Inspired by the thread about popular games you've never played...
What are the obscure games you've played a lot of?
And by obscure, I mean OBSCURE. For exemple, Fire Pro isn't that obscure. There's a whole community of people playing it.
For me, the answer is Formula 1: Built To Win on the NES.
To me, no racing game hooked me as much as F1: Built To Win.
You could buy new cars. Upgrade the different parts of your car. Race many different tracks with distinct backgrounds and a nice difficulty curve. And then, when you think you are through with the game because you've finished all the tracks in the continental US, you realize that all of this was just the start, and you graduate to Formula 1 circuits where you tour the world racing for actual F1 teams.
It blew my mind back then, and looking back today, it was way ahead of its time. IMO, no realistic racing game touched it before Ridge Racer 4 and Gran Turismo.
Another answer for me would be Tecmo Deception on PS1. Loved being evil and setting up monsters and traps to kill the hero of the day trying to invade my base.
What about yours?

Total Distortion, a game on PC where you play a music video director who lived in space, you would go around with a camera filming stock footage of scenery, sometimes being challenged by robots and aliens armed with guitars, where you'd have to have out rock them to death. In your studio you'd take that footage, pick a song, impose B-roll clips of people dancing and stuff in there, compile music videos and sell them for space bucks.
I loved Omikron on Dreamcast just because it had David Bowie peppered in there throughout the game. You play as a guy who was playing a game that he got sucked into, and I can't remember much from there outside of every time you'd travel to a new city, there would be a club/bar somewhere where a martian David Bowie would be playing a gig that you could watch.

Haunting starring Poulterguy on the Sega Genesis
Played this game some much when it came out. But until a few years ago never heard anyone mention it.

Deception was good. They have one for the PS Vita but I haven't bothered to pick it up yet.
Kentucky Route Zero and its interludes. I think it'll eventually catch on but right now it's still way under the radar and there's little discussion about it. A few articles here and there saying "hey guys this is actually really cool" but that's it. The only community for it that I know of is the subreddit that has like five people including myself.
The two Persona 2 games are another one I'll have to mention. I even see people constantly refer to Persona 3 as "the first one", as if the 3 is just for show. Considering how f***ing dumb Japanese titles tend to be sometimes, though, I don't know how much I can really blame them.
And Snowboard Kids 2...that game was the shit.

Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure on PS2. It's literally just the Tony Hawk games with the cast of Toy Story, Lion King, & Tarzan.

When I was little and had no money for Sega games, whatever was cheapest was what I got. So among older sports games, I got gems like this. Not a terrible game, but I really wish I'd been able to afford something better.

As said in that other thread. I grew up with home computers like the Commodore 64, Amiga 500 + 600. So I played lots of obscure games like:
Black Magic
Forbidden Forest
and
Obliterator

Dunno if they'd be considered obscure, but ULTRA Games' Defender of the Crown (NES) and it's successor for the PS2, Robin Hood: Defender of the Crown. The first one, you pick a lord and try to win battles, jousting tournaments and save maidens to unite England. You can enlist Robin Hood's help. The latter, you ARE Robin Hood, doing the same thing. More lands, lords and details.
Another couple I don't hear mentioned is Nobuniga's Ambition (feudal Japan) and North & South (American Civil War), another pair of rewrite history type of games.

NA is like the precursor to a lot of games being played now. Most of your months is spent either training your army or planting/growing/selling rice. But, you do invade Prefecture 18 first. He dies in the first month.

Catherine for 360. Normally I hate puzzle games but this one is really good. It's also one that rarely gets mentioned when the subject of puzzle games come up from what I seen. It is pretty addicting as you go from stage to stage and really makes you think about how to manipulate the blocks to get to the goal. It's worth playing if you can find a copy.

There's a following, but it's almost never mentioned in 'Best of' lists. It's a lot of fun and creative though.
