I'm giving The Lapsed Fan podcast a try, after hearing a lot of people speak highly of it. I've listened to two episodes so far, and really like the main host (Jack). The co-host is abysmal. Jack keeps calling him "Boss." This guy appears to think he can do decent impersonations, especially Vince McMahon, but literally everything he says sounds like a bad Triple H impersonation. Then he starts burying Bruce Prichard for having no talent to do anything pro wrestling related. At that point, I really couldn't stand it anymore and had to shut the show off. Even though I really did like Jack's contribution to the show. Seriously, that guy is one of the worst podcasters I've heard in a long, long time. After such awful impersonations, to then claim Prichard, who does excellent ones of just about everybody, has no talent... was the end of me ever listening to this guy again. My question, for those who frequently listen to this podcast, is how often is this particular guy on? Do they have rotating co-hosts? I hope so.

There is no point in trying to fight it. You don't want this podcast, you NEED this podcast.

First few times I listened in the beginning I couldn't stand JP so I stopped listening maybe a year later a friend suggested I give it another try and when I did it hit me JP is that annoying friend that loves wrestling who knows everything but also knows nothing and has irrational hatred of things and people for no good reason at all once I saw it that way he kinda became endearing.Their a gimmick and it's just 2 friends BSing about fraudulent entertainment for sometimes over 9 hours.

The worst thing that annoyed me was how terrible his "Vince McMahon" is. Sounds nothing like Vince McMahon. Just bad Triple H. Yet he kept doing it, repeatedly, for the entire show.
If he's on regularly, I think I'll just have to avoid this particular podcast.

Thanks for the tip!
Some people just aren't cut out for doing impressions. That guy is at the top of the list.

I honestly don't care if the impression sounds nothing like him, what 'Vince' says is hilarious. JP exquisitely captures Vince's irrationality, dark perversions and his painful insecurities.
I never thought I'd enjoy listening to two people dissect In Your House Revenge of the Taker for 7 hours, but those guys have made it happen.

Has anyone else felt like Something To Wrestle With has taken the shine off of The Lapsed Fan? I used to love it so much, but I rarely get through episodes most weeks now. I get all the chemistry, deep dives, impressions, running gags, etc with even more insight with a guy who was there for all of it. It makes TLF seem cheap.

The Lapsed Fan and Bruce Prichard's podcast fill different needs for me.
Prichard's show gives me a version of the backstage story and The Lapsed Fan gives me a well sourced and entertaining fan perspective. Plenty of room for both on my ipod!

I'm very much more Lapsed Fan than Bruce. Lapsed is cynical, but funny cynical. Bruce's anti-Meltzer gimmick and 18 "you know...."s per episode are somehow more grating than JP Sarro shoehorning Martha Hart impressions into WCW show reviews. Also, their monetization is "throw some cash to our Patreon...or not, you losers," while Pritchard is a new product placement spot every 5 minutes. Just my two cents, though.

I feel like all wrestling fan podcasts kinda teeter around the entertaining and self serving annoyance constantly.
Even the much beloved OSW review is guilty of this with V1 straight up saying in one episode that he barely paid attention to the subject being discussed because he was too busy laughing at the jokes he was writing down for the podcast. Like....get out of your own ass for 2 seconds dude.
The thing that never fails to kinda irk me with the Lapsed Fan is their running gag of "THE GUYS" saying stuff like a wrestler is only truly over if men cheer for him. Kinda weird and vaguely sexist but it's hard to tell what they even mean.

It's a great listen. I think that it's still maintained what makes it entertaining for me. It's just two guys who love wrestling chatting shit and enjoying themselves. The impressions and the skits can maybe go on too long at times but the shows are tremendously entertaining. I always listen to them at night and drift off to sleep to them so given their length one show usually lasts me about 4 or 5 days of listening.
I hope it doesn't go the way of most podcasts that begin as enjoyable but then the creators become too aware of themselves, if you know what I mean? It hasn't happened to the LF yet but I've listened to so many wrestling podcasts that start off tremendously entertaining and it gains a level of notoriety and it just turns to garbage with everyone to focused on shilling their gimmick and other crap and the reason why you tuned in in the first place gets lost.
But right now the Lapsed Fan is great. My one regret is that I think they rushed through a lot of shows far too quickly. Their 30 week 30 Wrestlemania journey was awesome but even more awesome would be if today they left themselves some classic Wrestlemanias to visit and give the LF treatment.

What I Like: I appreciate how in-depth they go with some of these shows to give us a full understanding of the time period. I'm always more interested in the first half of the podcast where it's more of an open discussion of the show than I am when they do the play-by-play. It helps they're nostalgic for the same time period of wrestling as me and I laugh when they pick up on the little eccentric things that make some of these old school shows so special.
What I Don't Like: JP can be super off-putting and I have stopped listening to a couple of the podcasts because I can't deal with him. I'm sure he thinks a lot of the stuff he says is so outrageous it will come back around to being funny, but it really doesn't for me.

It's my by far favourite wrestling podcast going. No other show puts as much effort into qualitative analysis and research as theirs. Podcasts where fans sit around and share their boring opinions are a dime a dozen. But the fact they're also funny tops it for me. You never know if Lapsed Vince will suddenly assault your ears, or yell at Patterson, or for whatever reason meet John du Pont.

No other show puts as much effort into qualitative analysis and research as theirs. It's hard for anyone to even come close to Between The Sheets for that.

I love this podcast and am constantly amazed at how good all of the impressions are. So talented that sometimes I don't know if it's an impression or they spliced in the real soundbites.
And the in-house are hilarious.

No wonder I enjoy JP as much as I do then. I'm basically that exact type of friend you described. It's been the one thing I listen to when I'm at work now. I have a ton of different things I can put on and have tried to put on, but I end up switching right over to TLF in short order.

My best friend is that exact type of fan and while a lot of people find him annoying I personally get a kick out of it and JP reminds me a lot of him but my friend doesn't do many impressions. As for wrestling podcasts since I started back listening to TLF I haven't missed an episode and right now it,TIJ when he has a guest I'm interested in and E&C's shows are the only ones I listen to regularly.

Though I have my issues with Lapsed Fan from time to time. I do really like them and will take their show over a lot of other wrestling pods.
The Attitude Era podcast is particularly annoying. Though if you ever wanted a 30 minute discussion on how wrestling fans should be ashamed for fat shaming Vader. It may be your deal.
