I mean I like that he's calling some of the moves that never got properly called and hyped up before, but my god how many f***ing references to old school Japanese wrestling does he need to throw out there? He's starting to remind me of when Matt Striker got super bad with the references and just became unbearable to listen to. He's not there yet, but the guy's starting to annoy me sometimes and it's getting distracting.

I actually think he's toned it down a bit over the last couple weeks. Maybe I'm just not paying close enough attention though.

It almost feels like he's trying too hard to be the anti-Cole. He really needs to tone it down a little, I think.

There are moments when I think his pop culture references are a bit much (IE, that weird thing about the iPhone 7 headphone jack) but for the most part I still loves him. He's got the perfect balance of insight and genuine excitement.

He's a dork, but he doesn't waste time trying to put anyone else down, so I find it pretty funny more than anything. It reminds me of the times JR dropped old school southern wrestling references. He does it in 100% passionate commentator mode, so it seems just as ridiculous as it is legitimate.
Matt Striker always sounds condescending when he makes references to stuff. That's the only reason I ever found him annoying.
I can see why it would bother people, but eh, Mauro screaming Japanese wrestling and hip hop references in the same breath is one of my favorite things about his commentary.

Not even close. In my youth I somehow convinced myself JR sucked and now he's gone and I don't know how I ever behaved like that. Ranallo his a treat, if he wants to quote a dumb meme once in a while I don't care, the man is all passion in his commentary.

Better to have a dude actually invested in a match than someone phoning it in and just talking about irrelevant stuff during matches.

The guy just is not good. He has no speed between Wrestlemania main event and mute so to be able to fill the silent spots he shouts some lame phrase, a reference that 3 people get or a makes a comparison that makes zero sense. Been that way since he called NJPW on AXS. That said, after hearing his replacement, I'll take Mauro easily. I crap all over how Vince has ruined guys like Cole, Graves, JBL and others but if anyone could stand to take a few pointers from him it would be Mauro. If he would listen to Vince and slow the hell down, he could be a great announcer.

SDLive Mauro is "That 46 year old creeper who leans on the wall at the club", but CWC Mauro is great.

He does little things here and there that I find slightly irritating, but it's not just a continuous stream of incessant bullshit like it is with Michael Cole.

He's great, we just need the right partner for him to have chemistry with.
We all love JR and Jesse Ventura here, but together they were unbearably bad.
We talk about the irritations of Striker in the three man booth with Cole and Lawler, but forget that he and Todd Philips were stellar.
Unless you're Joey Styles or Gordon Solie or maybe one or two others, you need the right partner. That's why we all remember Cole-JBL one-on-one together in 2006 as being great, but once they added a third voice to their chemistry, it was thrown off.
How much better are Corey Graves and Tom Philips together than absolutely any other pairing those two have had?
Just something to keep in mind.

I actually paused Backlash during the main event when Dean hit that wheelbarrow facebuster counter to rant about his call, so I'll paraphrase here (because I apparently still need to vent):
Calling a fireman's carry neckbreaker the Ushigoroshi is cool by me for now. He calls it in association with AJ Styles, who started using it in NJPW, and he adopted it from Hirooki Goto. If he called Tye Dillinger's finisher the Ushigoroshi, I'd be pissed off, since that's not its name when he uses it. With the wheelbarrow facebuster, if you're going to use a non-WWE reference to call it, please call it the Hook and Ladder. That's what he called it as Jon Moxley, so it would make sense to keep name continuity. If not that?
Call it the Glam Slam. Mention that it was made famous in WWE by Beth Phoenix. So what if it's attributing the move to a woman? It's attributing it to one whose calling card was her power, and who was a multiple-time champion. Emphasize that it's a move that can win titles. Play up its history, get people interested in checking out Beth on the Network. Don't put over Ryusuke Taguchi and his ass (and his ass, and his ass). I know I'm biased here, I will absolutely admit that, but I think in this case it makes sense to promote that if you're going to reference it as another wrestler's move. We get that you used to work NJPW, Mauro, but that can't be your only reference base for stuff like this.

In what sense are you biased? Did he miscall one of your moves?

In what sense are you biased? Did he miscall one of your moves? I would be pissed off, since there's an established name for Dillinger's finisher (the Tye-Breaker), and if it was called another name when he used it for seemingly no other reason than Japan cred, it would be a disservice to the talent. I'm biased because I'm a huge Beth Phoenix mark, and have been for years, so this particular case got me in the fandom. I might not be so upset if it were another wrestler who had popularized the move.

I don't like him, but I've learned to tune him out. The "Mama Mia!" thing is abysmal.
