I love the dude, but yeah his Japanese references are stupid.
Like, if Natalya's putting on a sharpshooter it's about the fact that she's a Hart. I don't need you to start talking about Choshu. It's pointless, it doesn't fit the story and it comes across as a guy desperate to show off how much he knows.

I can take his Japanese references. I really appreciate those to be honest. I want to know where a move came from, what it's really called, and who invented it. He's like a commentator and teacher in one.
It's his shoe-horned in pop culture references that bug me.

I feel like he does a bit too much of the timely references. I assume he scans newspaper headlines before every show and then figures out ways to incorporate it into his commentary. That's alright, but you don't need to include every headline.
Also, he needs to change up the tone of his voice a bit.

JR: "BY GAWD, KING, IT'S MAURO RANALLO!"
Mauro: "MAMA MIA! IT'S GOOD OL' JR! IT'S #LIT IN HERE!"
JR: "THAT WAS ONE SLOBBERKNOCKER OF A FORCED POP CULTURE REFERENCE, KING!"
King: *in Hyena pitch* "AHHHH!"
Mauro: "MAMA MIA! I CAN'T EVEN!"
Cole: "Ohhhhhhhh Mmmmmyyyyy!"
Bryon: "Wow."

Not a single complaint.
I turn the volume up for him. I have to periodically put it on mute for Cole.

Anybody figure out how long it takes the average FAN poster to get sick of someone on screen?

CWC Mauro is like a excited father cheering his son during a hockey game and SD Live Mauro is like the same excited father drunk in the bar post hockey game.

Nah. Not after 15 years of Michael Cole. Just nah. Exactly, I've always liked Mauro, so when I heard he was on board, I was excited. Glad they let him keep a side gig on Inside MMA as well, he was a great MMA announcer.

He definitely says a lot of cringe-worthy shit - MAMMA MIA! - but the guy knows his stuff and his excitement for the product is beyond anyone else currently.

Overall, I love Mauro Ranallo. His commentary brings a passion and insight that you don't usually see in modern WWE, and he feels like a newer version of Mike Tenay. I mean that as a compliment. He just occasionally crosses into cringeworthy territory. My rant notwithstanding, he's my favorite commentator in the current WWE lineup.

I don't like him, but I've learned to tune him out. The "Mama Mia!" thing is abysmal. Pleeeeease, tell me your secret. I can tune out everyone else, but his fake-ass 70s radio voice is like a drill into my brain.

He's hyper-Tenay...sometimes he needs to just sit back and let things happen. This isn't radio, I can see what's going on. You don't need to fill every second with noise.

He's ok, I don't find him as annoying as Matt Striker's "I'm marking out bro!".

Anybody figure out how long it takes the average FAN poster to get sick of someone on screen? In this instance he's been on Smackdown for 9 months so I say a good 9 months or so before where a FAN poster is sick of someone onscreen. Holy shit that is the same time frame for Balor post Takeover Brooklyn 1 to a little after Dallas or around that. And Ziggler to the end of his 2015 run to now.

In WWE, Striker usually came off as weirdly condescending about the references he was dropping, and would always awkwardly cram them, along with bizarre nicknames, in without much flow or like they ever belonged. Mauro's always feel like they're meant to put over the wrestlers while also paying respects to wrestling's history, and it comes off respectfully enough. And I know it's not exactly a counterpoint to say "but look at the others", but goddamn do I enjoy when a wrestling product acknowledges how far wrestling has come along and how it's built on top of its past, and the most we used to get was when New Day started bringing out Francesca and JBL just yelled "CHIEF JAY STRONGBOW" over and f***ing over.
I think he does need to find his groove, and I wonder how much of it is the guidance of whoever's giving him his cues on Smackdown versus the CWC where he definitely comes off better, but personally, he's brought on the very first time in years that I don't want to mute the commentary, and that alone is a huge step in the right direction.

I'm enjoying him a lot so far. He's nowhere as smarmy as Cole, and he's in a nice middle ground between the more traditional, measured announcing style you'd hear from a Lance Russel or Gordon Solie and the more hyped style of a Jim Ross.

I love how excited and invested he seems. It's really refreshing. It's the super awkward "Kim Kardashian, Taylor Swift, iPhone 7 headphone jack" pop culture references that are the pits though and he needs to stop it immediately. It's like he looks to see what's trending on twitter that day and finds a way to squeeze it in. The WWE probably love him for it now that I think of it...
