I've noticed quite a few fans of mankind's greatest achievement, Red Dwarf, post on these here boards. At work today, my mind kept going back to the sheer majesty of one Arnold Judas Rimmer. Despite him being the biggest git in the universe, I somehow find myself pulling for the poor hologram. Therefore, I propose this thread, where we recount our favorite Rimmer adventures, humiliations, quotes, etc. SO grab a coffee or a beer, whatever'syourpoison, and let's start this week's morale meeting....
KRYTEN: But the entire ship is running on emergency battery power only. With the oxygen recycler and minimal heating and lighting, I estimate that Lister and the Cat have approximately two months left. Without your drain on the power, they might last six. I'm sorry, Sir.
RIMMER: Sorry? Why are you sorry?
KRYTEN: Well, Space Corps Directive 195 clearly states that in an emergency power situation, a hologrammatic crewmember must lay down his life in order that the living crewmembers might survive.
RIMMER: Yes, but Rimmer Directive 271 states just as clearly, "No chance, you metal bastard."
CAT: Come on, man, you gotta sacrifice your life! I'm not asking you to do anything *I* wouldn't do!
RIMMER: YOU? You'd sacrifice your life for the good of the crew?
CAT: No, I'd sacrifice YOUR life for the good of the crew.

Sorry, I watch too much Red Dwarf and love Chris Barrie in an unhealthy way.

I'm a Red Dwarf mark and I always appreciated Rimmer, cause I always seem to pull for the underdog. He never got a break, I tells ya.
One of his few triumphs was when he was on a hologram ship and hooked up with a female holo. "Sex with you is like a chinese meal. The portions are small *Rimmer looks disappointed* but there are so many of them *Rimmer looks happy*."
And I must admit I loved Lister's rib on Rimmer's selfchosen nickname:
Rimmer: "Call me Ace." Lister: "Ace?" Rimmer: "It was my nickname at school." Lister: "No way." Rimmer: "It was. It's just that noone knew about it." Lister: "Maybe Ace Hole."
Yeah, that's not accurately transcribe, but it's the jist of it. THE JIST, I SAID!!!
Smeg!

Ah yes, I discovered the greatness of Red Dwarf years ago, and have been a fan ever since. Very good stuff.

i enjoy rimmer....i haven't seen the episode in a while, but i remember one where there was a rimmer song....it was all trippy and such. it was pretty gnarly and tubular. i enjoyed that song.
also, before i got into the show too much, i always thought the h on his head stood for hotdog....don't ask me why.
