What about the old Irish song 'Whiskey in a Jar" .. covered by The Dubliners, Thin Lizzy and Metallica.
Not entirely clear but it sounds like Molly was in cahoots with Captain Farrell, and betrayed the protagonist of the song.

"Sail Away," you say? If you can't pick up on the subtext in the verses, the chorus reveals that Newman's narrator is attempting to convince people to become slaves in America. And speaking of Randy Newman: Maybe not so much a plot twist as it as a "This is why you suck, too" moment, but at the third verse forward, it goes from being a typical "LOL southerners are dumb and racist" song to a "hey, smug, educated northerners, you guys can be just as bad, if not worse" song. Randy Newman is really good at this, is what I'm trying to say. Randy Newman is the f***ing man. Rednecks is ROUGH. Might want to put a pretty heavy language warning on there, by the way. My pick is 'She's A Jar' by Wilco. Seems mostly like a love song, then the last line is 'she begs me not to hit her.'

First one that came to mind was 'Stan.' I wouldn't say that's a plot twist, just a worsening situation. However, "Bad Guy", another Eminem song, is a great one seeing as {Spoiler}the first time you listen, there's no indication for the first few minutes that the person who's perspective Eminem is rapping from isn't his own.

How about "Stayin' Alive"? Man, what an upbeat, happy song... about putting on the façade of being a player while silently breaking down over the hollowness of a life spent solely on superficial pleasures, with the title referring to someone who is unable to do more than "staying alive"!

Ray Jessel. He was on America's Got Talent. He was 84 at the time and his song has quite a twist. Song starts at 1:50. youtu.be/P4_Bxqp2tQU

Beat me to it, Summeteeth's a great album, pop arrangements with dark, dark lyrics. Going back to the 60s:

Would "Why Dont You Get A Job" by the Offspring count? I always assumed that the "let me tell you about my other friend now" part is actually from the perspective of the girl who's being dissed by the first 2 verses (of course, we dont know which narrator is telling the truth).

It's from a somewhat-local band that has a bit of a horror genre going on. Probably known by almost no one here... but it's a bad ass song. You think you know what he's talking about at the beginning buuuuut nope. Completely changes.
