But it'll be a network product. Which is already oversaturated with stuff. PPVs every two weeks. NXT shows. 205. Now this thing. All with their own storylines and belts. Network subs havent really increased. If anything they've gone down with all of this content just being thrown at your face. And that could be as simple as trying to get more UK subscriptions. The nice thing about on demand services is you don't have to watch things you don't want to watch. But you want to have a lot of content there to appeal to a diverse amount of people. I don't think anyone would sit around complaining that netflix or hulu have to much content. Yeah, this is the least of the concerns I have and probably the reason they're doing it. Heck, I wouldn't be shocked if the long term goal isn't having everything on the Network and cutting out the middle man of cable. Nobody goes "Man, Netflix has Sense8, Daredevil AND House of Cards?! There's too much content that I must watch and follow when I don't have to watch any of them!"

Because the cruisweight division is doing so well as its own separate entity. WWE's thinking seems to be as follows: flood the market, content for the network, regardless of quality. To be fair, it's doing a bit better with 205 live as they flush out more of the competitors (which again IMO was a huge reason for the struggles early) As for this announcement? Great on WWE especially after what ICW did with their Fear and Loathing show at the Hydro (it's online for anybody who wants to check it out. Absolutely awesome show). Trent Seven, Wolfgang, and Pete Dunne are 3 of the hottest names in the UK and pretty much headline everywhere they go... Dunne and Seven have also been on WWE's radar (Dunne getting a CWC qualifier match while Seven was at a recent tryout). I'm guessing had he been healthy Mark Haskins would have been in the tournament, as would potentially Jimmy Havoc but he just came back from injury and probably wouldn't pass a physical. Disappointed that they didn't sign Joe Hendry for this WhatCulture may not be WWE in terms of money but considering how much they push him, they'll probably move heaven and Earth to keep the guy away from WWE. He lives nearby so the truck of money shouldn't take long to reach him.

When I read the title of this thread, I thought "oh, ok, so those rumours were true then, meh".
Then I saw the belt. Then I saw that Nigel McGuinness is commentating. Then I suddenly turned from "meh", to "YES PLEASE GIVE ME NOW".
Then I remembered it might have something to do with the potential World of Sport comeback, and how WWE's approach might (intentionally) lead to diminished competition, or hoarding of talent away from other promotions just so they don't get shut out of the UK market, and that's something I'm not terribly keen on potentially happening. Having said that, it might be a bit early to be conspiracy-theorying at this point, so maybe we can watch how that goes over time.
I don't know how well a potential show dedicated to this would do, I've not been following the cruiserweights (though I've read here that they're not doing very well with audiences), but how much WWE TV can viewers tolerate? More choice is good, then you get to pick and choose the bits of WWE you're interested in, but will it spread the audience too thin, or cause (even more) fatigue? Again, maybe too early to tell, but if this turns out to be good then it'd be a shame to see it nosedive and get scrapped if WWE realises there's less of a threat than they thought.
I don't know who any of the wrestlers are that are going to be involved, personally I'd like to see Drew McIntyre/Galloway back, maybe Magnus, Paul Burchill, and why the hell didn't they do this while Barrett was still there?!* I'll give the new guys a shot, maybe I'll get to like them anyway, but some favourites and familiar faces would've been a nice hook to pull me in.
Presumably this will have heavy involvement from Regal, which is probably a pretty damn good start for running a British-based brand. Can't go wrong with him, so no worries on that front.
So in summary, love the belt, looking forward to McGuinness commentating, cautiously optimistic but may become bored without a couple of solid known WWE names to build around. Hope they do it justice.
*(I'm guessing there are too few current/recent women to include, but Layla, Katie Burchill and Paige could make a good start to build some new British women around?)

Would be cool to let the UK champ a match on Night of the Champions. I see people complaining about NOT ANOTHER BELT!!! (mostly on facebook). But it isn't yet another belt. It is a title in its own entity, not like it is going to be defended of RAW and Smackdown every week and be hot potato'd between Ziggler and Miz. It will not effect the US WWE Universe in the slightest save for giving some guys so exposure in the USA on special events and UK tours. With possibility of joining main roster if they get enough buzz. How do you know this to be true? When the CWC was announced, we didn't know it was going to lead to a Raw Cruiserweight division. Likewise, some of these guys might be flown in to Raw or Smackdown to fight over this title. We don't know yet.

I wonder if this is why Neville has disappeared from TV. I forgot he exists, but sure, he'd be a name on my list of "people I'm at least somewhat familiar with", so I wouldn't be opposed to seeing him show up on a UK-branded show.

Well I guess they really are spooked by ITV
That's a good sign IMO. It means they think ITV will take wrestling seriously.

I can't wait for the WWE Tuvalu Championship, WWE The City of Lubbock Texas Championship, and the WWE And The People with the Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis, Lewandowsky-Lutz Dysplasia genetic condition Championship.

I understand the sentiment about the number of belts, but I think it is fine for now given the number of hours they need to provide which is likely the heart of the problem. I do not think either brand can provide two or three hours of weekly content without having their own divisions which is why we have two world titles, two tag team titles, and two women's titles. Each show has a midcard title which is fine so lower card guys can have something to fight for. I am fine having a CW Title as I like watching them and to break up the minutia that is RAW. The problem is really the number of hours they are providing and the lack of talent depth right now. They aren't changing the number of hours because they are getting paid good money to make it. They should really just be calling guys up sooner from NXT and finding ways to add character depth to existing guys who have talent (like Apollo Crews) but haven't really gotten going yet so that these titles can have really good guys fighting for them.

So with this going on the network in January, I assume no women's tournament that was rumored The latest plan is for that to start in February.

I'm going to miss Nigel in ROH. His character - stressed out single dad who's perpetually seconds away from losing his shit - has been a highlight for me.

I hate this. All the great, amazing UK indy stuff that's popped up over the past couple of years, Trips is gonna f***ing snuff it out, because all that talent is gonna want to be part of "WWEUK".
