This week's WALKING DEAD..... {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Andrea done got bit. {Spoiler}It was coming eventually in some capacity. Being the only survivor of the original group left outside of Rick and Carl always meant her days were numbered. It's logic that's applied so far to both the book and the TV series.

And these tendencies are made worse because now the characters can't be limited to the comic page, but are also found on TV, in movies, in video games Man, it's been that way for 80+ years now, this isn't a new phenomenon. The 1930s-60s didn't have quite as many of them going all at once, but between theatrical films, serials, animated shorts, television and radio, there was almost always at least one or two going at any given time. Once the mid-60s hit, all bets were off and they were all over television and Saturday morning cartoons. They just weren't being bandied about as the hot "in" thing, with few exceptions. Thing is, everyone wants to complain that comics shouldn't be so superhero focused, but they don't go out and buy the non-superhero stuff. They've been trying to throw every genre possible up there - Marvel & DC as well as other companies - since the first superhero golden age started dying down and none of it sticks. Top creators, top artists and writers, top storytelling, and it just doesn't sell like superheroes. Since the direct market opened up in the early 80s, we've seen Marvel and DC hand over shelf space to the biggest writers and artists to do their own thing with imprints like Epic, Vertigo, etc., and while some of the titles did okay, there just never has been enough there to do more. Walking Dead became a major hit. So did Saga, but they're anomalies. There's always one or two non-superhero titles going that do okay, and that seems to be the limit for the average, casual buyer. Bone, Strangers in Paradise, Sandman, Cerebus...they did respectable numbers, but not superhero numbers, no matter how much better they were storywise. Top line humor books can do okay, but they have a market of parents/grandparents helping out there, not wanting to get their kids the violent superhero stuff. And I think the non-superhero stuff right now isn't helping itself. There's a massive glut of it and it proves difficult for a casual to figure out which ones are the ones for them. There's literally every genre conceivable out there right now. It's not like the hero stuff is the only things on the shelf anymore, the non-spandex stuff just doesn't have a big enough willing market base to turn itself into something bigger.

Yeah, I don't get the complaints of "too many superhero books" as though that's something that comic book companies have to fix.
One of the biggest series out right now is a zombie horror series. I'm reading an ocean exploration miniseries from Kaboom called The Deep. I own two sci-i comic books based on Harlan Ellison scripts. There are books out there, and an easy solution to wanting more said books of different genres to be written is just to buy them. More demand will mean more supply, the only reason American comic shops are so cape centric is because they sell the most.

It's funny in hindsight, because Cap's Kooky Quartet is now looked back on pretty fondly.

So basically they're going to start telling stories centered around their iconic characters that are disconnected from Earth SJW? Sounds great, until they get bored and do another Ultimatum type of crap event in that universe, too.

I don't think re-re-numbering is any better than relaunching a line with new #1s. I'd rather DC and Marvel put out more books with clear beginnings, middles, and ends. Some characters and stories simply don't need any more than 6, 12, 24, 48, 60, 75, or 100 issues to be complete. Spider-Man is more popular than Sandman, but people seem to be much more fond of Sandman #1-#75 than, say, Amazing Spider-Man #307-#382.

I assume that's what it means. You're the only person I've seen suggesting that. Most are assuming it's just going to mean the older characters are returning alongside the newer ones I made the assumption for a couple reasons. First, the current books can keep the new numbering while they can bring the Legacy characters back at the original numbers. Secondly, Secret Empire doesn't seem like a reality-altering event, so I don't know how else they'll have a Bruce Banner Hulk book and a non-Hydra Steve Rogers book unless it's a separate universe.

I assume that Steve will be on one long redemption trip and away from being Cap.

www.bleedingcool.com/2017/03/06/alex-de-campi-slates-comics-industry-not-kids/Some of my first comics included Jurgens' Superman, X-Men #1, a reprint of Claremont-era X-Men that was about Storm and Dracula, and even Spawn. But that was a time when comics were a big deal for children. I have no idea if comics are important to today's children. I would guess that they aren't, but maybe that's why Alex de Campi sees books 'for children' aimed at 20-somethings, because comic culture has contracted.

*sees Superman / Action #975 spoiler online* ........... THAT'S IT?Oh good grief. One the one hand, I guess I was asking for real awfulness (albeit maybe handled a little better now) if it had been who I thought it'd be, but on the other hand.....this seems horribly underwhelming. {Spoiler}Though it's their first appearance since New 52 kicked in, I believe... which means Rebirth is still about bringing back old things we thought were long gone.... That's not so bad?
