Don't want to start rumors, or even suggest this is the case, but I wonder if they ended up running into some severe financial issues due to the rapid rise in popularity How do you mean, exactly? Usually, rise in popularity = more money coming in, while decrease in popularity = potential severe financial issues. Rise in popularity meaning you overestimate how much you can spend.

Really given the rumors of why they canceled Rise of... and that they have no tickets on sale for any future shows, I am guessing they are done as a regular entity. Might get lucky and have a show every few months but I'd be shocked to see them running monthly again. It's a shame too because they were really helping to bring back the Texas indie scene. There is a lot of great talent but outside of VIP in Dallas there is no one that has a good mix of local and national, big names and small, that WC did.

Rise in popularity meaning you overestimate how much you can spend. I mean... I was also thinking that clip from The Office (US) where an accountant explains a fixed cost model vs. a variable cost model would be relevant. “As you sell more paper and your company grows, so will your costs. For example — deliveryman, healthcare, business expansion … At these prices, the more paper you sell, the less money you’ll make.” Just plug in wrestling terms and this could apply to plenty of indie promotions. Hopefully not WrestleCircus, but the dead silence from them for more than a week after the cancellation announcement isn't a good sign.

Maybe VIP Will grow bigger and fill the void. Went to their 1 year anniversary show 2 years ago. Well run show with a great mix of local talent and bigger Indy names.

ECW's expansion took on the cost of renting major venues, paying for television time, having to upgrade production at their own expense to suit their television partner's requirements, paying for advertising all over the country, fronting the money to put PPVs on the air before they were paid for previous shows, signing guys to big contracts in an attempt to get them to not leave for WWF/WCW. Independent wrestling is a completely different world. You just budget your show based on what the attendance is going to be. If you go over that dollar amount, you fail at math, and thus fail at promoting.

You just budget your show based on what the attendance is going to be. If you go over that dollar amount, you fail at math, and thus fail at promoting. It isn't quite that simplified though. A decent indie still has to look at all sorts of factors. Are they using a particular facility for all their shows, are they holding shows at various places? Either way, those need to be nailed down in advance, and most don't wait until you're done with your show to hand them the rent money. Then there's insurance (required in most places) and advertising, which you have to factor out and pay for in advance before ever opening the doors. Got some sponsorships? You sure they're going to come through next month? Anything set aside for possible charges by the rented building that were unforseen? If you're working an American Legion hall, ceiling tiles, lights and chairs occasionally get busted up and that's coming out of your pocket, not the building owner's. How about that semi-big name you're bringing in, what happens if they arrive and demand more before the show starts? It happens. 2-4 guys no-show, you got someone paid on the side in waiting or just going to hope a call to some local guy 30 minutes before bell-time will work out? The biggest issue with this is that you can't budget based on the attendance, because you don't know what the attendance is going to be until the show starts. Say you've done maybe a show every two months for a year and they draw around 600 every time. So you budget your next show accordingly. And then a bad thunderstorm hits that day and half your crowd decided they didn't want to be in that mess and you suddenly have a crowd of 250-300 people.

Yeah more I hear, the more it sounds like Wrestlecircus had a plan, and due to positive feedback of their product, deviated from their plan. And as Madison said, a lot of things go into why certain things don't work out.

Of course, you could sell the tickets, cancel the event, and keep the money. Still waiting on my refund close to two weeks after the fact.

Maybe some people still want to say “give them a break, man!”?

Maybe some people still want to say “give them a break, man!”? I was willing to what with the rumored reason for the cancellation and then Thanksgiving but I'm done. I have seen some people claim they got a refund or at least a reply about getting one but to go this long without so much as a follow-up post or something for those of us that got nothing is bullshit.

Same, really, and with great reluctance. I’ll put it this way, there’s a promotion in England where one of the owners is known to have bipolar and as a result, they’re unable to cope with surroundings and being unable to go into London for shows. But the key thing being that if they’re unable to attend or an event can’t happen, they let people know as soon as because honesty is important on both sides. So that they don’t feel like they’re leaving them adrift but for fans to be aware stuff like this can happen. I’m not going call them super shady here and nobody here’s saying that but it’s suspicious that they still haven’t said anything.

The most disappointing thing if WC folds is that I won't have the emotes that you get when you subscribe on Twitch.
