It was mentioned once in a promo by Vince, then in a promo by pre rapper Cena, and there was an action figure line. Yet apparently this was a whole era. At least with attitude, it was all over their marketing, and they always made sure you knew about it. Ruthless Aggression? Other than the 3 things I mentioned I don't ever remember hearing another peep about it. Well there was the Raw 2 game that originally had the sub title of ruthless aggression, but then it was taken off the final product. It's like they wanted to go with it, but it just didn't catch on, and they ceased talking about it.
Nevertheless it's what many fans call it, I guess it just sounds cooler than brand extension era. I personally call it the post war era, because to me thats what it was, the early years after the Monday night war ended. It's also interesting that even though most people consider Wrestlemania 17 the end of the Attitude Era, they kept attitude in the opening logo's all the way until 2005 when Raw moved back to USA. Maybe I'm just thinking about it too much haha.

I was never big on the term myself; always sounded like the trite phrase some douchebag manager at a real estate company would write on a white board to motivate his sellers.

For me and only as far as I know it was just shortly after people started labeling different periods in WWE's timeline as "eras" and was a quick buzzword that WWE picked up, then tried to capitalize on to signify that they were trying to move on from what became known as the attitude Era in trying to present a slightly different style, new stars, etc.

Only other thing I can remember about that time frame is Benoit's "Toothless Aggression" shirt.

I'm disappointed we never got the nickname "Ruthless Randy".

It's easier for fans to call it Ruthless Aggression rather than Old WCW Stars, Triple H is invincible, last ditch shock TV efforts, Nu-Metal everywhere, roided dude bros, and random big guys who fought The Undertaker but lost era.

Every now and then they'd say it.
Was always kind of a dumb sounding buzzword straight from mid 90s marketing. If Ruthless Aggression had a poster boy, he'd be slamming down Mountain Dew while riding a skateboard.

I often see people refer to the years following the Attitude Era as the Post-War Era. Makes so much more sense than the Ruthless Aggression Era.

I remember a WWE book rebranded the era as "The Post War Era" which sounds a lot better to me.

I call it the Ruthless Agression Era too. I think if they mentioned it more often, people would complain about them beating it to the ground.
I always thought a good way to do eras was by WM.
1-6 Rock and Wrestling 7-8 New Rock and Wrestling Generation 9-13 New Generation 14-18 Attitude 19-22 Ruthless Agression 23-26Universe Era 27-29 Nostalgia Era 30-now Workrate Era

Only other thing I can remember about that time frame is Benoit's "Toothless Aggression" shirt. Benoit had some pretty embarrassing nicknames during this time, but this was one of the worst. 4 Real was also just silly. It's hard to top the Crippler.

Oh my god, I forgot about his silly tights with "4 Real" on them. Honestly, Benoit in WWE was just weird after he came back from his neck surgery. He constantly changed his tights and started wearing awful colors like lavender and yellow. Didn't suit him at all.

Everything was off about the guy after his return, I mean he still put on great matches, but he just sucked as a character after that first awesome year he had in WWF where he technically had the title won a couple times and was the first guy to make Kane tap out. I guess I can understand getting rid of the Crippler name, but why the awesome slit tights?

Especially since he actually crippled someone. That kinda shit is hard to come by.

Just not like burrowed into your brain... though I'd put it to more Late 90's I think mid 90's would be like Rewthless Aggrsin...

It wasn't an era, it was just a buzzphrase they were pushing that didn't work.
