Wow. I think that might have been the first message board I ever signed up for. I still like going and seeing what people talk about after I finish a show or movie. That sucks.

Considering it's populated by about 90% trolls and 5% pretentious film buffs who look down on everybody, I can't say I'll miss it.

I can see how many people wouldn't mind its destruction since it like youtube comments these days ... But for me, there was still value. I found the IMDB forums incredibly useful for finding obscure movie recommendations. With enough digging you could find movies similar to one you just watched and really liked that you would never have even known about.

A friend of mine saw Ghostbusters and liked it, excitedly joined without knowing its reputation, and was accused of being a Sony employee.
Yeah, it's a bucket of piss. Anything, good or bad, will migrate elsewhere.

They were horriblely placed for the longest time, I would be looking up upcoming releases, then seeing spoilers in the message board area, which was right in the middle of the screen.. I remember having both Spider-Man 2 & 3 semi-ruined by people that saw the movies at test screenings putting spoilers in the thread titles.
"Doc Ock comes in a good guy and dies a good guy"
"Why does Harry have to die?"
Sorry if those facts ruin movies that are over ten years old.

Yeah, it's about on par with Youtube comments. No gigantic loss.

How am I going to tell people how I think random actresses I see on Lifetime movies are hot?

How am I supposed to know if an actress I like is fat or ugly now?

Yeah, the message boards are often filled with trolls, but there were occasions where I could actually find a movie I liked and see what other people thought about it, their own questions, etc. I'd say the trolls more often then not hang out on the new film's message boards and since I usually look up older films I rarely had any problem.
So what happens to the website now? Does it just become a website filled with the info pages on the movie, actor, actresses, etc. ?

But where will I be able to ask why Jack Dawson couldn't get on the floating door now?

The problem is that sites scrap their comments sections and message boards only to move to social media which is usually a hotbed for even more extreme posts.

"We have concluded that IMDb's message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience"
The only thing about that assessment I disagree with is the notion that they ever did.

Many years ago it was an interesting place to politely discuss films with people, then at some point it became the home for racists, trolls, bored immature teens and fanboys. Basically it became the youtube comment section of message boards.

I used to feel bad when I would go to an actor's page and they would have no message posts
