Like andrew8798 said, I'll miss it for older movies. The big movies and TV shows are populated by trolls, but classic movies and TV shows you can get good discussions going. There are classic movie forums out there with an "OFFICIAL *THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES* THREAD" and you got to wade through different comments and questions to find some discussion. I prefer a place with a concentration toward a single film.

I used to feel bad when I would go to an actor's page and they would have no message posts Same here.

A friend of mine saw Ghostbusters and liked it, excitedly joined without knowing its reputation, and was accused of being a Sony employee. Yeah, it's a bucket of piss. Anything, good or bad, will migrate elsewhere. It was the same thing when Live Free or Die Hard was out. People would accuse someone for working for Fox because it was an unpopular opinion. While that movie was given praise, a lot of movie fans disliked it. I had learned to stand my ground against the regulars on the Ghostbusters 2016 board. I wonder if why IMDB is shutting down its message board is the same reason why OkCupid shut down its forums. Of course, that one was filled with trolls and sock accounts. Hell, I am sure that a lot of people who frequented the forums on that site had fake accounts.

"We have concluded that IMDb's message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience" The only thing about that assessment I disagree with is the notion that they ever did. The only thing they did was they kept a lot of the trolls to their own boards... now they are free to spread across the waves...

But now who will tell me that *random actress* was in their sister's class and was a bitch!? That's what Reddit is for.

Honestly even for its actual purpose I've never really liked using IMDb. Always found it kind of an awkward site to navigate.

Can they not just get trusted posters to volunteer to moderate the place with staff guidelines to keep it balanced?

Can they not just get trusted posters to volunteer to moderate the place with staff guidelines to keep it balanced? I mean, it's a good idea in concept but with how those forums were sometimes, you'd need to pretty much pay people to do that because of how regually those things went to crap and considering you can't predict when some entries' forums would explode due to something going on or if something got unpopular or whatever, it's not worth the amount of investment you'd need for that.

You'd need like a full time deal to get the majority of them

I had no idea IMDB even had message boards. I've always just used it for movie information.

Usually the posts I saw were:
-Popular movie is overrated -"Am I the only who...?" No, you're the ONLY one -Actress/Actor is ugly -Spoilers in the title -Threads not even pretending not to be troll posts
But, I will admit that every now and again there was a scene or plot point I didn't understand, and you could usually find a decent discussion after wading through the crap.

Don't forget the movie/tv show in question has lazy writing. That's basically the argument that was used 90% of the time. The IMDB forums are the bottle of the barrel of internet forums and it's about time they are gone.

Someone created a replacement IMDB site. They also archive the old forums at Moviechat.org
Not a bad idea since for a lot of older movies from the 30's to the 60's you not going find a lot of talk on these films at other places

Anything I used to use the IMDB Message Board for can be done with Reddit. You can find better discussion on there and there is a Sub for pretty much everything.

A few weeks ago, NPR shut down their comments section. I wonder what the underlying reason is.

Well, the boards are now gone. I still have an account, but they are long gone now. I wonder if it's for the better. The Ghostbusters 2016 board was a total cesspool. Sure, some of the users have SAID that they respect if someone liked the film but they clearly didn't.

I blame Ghostbusters(2016) for this. I was just about to find out why Zorg started melting in The 5th Element
