Because the cruisweight division is doing so well as its own separate entity.
WWE's thinking seems to be as follows: flood the market, content for the network, regardless of quality.

Boss-looking title.
If I was KO, I'd get dual citizenship in the UK, enter and win the tournament, and unify the titles, keeping this one.

So with this going on the network in January, I assume no women's tournament that was rumored

The timing may have forced their hands but I do remember several years ago that there was talks of opening a developmental system in the UK. This was years before NXT came along. Yeah I remember there were talks of having multiple developmental leagues including one in Japan. Meanwhile in the homes of Mark Andrews, Marty Scurll, Will Ospreay and Zack Sabre Jr: Well Zack was already offered a contract and turned them down so I doubt he really cares. also Scrull has an RoH contract and Mark Andrews is in TNA and can't compete for the WWE. I think Osprey also has an RoH contract.

I'm pretty sure the main reason Sabre turned them down was he'd have to move too.

Not sure about the merits of this concept, but I must say I absolutely love that belt

This really does warrant keeping an eye on. It's hard to fault WWE for wanting to get involved in what's a very hot scene right now, but simultaneously it's very difficult to trust WWE to do this without somehow doing major damage to some of the companies that have led the charge in reinvigorating the UK scene.

I only know Pete Dunne from the highlights video from the CWC Qualifier match against Gallagher. He stood out to me, and the nickname of "Bruiserweight" is catchy and was very apt He also won the Progress World Championship at their last show, and is the head of the stable British Strong Style with Tyler Bate and Trent Severn, who are both Progress and Chikara Tag Champs. Ironically, just last week they made a promo saying that the only use of these belts would be a prop for them to sign WWE or NJPW contracts on. Yeah it was posted in the Progress thread, well I guess they weren't lying. Also if these guys are signed to full WWE gigs, this would hurt Progress significantly. Hopefully they are working with Progress to hurt WCPW/WoS and not just trying to crush the entire British wrestling scene, but this is Vince we are talking about.

They are doing waaayyyyy too much. There are already way too many belts and shows and at a time where the overall product is nowhere near as popular as it used to be expanding even more seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

Very interesting. Really like the belt design, too. Don't feel it's overcrowding when this is intented to be territory specific, not on Raw and Smackdown every week.

Which is already oversaturated with stuff. PPVs every two weeks. NXT shows. 205. Now this thing. All with their own storylines and belts. Network subs havent really increased. If anything they've gone down with all of this content just being thrown at your face.

Holy shit Chris Tyler?? I've worked that kid a few times and he's amazing. He carried me to some good matches. Hope he does well. My briefest of brief forays into training was alongside Chris Tyler. He can't have been more that 16/17 at the time and he was already miles ahead of anyone else involved in the promotion (EAW). Must be in his early twenties now I'm guessing so prime age to hit the big time.

Just to screw with everyone, they should decide to put the belt on Martin Stone.

If anything they've gone down with all of this content just being thrown at your face. And that could be as simple as trying to get more UK subscriptions. The nice thing about on demand services is you don't have to watch things you don't want to watch. But you want to have a lot of content there to appeal to a diverse amount of people. I don't think anyone would sit around complaining that netflix or hulu have to much content.

At this rate we won't be able to keep track in 2017 anymore Can't wait for the WWE Indian Championship, the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships and the WWE Twerking Championship

Because the cruisweight division is doing so well as its own separate entity. WWE's thinking seems to be as follows: flood the market, content for the network, regardless of quality. To be fair, it's doing a bit better with 205 live as they flush out more of the competitors (which again IMO was a huge reason for the struggles early) As for this announcement? Great on WWE especially after what ICW did with their Fear and Loathing show at the Hydro (it's online for anybody who wants to check it out. Absolutely awesome show). Trent Seven, Wolfgang, and Pete Dunne are 3 of the hottest names in the UK and pretty much headline everywhere they go... Dunne and Seven have also been on WWE's radar (Dunne getting a CWC qualifier match while Seven was at a recent tryout). I'm guessing had he been healthy Mark Haskins would have been in the tournament, as would potentially Jimmy Havoc but he just came back from injury and probably wouldn't pass a physical. Disappointed that they didn't sign Joe Hendry for this
