I wonder if Tensai could have worked if they had just stuck with him being Albert, and implied that he got way tougher while wrestling in Japan. Not if they were going to still have him do all that...whatever the hell it was he was doing early on in that run. From everything I had heard of his Japan stint, I fully expected him to come back with a more intense energy, the kind guys like Brody and Hansen got over with in Japan. Instead, he was doing sumo mannerisms and working this weird, methodical u l t r a s l o o o o o o o o o w style.

Test? Making him Stephanie's boyfriend meant they presumably had big plans for him but he dropped down the card pretty quick after Steph and HHH hooked up.

Where was Heidenreich on the card? He didn't really do much.

They "made" him Stephanie's boyfriend because he was dating Steph at the time. But even they didn't really seem to really have big plans for him either way. Test was like 6th in the pecking order behind Austin, Rock, Foley, Big Show, and Kane, and there wasnt really a "move heaven and earth to get Test over no matter what to the point of looking desperate and obnoxious" directive like they usually do when they're behind someone.

Has anybody accomplished more in the WWE then Alberto Del Rio and have less to show for it?

Regardless of his gimmick, I don't think he would have been particularly successful as a singles act in WWE. He did get a few heavyweight title matches when he first got to Japan but he never was really great by himself there. He ended up finding his niche as the power guy in a tag team with Karl Anderson.

Regal in 2008.
None of it was WWE's fault. Regal f***ed up, got suspended, lost the biggest push of career.

Muhammad Hassan works as both a real and joke answer.

Scott Steiner. Nothing about him screamed main event and it certainly showed. Main event look, intermission wrestling style by the time we got him in 2003. Could you imagine Big Poppa Pump with 1990 Steiner Brothers moveset? He would have been main eventing for a long time to come.

Dunno if it's true or not, but I read Russo was the one who really liked Test and wanted to push him.

Where was Heidenreich on the card? He didn't really do much. He didn't really get any higher than "monster of the month" upper midcard level before dropping into the US, then tag title divisions.

I actually liked the Lord Tensai gimmick, they just needed to A) Point-blank address the fact that he was Albert (if only to counteract the douchebags chanting it), and B) Give him a reason for existing beyond squashing people. They sort of had a story thread going with him being Big Johnny's enforcer, but by then the damage had been done.
