But how realistic is the expectation that characters can be different personality-wise from the people playing them? We've _all_ grown so used to seeing these people on social media and engaging with sports and entertainment media (not to mention the public) that it is almost impossible to put a wall between the real person and the ring character, especially when the company continues to release promotional videos and interviews with these stars in a casual or at-home setting. If it forces wrestlers to back the hell away from Twitter and Instagram, that'd be a positive all by itself. I agree totally with this. I'm of the opinion that WWE shouldn't be using these media - it's supposedly too big for this kind of nitty-gritty. It needs to act more like a company in this way - leave the instant social media for huge announcements on the fly and that's it.

People much bigger than WWE included.

We'd do it the same way we do with any other actors. It's not hard. It's embarrassing to see, like, Lana's twitter: half Russian businesswoman, half hip-hop dancer from Florida. The WWE trying to mush character and actor together is awkward, forcing a split would help a lot.

We'd do it the same way we do with any other actors. It's not hard. It's not hard if you think of wrestling as just another form of entertainment. It's not, however - its roots lie in sport. If you reduce wrestling to purely and solely stagecraft, you remove so much of wrestling's hold on its audience - the suspension of disbelief - that you might as well remove the ring and simply make it a television drama like _Criminal Minds_ or _Grey's Anatomy_. You basically end up with _Knights and Warriors_ or _American Gladiators_ without the lulz.

What you're talking about isn't suspending disbelief, it's requiring there to be an element of reality so you don't HAVE to suspend your disbelief, and that's dumb; we don't need it for other shows, and we don't need it here. Also, I'm not sure what you mean by referencing American Gladiators... that show WAS an actual competition, albeit with a whole lot of pageantry.

I mean ABSOLUTELY no disrespect with this question so I hope not to offend anyone
Don't know if it's been mentioned but there's a thread about Nia Jax's new men's shirt and her song even says I'm not like most girls so could she be an undercover person in drag or a former man now a female
No offense though as I actually don't mind her or am I overthinking this?

Also, have I ever told you that "The Underdog From The Underground" probably means that Sami Zayn is actually a homeless furry that spent his youth living in the sewers in poverty?

"In this business, we try to be the best sports entertainers we can be, to please the WWE Universe. So I'm here in this very ring, quite frankly, to say two things, first I want a title opportunity for WWE World Heavyweight Championship, because the WWE World Heavyweight Championship is the most important title in sports-entertainment, and secondly, I'm gay"

I'm heartened that they specifically say "characters." The more we can tease apart the stupid requirement that WWE wrestlers "play themselves," the better. The problem with most WWE wrestlers is that they don't play themselves enough. The biggest stars in history played themselves but to a higher degree. (Except George The Animal Steel)
