I'm cool with hunting. I think anyone who eats meat but cries foul on hunting is a hypocrite. I hate online harassment and social media discourse in general. She put it out there so people can comment, but the way people choose to do it is usually a helluva lot angrier and more exaggerated than they'd be in person. I'm against hunting endangered or threatened species. There's simply no need outside of "look at this cool thing I killed!" and that's not a good enough reason to kill something that is scarce. Put all those in a blender, that's how I feel. Probably the strongest on thinking it's wrong to kill endangered/threatened species for fun. I think there's a massive difference in eating meat from animals that are bred for that purpose and putting a bullet between the eyes of a giraffe.

I don't have a problem with hunting in principle, though I don't enjoy it personally. But I'm not a fan of hunting exotic game like giraffes, lions, rhinos, etc. That said, bullying a 12-year-old girl is not cool, regardless of the circumstances.

I don't see an issue with regulated hunting. Quite frankly, many of the natural hunters have had their populations significantly reduced for our own purposes (safety, expanding into their territory, etc.), so it actually can be a real issue for population control. Take the wolf/moose interaction on Isle Royale in Lake Superior. Basically, the average population of wolves is about 23 and of moose is between 1200-1800. On average, the wolves eat about one moose/wolf/week. That means that if there are 25 wolves, then about 25 moose get killed and eaten every week. When the wolf population drops (there was an outbreak of a canine virus a few years ago that killed nearly 75% of the wolves, for instance), then the moose population overeats their local ecology and hundreds of them starve to death each year instead of being eaten.
Considering that example, how many places have significant numbers of alpha predators still around? In the US alone, there are huge stretches where wolves, bears, and cougars have been exterminated locally. Hunting deer actually prevents thousands of them from starving to death or eating human crops.
Then again, I'm a person who carries uses animals in cancer research, so perhaps I'm not sensitive enough to the concerns.

Yeah, ff we didn't have hunters in Michigan, our roads would be un-drivable (even moreso) because of all the deer.

800 orphans??? Seriously?? That's overcompensating by about 790 orphans.
Hunting is fine, but when you're traipsing across the globe to shoot something, it's not really hunting anymore. You just like killing things and they aren't where you live to kill.

Is there any veracity to the "we killed the giraffe for food and fed 800 orphans!" story? Sounds way too "white savior" to be believable out of hand. Jeez we're using this term in the real world now?

I don't see what the achievement is, I could defeat anything with a gun in my hand...even Brock Lesnar!
Kill a giraffe with your bare hands and then I might be a tad more impressed with you posing for a photograph with its carcass.

You put him in the Octagon with Hannah Montana with a 12 guage and Vegas odds are evening up" Doug Stanhope. Not a direct quote, but the basic wording.

She bagged a beautiful beast. Looks like it was a fun hunt. Hope she has many years of successful harvests. Taking a giraffe at 12 years old is impressive.

Was it hunted legally? Is the meat being used?
I don't see what the problem is. It very well could be a giraffe that was too old or the area has a herd that is threatening to overgraze.

I can't stand this shit. It's just come into the news in the UK because Piers Morgan questioned her yesterday on a TV show over here I think.
I don't know enough about hunting to get too much into it, and I don't want to know about hunting, I love all animals... but why a f***ing giraffe? We've managed to help half the number of giraffes in the World over the past 15 years but whatever, as long as little Miss spoilt brat can have a stupid f***ing vacation with her Dad who thinks he's action man and she can get a cool profile picture then who cares, right? Like, why the f*** is she wearing camo and war paint, she could most likely walk up to the damn thing.
It pisses me off.

My doctor told me to cut out red meats entirely due to my gastric issues but I always wanted to try bison.

Personally, I'm a big proponent of eating invasive species. They wreck our ecosystem so we should at least put them on the menu.
I have heard great things about lionfish, Canada geese, and even nutrias.
And, while I'm not into hunting (don't even pike seeing killing in fiction, plus I was shot by a BB gun when I was a kid), I'm for regulated hunting & requirements about using the meat. Too many dipshits just bag the trophy and waste the rest.
