Eh, I can just go either here, to Twitter or maybe even Reddit if I have to discuss a movie. Most of IMDB's community had moved onto social media anyway, so there wasn't much point in continuing to pump money into those boards.
Anything that shows bigoted trolls they can't get away with their actions is fine by me.

I am a bit sad to see the boards go, especially when seeing an older movie and seeing the posts. I rarely ever checked the current boards. Alot of old boards were getting really inactive, it was very typical to see one post in 2016, then the next one in 2008. The negative stuff sucks, I had no desire to see 2016 Ghostbusters, but never thought to go on its board and rag on it, simply not seeing it was good enough for me.
Good to see that moviechat.org site having all the boards, in the last week though I saw a few other links to alternative imdb boards, but they didn't seem good. Problem is now these alts will split the percentage that even seeks them out and may even be less active.

I never thought I was going to say this but I actually miss the IMDB forums. if it makes you feel any better I'll call you stupid for your choice in movies "And your Country is stupid because you elected that stupid leader who is stupid just like all the people in your Country and the fact this movie is doing so well in your Country is proof that your Country is f***ed and Civilization is f***ed!" *123 replies later before OP makes his second reply* "Dude all I wanted to talk about which special effects in Inception were practical and which ones were CGI..."

I had an account at one point. People were very, very negative in my experience too. I've watched something before, thought it was fine, and jumped on there just to find it was in fact the worst movie ever made and all the acting was terrible. It works in reverse too. I've seen things that seemed like confused jumbles of self indulgent faux art and people are just smitten with it and attack all the plebs that "didn't get it."
I can't help but conclude most people use their online voice to be arrogant morons and dicks.

I really liked their message board and found it quite useful, particularly if I was perusing Netflix or Amazon Prime and came across a movie I knew nothing about or if I was perplexed by a scene in a movie and needed some explanation. Sure, it had it's share of mean-spirited posts or borderline-offensive garbage, but that's the stuff you don't click on or just scroll past. Nobody is demanding you read the threads about how "(actress) has gotten fat!" or "(movie) is misogynistic!"
Blaming trolls or gimmick posters for closing an entire message board is weak, as the sum of the board still had value. If someone publishes something that's offensive or taboo, then take it down or ban the user. But to altogether shutter a valuable resource just because of a few rotten eggs is particularly lame.

Where will I go to find the message board equivalent to a pile of rhino shit now? Youtube, 4chan, Reddit wherever. Not like IMDB's problems were exclusive.

It sucks for fans of older/little known movies like I am. Haven't had any luck finding any online discussions for those type of movies outside of IMDB.
