Miami Herald as a young reporter and used the B-word (boycott, that is) in an article of his. And his editor was like "Hey, don't use that word in articles. It's bad for everyone."
That's part of why I love listening to his show, because he talks a lot about the inner workings of ESPN not just as a journalistic entity, but as a business, too. And I think he's usually really objective about it, at least as far as an employee of ESPN can be.

I used to find Dan a blowhard and not a great listen but he's def someone who tells it like it is At this point he knows he can talk shit on ESPN and won't get fired, which he's admitted on air before I like that he doesn't have his head up his ass like a Simmons or Schilling

It's all about content. If you've got something that talks down on ESPN occasionally, that's catering to a portion of your audience that is dissatisfied with ESPN. But it's doing so on your network. So if you want to see programming that criticizes ESPN, they've got the market cornered on that too. It's sly, but it fits right in with ESPN's attempt to always be divisive. That everything they have to cover has to be this vs. that and you have to choose and we'll provide guys on both sides of it so you can have people you agree with and like and people you disagree with and loathe. And the funny thing about it is Dan is the guy who is both on ESPN, occasionally switching between critic who doesn't care about job security and being very pro-ESPN. Though he does it in a way that doesn't seem disingenuous and cheap. But again, it fits right in with what ESPN tries to do.

IN my opinion, stick a fork at SC6, it's done as Jenee Hill is suspended for 2 weeks for her latest tweets urging fans to boycott Cowboys sponsors. t.co/9poJzq62FF?amp=1They'll just bring in someone else if she gets a 3rd strike because that was her 2nd She obviously isn't learning from her previous mistake and i'm sure Michael Smith is calling her like what the f*** Nah, Smith is on his 5th different show that they have made for him. All unsuccessful ratings wise, but he seems like a nice guy and ties the company line, so he'll always get another shot. Here's how much influence Jemele has, I didn't know she was suspended until I read this thread. ESPN used to be the only station I watched and Sportscenter was my shit growing up, now the entire station is unwatchable, even baseball games on there were bad this year.

I mean why mess up a good thing where you got a radio and TV show in which they hired your father as well You got Shannon Sharpe trying to tell Hill to come over to FS1 but that'd be a bad move for her as a whole, she just needs to learn to stay off social media

The other thing with LeBatard is that both with his radio show and Highly Questionable a lot of the times the sports talk plays second fiddle to other stuff. Or they'll interview sports guests and don't even ask a single question about sports. Like Mark Teixeira was a guest on the radio show yesterday and the entire interview was about movies and Derek Jeter's exploits with the ladies. It was great.
Arguably the most popular segment on the LeBatard Show is Miami Zoo director Ron Magill's weekly spot talking about animals and doing pro-wrestling style commentary to crazy animal videos.

One of my favorite things is when HQ started doing a lot of interviews. Because you've got all these paid "journalists" and "analysts" and the most interesting interview questions were being asked by Papi, who had no business being in that spot but is actually better at pulling out personality on these athletes than someone who has been in the business forever like Mike friggin Greenberg. It was hilarious and embarrassing and I loved it. This guy literally off the street doing better than these professionals. Also, speaking of entertaining and having almost nothing to do with sports, the segment with Kurkjian where fans send in what different athletes and coaches look like while Kurkjian giggles like a little girl. It's nonsense and it's my favorite part of the show.

I totally get what Jemele was saying and I agree to an extent, but there's only so many media jobs out there and she's on a platform that very few women ever get to. It's weird...like I'm not telling her to keep mum on the issue but...at the same time, she's probably getting paid millions to do a show and it just seems like she's hurting her pockets moreso than making any significant change...if that makes sense?

The mini story arc starring Adnan Virk as the CIA Agent who saves James Bond's life from Skip Bayless trying to assassinate him as he says "Mr. Bond, Welcome to Tangier" was one of my favorite things in recent memory. Especially as Adnan used "Welcome to Tangier" as his home run call a few times afterwards.

The thing is there is a time and place and she knows this You made a comment before that could have gotten you suspended but they stood by you and then you make another comment and that's not to say she's wrong in either comment but you know you was just in hot water and yet you still do this It's insubordination on a pretty basic level which is why she got suspended. Hurting ESPN bottom line which is the NFL also isn't going to fly However, as I said before ESPN let, their on air personalities say things they probably shouldn't say or they step over a line and have to dial it back (See Stephen A Smith and Tony Kornhiser as main offenders)

I really do think Jemele would've been fine if she didn't use the dreaded "B-Word" on twitter and linked to the post that had that list of sponsors. She could've railed against Jerry Jones during a lead-in segment of SC6 and everything would've been a-ok.

Yea, if it was on the Network than she probably would of been fine, but she went "rogue" in this sense and so close after her recent "controversy" I guess when she comes back she will apologize again but as I said before you already got people like Shannon Sharpe trying to get her to FS1 which doesn't make sense as they already come off as 2nd rate As I said before there's a time and place and she has the platform to speak on these things with her own show but she rather do it on Social Media

It's also kinda funny because if anything, this makes her voice carry more weight in certain circles, including the media industry. After she comes back from her suspension, she might have even more of a platform.

She def has a little voice behind her name because of the person who mentioned her a few times already (won't get into that) She should use this to speak out more but just do it on air like the majority of the others on ESPN do. To her credit she's not coming out shitting on ESPN for her suspension yet but her name is def known more outside of ESPN than it was at any point in her career
