BioShock Infinite is easily the worst AAA game of last gen to get slobbered for all over by critics. The gameplay is dumbed down massively compared to the first. The RPG elements are almost gone entirely, the actual shooting is nothing but 8 hours of playing horde mode over the same areas in Columbia over and over again, you can't plan or set up traps for the Handymen like you could with the Big Daddies, the vigors are worthless, I could go on all day.
Then there's the story and all the big themes it tries to tackle.
RACISM! XENOPHOBIA! CLASS WARFARE!
All so deep and meaningful for a video game about killing evil amish sky-people. But the thing is: none of that shit is "deep" at all. They have no bearing on the story or any of the characters' actions at all. They're just these things that cause Elizabeth to gasp while Booker goes "Yep, these things sure do exist. Pretty f***ed, right?"
What a dumb videogame BioShock Infinite is. Dummy dumb-dumb game.

People will find this controversial, but NFL 2K5. I don't even find it to be better than Madden 2005 from a gameplay standpoint. It's better with all its bells, and whistles, but it had some terrible franchise breaking glitches, and just played way too stiff for my tastes. Not that I think it's bad game because it's not, and I still own a copy. I just people think people over glamorize it because of what happened afterwards.

At this point, I think GTA IV is underrated. I see way more negative feedback than positive now. For my money, it really is one of the best games ever made. But because it wasn't over the top and funny like its predecessors (or GTA V, for that matter) it seems to catch a bad rep. I genuinely think GTA IV would be more fondly remembered if it wasn't under the GTA banner. It's a solid game, but it never felt like a GTA game to me. I suppose the best way I can put it is imagine if Lethal Weapon was made as a sequel to Naked Gun. Good movie, but the contrast to previous entries in the series is just too big.

One of my best friends said basically the same thing. He had read a lot of the criticisms and asked if I thought he should try it, and I told him yes. When he got back to me about it, he said he loved the game and felt that if it had been called anything else, it would pretty well be unanimously considered one the best ever. But yeah, it is quite the jump from Vice City and San Andreas. And while I love those games, I think that's something I really appreciated about IV.

Halo.
The overall game's not bad (in fact, it felt quite refreshing at the time of its debut), but it's way overrated. Probably the most overrated FPS I've ever played. (Bear in mind that I stay away from the Call of Duty series.)
My main beef with Halo is that it features the absolute worst indoor level design I've ever experienced in a FPS. Even Wolfenstein 3D features better level design than Halo's copy-and-paste sloppy excuse for indoor level layouts. To its credit, the outdoor levels are much better, but there aren't many of them.
I thought the plot to Halo was very generic, cliched, and I didn't connect with Master Chief at all because he is literally a faceless hero.
I'll give Halo props for being innovative with regenerating health and arbitrary weapon limits, but now I've come to hate those things because they've been imposed on virtually all FPS games, detracting from my enjoyment of titles like FEAR 3 and Duke Nukem Forever. The worst thing about regenerating health is that it gives you no incentive to ration your health kits and encourages you to be reckless in battle with the knowledge that you'll be back at 100% health if you just passively wait a bit between taking hits (or until the next battle). Level design has suffered as a result of this; fewer secrets are being incorporated into maps because there is no incentive to discover secrets for the purpose of finding (limited) healing supplies.
