"Mad World" is one of the darkest songs I've ever heard (not in the growling, evil kind of way. The emotional, depressing kind of way), and I'm hooked on it because of that. The melody is depressing enough, but when you actually listen to the words it's on a while different level of pessimism. Note: Not talking about the original version by Tears for Fears made way back in the 80s, but the cover song by Gary Jules that was made about 4 or 5 years ago. Even though it's been around since '01 or '02, I just heard it for the first time on the trailer for the game Gears of War the other day.. Here's the song in it's entirety, performed live: Gary Jules - Mad World (Live)And here's the crappy music video: Gary Jules - Mad WorldAnybody else like this song?

Great cover. The best version, IMO.

Yes....the BEAUTIFUL real time in game engine promotional trailer for Gears hooked me onto this song, as well. It fits Gears of War PERFECTLY. If only this song was on the soundtrack......T_T

I do like the cover version, but IMO the original is far superior. The best thing about the cover was that it was the Christmas Number 1 in the UK chart in 2003.

I like that song. The original and cover are great. And, that Gears Of War commercial is the best damn commercial out there!

Good cover. It was also in Donnie Darko, which fit right in there too.

Good dark song for a movie as a standalone, true. Some songs work only in the context of the song, but that's just all in all a good one. I think Golden Brown from "Snatch" and Needle In The Hay from "The Royal Tennanbaums" are mostly similar in tone and mood..... Mostly.....

I love this song, but I don't think this song fits the Gears of War commercial at all. But that's just me.

Wes Anderson has a great ear for picking out the right song for key points in his movies. The fact that Needle in the Hay was usedin the sucide scene and then Elliot Smith ended his own life a few year later makes it that much sadder.

I like it. I thought it fit the epilogue of Donnie Darko perfectly. It seemed kinda weird in the Gears of War commercial, what with no sound effects playing behind the music, but it was nice to hear the song again. I'm suprised no one yet has stated that they always thought that the song was sung by Live. I know I did when I first heard it years ago.

It doesn't fit Gears of War at all, I'm not expecting heavy metal crap to go along with Killer aliens and that kinda stuff and I see how they are trying to go with an emotional song, but........it doesn't work and it ends up sucking bad. I think the song would be better suited in a Final Fantasy game if anything.

It's funny, but I always found the original to be darker.

I think the song would be better suited in a Final Fantasy game if anything. So.....basically, like.....um..... "All around me are familiar faces, worn out places, worn out faces...." Doesn't fit the war torn world of Sera(Gears of War's setting), but rather fit the more or less, happy go lucky Final Fantasy series? It DOES fit Gears of War, because the humans are fighting a losing war with the Locust, and this song brings up Marcus Fenix's situation. Explain to me how it would fit Final Fantasy? At the best, the music itself being used would fit a FF game, but not the words.

As stated before I fell in love with this song during the ending of Donnie Darko because it was just so ultimately fitting...the line of "The dreams in which im dieing are the best ive ever had" and the comfortable look on "Donnie"'s face as he accepts his fate was beyond emotional.

For people who haven't seen it yet, here's the aforementioned Gears of War commercial, in it's entirety (the extended version that's hardly ever seen on television): Gears of War 'Mad World' Trailer
