To this day this STILL gets me hyped watching it. He deserved it so much and it was against Orton was well. Man, Henry was so dope. What's also great is that he had a 3 month run with the title. He even beaten Orton in HIAC. The whole transition of him losing it revolved around Bryan finally getting over and becoming champion and, for all the crap he gets, Big Show who was pulling out some of the best work of his career. Even AJ was involved heavily in this feud. Also Henry stayed in the title picture from that point on until WM season 2012. Remember? He was in those great Punk matches. Overall, this was Henry at his best storyline and in-ring-wise. He was amazing.
Loved it.

One of my favorite promos and "MARK HENRY IS THE WORLD CHAMPION!" is one of my favorite Cole calls.

Henry is one of the last of a dying breed. Wrestlers who actually look imposing. I'll miss his kind.

Looking at his career, you never would've expected him as a credible World Champion. Then, when he became one, he shut everyone up before they could even complain with a single promo. It was a really impressive turnaround.

I haven't watched that since it happened and it reminded me exactly why Henry was my favorite guy on the roster for awhile.

Loved this, wish it lasted longer. For me, Hall of Pain Henry was up there with Vader in his prime -- an utterly badass superheavyweight destroyer with no f***s to be given. And for weathering the storm of all the crap Vince threw at him over the years, he damn well deserved the reign.
I seem to recall that after years of lurking, my first post on these forums was in a thread about wrestling-related conversations with Cleverbot, giving Cleverbot's responses to Henry hurling that poor audio technician into the dark void of infinity. Good times.

My favorite thing in wrestling is when guys that are in the doldrums finally find an act that sticks, if Mark Henry gets in the hall of fame it would be entirely because of this run, I really don't care about anything else he's ever done. It's just too bad this came so late and lasted such a short while.

"Hall of Pain"-era Mark Henry was one of the best and most believable heels in years because he was booked to back up all of his shit talk and he looked like a monster.
The thing about Henry, too, is that the guy became a helluva promo. The dude was bland as anything and grew into one of the better talkers in the company.
It's hard not to like the guy.

In hindsight, Orton winning the title from Christian was the right move. Henry beating Christian clean would have been a given and wouldn't have seen like a big deal. But him beating Orton (who was a step or 2 below Cena as far as losing is concerned) clean as a sheet was a HUGE deal and made him look like a damn beast...
LOVED this run. Even bought a Hall of Pain shirt.

I did think it was weird that they transitioned it from him to Big Show to Bryan in one night since he was injured, but then he never missed any time at all really. Also, the match in which he lost it to Big Show was f***ing horribly booked.

It gave us one of my favourite moments in WWE history, Henry running down heel Michael Cole on commentary. Was nice to hear Cole get put in his place.

God I loved this match and that entire Hall of Pain run. Henry just shaking his head all "nah mate" and shrugging off the RKO is one of my favourite character spots ever, no joke.
He's one of the only guys to take the "Okay I know he's been a joke but really, he's a MONSTER now!" crap and make it work. It's a pity he got hurt (I believe that was why he dropped the title when he did?) cos I'd have loved to see him hold it til Mania and defend against Bryan.
Also, when Henry shaved his head, I don't know why but the aura was just gone for me. It's like Big Show- 2002-06 buzzcut Big Show was a way more intimidating dude.

The build up of "Hall of Pain" Henry was great. It blended storyline and reality perfectly. and Randy Orton deserves special praise for making Mark look like an absolute beast losing to him clean not once but twice.

I hadn't seen a monster heel with his aura since Earthquake squashed Hogan in the spring of 1990. Just a big, nasty, unstoppable force of nature.

That was a legitimately shocking moment, as Orton was pretty untouchable around that time.
