Even without the sendoff, it was pretty clear Taker is done just watching the match (nevermind the result). The fact it was even vaguely passable is actually pretty surprising.

Taker looked so broken down. It was sad.
The match was just meh. It was sad.
Undertaker walked into the ring, Mark Calloway walked out. I cried.

I mean now when you look back on the past 3 yeears, there's no reason why 30 shouldn't have been Undertaker's sendoff. Yeah i really feel like the past several years/matches were so bad that they almost tarnished his legacy. He has looked sooooo old and slow during them that it reminded me a lot of when ric flair got well past the point of being embarrassing and i hate that not only as a fan but more so for taker himself. I know he probably never wanted to be one of those guys who got way past the point of being able to carry himself to a respectable match or actually looked the part. I hate the most it was roman being his last. My god....roman gained NOTHING from that win. No one is going to look at him and think "wow...he's awesome now". It should have been given to either someone young enough to truly push them to the next level (where roman already is in terms of where the company sees him) or cena since that was the match most fans wanted to see him go out on. Just all around frustrating how the greatest wwe performer in history went out when it could have been handled so much better.

Roman did what he could but it was sad seeing Taker like that. He should have hung it up after WM30.

personally I've always wanted Undertaker's final match be between him and Kane

His body is shot so now was time to hang it up. A shame he could not deliver one last classic performance but he went out the way he wanted to and got to say goodbye

Yeah the match wasn't pretty at all from a technical standpoint. That Tombstone counter in particular sucked out loud, but for most of it Reigns was off his game and Taker just looked sad.
But in spite of the botches and sloppiness I think the match worked really well from a storytelling standpoint, especially since the match wasn't hyped up as Taker's retirement (nor did it even have any sort of career ending stipulation). I disagreed with the booking of the Wyatt feud, but in retrospect "Taker gets rocked by a unique destructive force of nature, redeems himself with wins over a new supernatural villain, and ultimately goes down fighting against someone much his equal" is as solid an arc as you can get in modern WWE.

The bar we were in turned the TVs off straight after the 3 count. I'm not kidding that the police has been called and bouncers have been attacked. I don't agree with it but childhoods died and they just literally pulled the plug. The f***? That's what you get for going to a road house.

Alright the match sucked. Whatever. Threes times where we should suspend Reigns hate for the bigger story. The ending to the show was masterfuly done to end the most respectful career. If anyone deserves a tribute to retirement without criticism its Undertaker. What did you expect look back fondly at the man's work. To mope and complain about Roman doesn't serve Taker justice.

I also would've been fine with him retiring at 31 after losing to Bray Wyatt, as a passing of the torch from one supernatural to another. I actually fantasy booked Bray defeating Taker and absoring the streak so he would start his own.It would be neat.

Taker having to teach Reigns how to get into Hell's Gate and then Roman still f***ing it up was worse than the Tombstone spot.

Has anyone undercut the solemn post-match segment Taker got with Roman hate? Because if so I haven't seen those posts, but it seems like all anyone's shitting on Reigns for here is the actual match proper, which even you're conceding sucked.

Why was he not out there with someone that could carry him to a decent last match? Did they really think this would be the thing to get Reigns over as a face. Staggering but unsurprising stupidity.

Does this even put Roman over?
The way everyone is saying it sounds the equivalent of a baked Jock beating up an old man

Yep, I'm glad. It's uncomfortable watching him in the ring. He's given his all to WWE. Let the guy have a nice retirement. He's certainly earned that.

Does this even put Roman over? The way everyone is saying it sounds the equivalent of a baked Jock beating up an old man I used a very similar analogy myself. Nothing that needed to happen in that match happened. Reigns is still the same Cena clone he was before the match. It should've been: Taker vs. Balor Taker vs. Cena Taker vs. Styles first one for the spectacle and would have felt like a true passing the torch moment. second one for the actual big fight feel Vince has tunnel visioned himself into believing Roman is. third because Styles would have made Taker look like a million bucks. But by all means, don't be on the card, do a fake proposal angle, and face the bosses son.
