Ok while this might be a but off topic but surely someone from California can answer this so what time does the main card start? As I'm flying into San Fransisco on the day that this takes place and while I'm really keen on seeing it live, coming off a 12 hour flight I would like to know if I'm not going to be staying up late as jet lag is going to be a real bitch. Prelims start at 3:30, main card starts at 7.

Punk is in Ronda territory for me. I want him to win, but if he loses I hope it's a "Stop it! He's already dead!"
Overeem has a shot to become the most decorated fighter in MMA history. PRIDE never die.

It'll finally mean he lived up to what everyone expected of him too. Cuz man, with a couple of those surprise KOs of the last couple years, he was lookin like a bust.

No such thing as a surprise Overeem KO. He's had a glass jaw his whole career. Although glass jaw may not be the right term seeing as he's been knocked out by some of THE hardest hitters in MMA. He's built to win, not struggle. If he has problems in the first few minutes of the fight, he's going to sleep.

I've listened to the art of wrestling podcast again, then the latest Helwani interview. I've change my stance, I want him to win not because of his abilities but because he needs this, in my opinion the lawsuit by dr Amann is f***ing his life up. And if in fact the wwe is paying for it, they don't care who wins or loses, they just want punk to keep spending money fighting it. Also allegedly he lost his closest friendship because of it...I don't know, gall is obviously the superior fighter, but as a fan I wish that life just smiled at him this once.

Well he made weight. That's good. He also refused to shake Gall's hand.

A lot of fans got worked by all the weight-cutting comments... Anthony Pettis said that Punk was already within 10 pounds prior to the weight-cut.
I'm feeling a little bit better judging by his poise/confidence and the shape that he's gotten himself in. With that said, he's at a disadvantage in literally every facet of physical competition. At one point I wouldn't have minded him taking a loss... but over time I've come to hope that he wins. He may have left the WWE on bad terms but he was one of my favourites and gave us many great moments... you have to respect the courage. The Evolution of Punk showed his great character, and all that aside I don't think it's healthy to wish a violent concussion on anybody that's being real in following their heart. With that said, I got a strange feeling we'll see Gall win either by brutal KO or a slick submission. I'd like to be wrong though.

Punk's just playing to the camera. He's there to sell the show and get as much money as possible. That doesn't work if you're shaking the guys hand.
Especially after Gall talked a load of shit about Punk for months.
They both know exactly what they're doing.
I'll definitely be watching. Honestly if Punk can make it out of the 1st round, I'd consider it a big success for him.

They've shook hands many times throughout the build-up to this fight - there is no mandate to do it every time. Now, it's close to fight time and it's time to build some hype. And even though Gall overall has been a classy kid, he's also had moments where he's mocked Punk and pro-wrestling in general. To me, I like the fact that Punk has the confidence to go for it and push buttons even at the weigh-ins. It will be very interesting, though like I said I still have to go with the Gall win just based on common sense.

Punk learned a ton from his wrestling days. He's sandbaging, putting on a show. Watch out. He's going to guillotine Gall within a minute. I'm going to party like it's 1999 and get a new CM Punk tat.

Given Conor, etc, it seems like MMA fans love to encourage that kind of machismo bullshit in their fighters, so I can hardly say it stands out any.

Well it's because Gall never really insulted him, but in the past Punk went hard at the kid, he said that his opponents were against tomato cans, that he actually wanted to bloody him, that if he missed weight and got his purse deducted it would be the most money Gall ever saw on his life, and he said on fox sports that he was gonna try to kill Mickey. Mickey took the high road and actually tried to shake his hand. Now I don't know if punk is trying to gain confidence, but in my opinion Gall never offended punk in any way that warranted not getting a hand shake. I don't know if it's his nerves or stress, but it was uncalled for.

Yeah, he's being out of line, totally, I just am sort of bristling still I guess after Conor is like "Yeah, those guys who I never would fight? I could beat them" and people kinda spin it like "Yes, brilliant mastery of words, never since PT Barnum have I seen such a fine promoter!" and it's like people kinda turn being a dickhead into something laudable. I guess it's not like Ali was a particularly gracious dude, either, but it gets grating. I won't pretend Punk's not being uncalled for, he is, but I wonder if he just thinks he's already a heel, he may as well go all out, given how many people are salivating for him to fail, anyway.

I think it's beautiful because in MMA kayfabe is alive and well. Look how effective it is with how riled up people get and how it sells so many tickets and PPVs. The art of the work is alive and well. Gall and Punk were fairly cordial to each other pretty much the entire time when it wasn't up to them to sell the PPV yet but now it's fight week and promotion is in full swing, they're not going to pat each other on the back. As soon as the fight is over I bet they'll be hugging it out like Diaz and McGregor did.

It all comes across so... pro wrestling fake though. Especially when they pull this shit out at the very last second. It's like they're a bunch of little boys who are expected to imitate all the crazy Holmes/Berbick or Tyson weigh-in scuffles they watched growing up.

Yeah, unless this turns into like Brock and a few of his opponents, where the animosity seemed pretty real even after, but a lot of them are just playing make believe for the buyrate, probably.

I get that, but neither McGregor or Ali discredited their opponents previous fights, Conor said that beating Aldo actually meant something and that his championship reign was legitimate, Ali never said that Liston or Holmes were second class fighters and actually talked bad about their paycheck. Punk crossed an uncomfortable line by mentioning Gall's salary despectively and disrespecting his record, to me that goes beyond promoting, like he's shitting on Mickey's profession and income. I don't know anything about Phil Brooks and I will never meet him in my life, and I hope the move was just promoting because it showed a lack of class. I hope that he eventually finds happiness, I'm probably wrong, but from hearing the shoot interviews about the friends he lost (Hornswoggle and allegedly Cabana) he seems to me that he's just angry at life.
