I would take a commentary team of Mauro, David Otunga, and Corey Graves.
Sorry, Byron. You're the odd man out. The other two can just f*** off and leave.
Even though a number of people are annoyed by his referencing NJPW and other Japanese promotions, I find it fresh. Also, I'm a history buff, and when he talks about the history of these moves, it makes me all tingly for a moment.

I don't like him, but I've learned to tune him out. The "Mama Mia!" thing is abysmal. Pleeeeease, tell me your secret. I can tune out everyone else, but his fake-ass 70s radio voice is like a drill into my brain. Michael Cole trained me to focus REALLY hard on the match instead of focusing on commentary. Usually I zone in on that and I don't really hear the commentary. So I just use that on Ranallo. If that doesn't work, there's always that sweet mute button.

Ranollo is still that dude and the best commentator in wrestling by like a million miles. I think his hip-hop references are great and charming.

He's ok. Thanks to him I finally know how to pronounce uranage. Man, I thought it was pronounced like "Orangutan" for years (I.E You-ran-je). I like him anyway. Some of his pop culture references are kinda cringeworthy, but it's in an endearing way. Love the name dropping Japanese wrestlers though, like his "SHADES OF MINORU SUZUKI" whenever Kendrick used the Saka Otoshi before the bully choke.

I will say though, the "MAMMA MIA" can be cringeworthy at times. Still a solid 9.5/10 though.

He's the most annoying person to scream nonsense into a mic since Joey Styles. He's just Joey Styles. That isn't a compliment.

He needs to dial it back some. There's a difference between enthusiasm and shouting everything you say.

Enthusiasm is good but sometimes it's just too much, and it ends up seeming forced and contrived. I like his Smackdown delivery a bit better.

Overall, I love Mauro Ranallo. His commentary brings a passion and insight that you don't usually see in modern WWE, and he feels like a newer version of Mike Tenay. I mean that as a compliment. He just occasionally crosses into cringeworthy territory. My rant notwithstanding, he's my favorite commentator in the current WWE lineup. He's hyper-Tenay...sometimes he needs to just sit back and let things happen. This isn't radio, I can see what's going on. You don't need to fill every second with noise. Although I can't really speak on his work in TNA, I did like his work on WCW. Schiavone/Heenan/Tenay was one of my favorite combos. Mauro is far superior in my eyes though. He doesn't just say things second-hand, Mauro is truly a world traveler and has been around the best in whatever event he is calling. His work in Pride is my favorite, the combo of the unique Japanese crowds and his announcing made it much more dramatic.

Yes. Its a small thing, but his inability/unwillingness to pronounce the'e' in 'WWE' really grinds my gears. AJ freakin' Styles finally wins the title and all I heard was that he'd finally become "WW champion".....
I really need to stop over analysing this....

LIKE A NEEDLESS POP CULTURE REFERENCE, MAURO RANALLO ANNOYS ME!!!
I never thought I'd see the day where Michael Cole was far and away the best play-by-play man in WWE, but here we are.

He's great, we just need the right partner for him to have chemistry with. We all love JR and Jesse Ventura here, but together they were unbearably bad. We talk about the irritations of Striker in the three man booth with Cole and Lawler, but forget that he and Todd Philips were stellar. Unless you're Joey Styles or Gordon Solie or maybe one or two others, you need the right partner. That's why we all remember Cole-JBL one-on-one together in 2006 as being great, but once they added a third voice to their chemistry, it was thrown off. How much better are Corey Graves and Tom Philips together than absolutely any other pairing those two have had? Just something to keep in mind. Example, Gorilla and Hayes were rough, Gorilla and Jesse fun ad hell and flowed.

There nothing wrong with topical references, Mauro has been awesome. Cole may be occasionally wonky with the shilling but Mauro has been bringing it. Making pop references is not a good argument against him.

Mauro is one of my favorite dudes in WWE right now. Guy's the best commentator they've had since JR as far as I'm concerned. He's enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and has a wonderful "1940's radio announcer" voice.

I mostly find him obnoxious - moreso on SmackDown, on the CWC he's fine - but he's still one of the best they've got.
