Yeah, I think that was the best I've heard JR on the NJPW shows. Too often you can tell he is taken out of a match by how old they are or by how many he's called in that session but he was on point tonight. Also, maybe just a me thing, but I thought they had a real good story with the build. I know that a lot hated that they started slow but to me that seemed like a key to the whole thing. These two both started thinking they could get the upper hand and take it home easily, they took the other seriously but not really a threat. As it wore on they realized it wouldn't be as easy and ratcheted up the strikes and speed to take the other down. Then that morphed into them thinking the other guy is as good as they are taking it up another notch. Finally it became, "this guy may just be better than me" and they went into survival mode where it took twisting, leaping Tombstone and a 4th Rainmaker for Okada to make it out. They wanted it so that at the end you were left as drained emotionally as they were physically. A good relief over a "Holy shit" thriller end. People who complained about the beginning must've not have seen Ric Flair. He made a living off spending the first half of a match stalling Not to mention Randy Savage, the king of stalling and doing his signature point from the outside. But once he got going you couldn't stop watching him.

I just finished it.
I definitely enjoyed it, but it definitely wasn't the same match for me that it is for a lot of people.
Some have complained about the slow start, but I loved that.
I suppose my problem is one that I have with a lot of matches now - the big moves and/or crazy bumps leading to only near falls bit has been done so much that I don't think of them as near falls. I figure in advance that it will only be a two and it has as much drama for me as someone dropping down for a cover after a simple shoulder tackle in the opening minute.
Also, all the crazy head and neck drops just make me uncomfortable.
I know it sounds like I'm dogging the match. I don't mean to focus on the negatives.
But for me, it wasn't the best New Japan match I've seen on AXS, let alone the best match I've ever seen.

Tonight AXS is showing the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Title match and the IC Title match. So far Tanga Roa has been bleeped 8 times.
Make that 12. "Eat shit" was fine though.

Throw in Makabe and we'd be dead of alcohol poisoning. As an aside, f*** Yano. This Naito/Tanahashi match is great. Love the old-school "ref has to untangle the legs" bit.
