The only was he was squashing AJ at 'Mania was if Vince meant a returning AJ Lee.

Internet favorite CM Punk releases tell all podcast about WWE: "I can't beleve WWE would do that! Poor Punk! Wah Wah Wah!" Ryback realeases tell all podcast about the WWE: "He's stupid!"
What makes Punk more legitimate than Ryback? Not asking this with an an agenda. I myself am undecided regarding the verity of both podcasts. I just find the disparity of responses interesting.

Oh looks, Ryback got screwed over by management and talked negatively about WWE so he must be bitter. Bitter bitter.
Bitter.

I agree completely with that last line, I've never understood why WWE can't make more than one person look strong. You grow everyone's brand and everyone is making money, and you're making more money.
There can be more than one top guy. And your top heel needs to be on the same level as your top face, or it won't work. Vince seems to have forgotten this in the last 10 years.

Don't remember anyone saying he was stupid, probably a lot of truth to what he says. But I also believe he embellished it somewhat as well. Squashing AJ and a contract that big, for someone who's been a midcarder at best for a few years now seems like a stretch. But as far as being promised the world, and it not being delivered? That I 100% believe

But they're both the same opinion. I'm saying "He's stupid" for him believing Vince because how shady and obvious these "I'll owe you one" kinda promises are and how piss poor their practices have been proven to be with talents. In both of these it's "Vince is a liar". Punk was higher in the pecking order and it was more understandable for him to believe these things. Ryback thinking he had this kinda superstar treatment coming when he's much lower in that same order is why I made my post at least, and I'm a fan of the big guy. This sort of false promise to deal with wrestlers egos is probably the standard practice dating back to day one for all bookers. Just a part of the business. These guys should know when they have smoke being blown up their ass.

I have always found it odd that the WWE doesn't cover travel or hotel costs for its talent. That has to eat up a ton of the talent's budget every year. I remember reading how Foley and Austin would share hotel rooms in divey parts of town or sleep in there car sometimes to save a few bucks. And this was during 1998

Well, minus the fact that Ryback probably did not complain that he was cajoled into working with Punk after already hurting him in their previous run. If there is any difference to me regarding Punk and Ryback, it's in part about how differently Ryback seemed to act regarding other people's safety and their resultant injuries. There have been workers who were unsafe to work with because they simply were not skilled enough to not hurt their coworkers (not every big man is Kane, after all). Ryback did not strike me as that guy. He legitimately looked to me to be frequently careless about working with people. Even if he wasn't, mocking people on Twitter about their injuries sounds immature for a 15 year old, let alone an adult who played a role in those injuries occurring.

I always find it disconcerting when two guys have two versions of the same story that are completely opposed to one another. It implies that either Ryback or Punk are being dishonest, and I have no way of knowing who, due to the fact that I have never met either of them.

I love Ryback and think he got dealt a series of bad hands when he should have been huge, but the guy does come off like kind of a dumbass a lot of the time.

I find the squashing AJ thing, as well as the $500k a year downside guarantee a little hard to believe. From what I've read elsewhere, $500k downside is pretty standard for the midcard talent.

It implies that either Ryback or Punk are being dishonest, and I have no way of knowing who, due to the fact that I have never met either of them. Yeah, the only truly obvious thing that seems to be the case is that the injuries occurred. I have an easier time believing Punk on the issue mainly because of the way that Ryback responded to the allegations. A simple statement to the effect of "While I do regret my role in CM Punk's injuries in our matches, I strongly disagree with his depiction of our backstage interactions and strongly deny his allegations that I was careless with his health. Accidents happen and when they happen in this business, injuries can happen. It is regrettable but it does not warrant his unfair representations of me in relation to those injuries" would have been far better than his actual response. Sure, that might not sound like something he would say, but he had access to some fantastic resources through his employer at the time to have helped him script a decent response that did not make him sound like a callous meathead.

So the final straw after having a bunch of frustrations (all of which understandable IMO) was that he actually believed Vince would let him *squash* AJ at Mania, which of course didn't happen. Ok buddy I'm a fan of you and all but if you believed that was going to be a thing I have some GFW gold bars I'd like you to invest in. Is it so hard to believe that Ryback was going to squash him considering Styles jobbed at Mania anyways?

About Ryback's pay...
Didn't that leaked list some years ago have Ziggler at like 540k and mind you, this was pre-Shield debut or something Ziggler? Pre-MITB cash-in? If so, I don't think that 500k is uncommon for Ryback if he says it. I can see a post-split SD utility main event Ryback at that amount.

Jericho is a proven dude, I believe they used the match to really gauge what AJ is and can be to the company. They couldn't have done that with Ryback, no offense to The Ryback but he's not Jericho. The loss was just to keep Jericho's worth built up to keep him from Local Man status since he was sticking around for a while longer and to make sure AJ didn't have too much of an ego if I had to take a guess. Regardless of the reasoning though it was far from a squash.
