I wasn't a fan during this time. I heard that when Hogan got squashed by Quake on an episode of Superstars, the fans were told to write "Get Well" cards. The same fans got a postcard "from" Hulk saying "Thank You" and I think on the cards it said something along the lines of "Because of you, I decided to come out of retirement and face Earthquake at Summerslam '90."
Now, Considersting that this was before the Internet came into popularity, I wonder what Dave Meltzer wrote during this time. I can imagine it was something along the lines of: "The company sent out postcards 'from' Hogan last Wednesday confirming the fact that Hulk will wrestle Earthquake at Summerslam."

Well I think they used the letter campaign to beef up their catalog mailing list prior to the holiday season. I didn't know they got something back. That's awesome.
On a related note, the promo Hogan cuts when he announces that "Hell no I'm not retiring. I've been reborn man!" Is one of the greatest ever and certainly one of Hogan's best. I get chills when I see it. It instantly transforms me to in a little Hulkamaniac again.

My inner 5 year old at the time was crying like crazy and wanted EarthQuake to get his comeuppance.

If this was Tugboat pleading for the Hulkamaniacs to write to Hulk and wish him well, I did that. I didn't get a postcard. I got 2 promo 8x10s and 2 friendship bracelets. One of Hogan and one of...Ultimate Warrior.
Yeah, didn't make sense to me either. (I still have them somewhere.)

It has since than, been deleted.

They didn't need my address to send me catalogs because I was already a WWF Magazine subscriber. Maybe that's where the difference is.

This angle is where my totally rationale fear of a random morbidly obese man squashing me started.I didn't write him a get well note because the whole Matilda thing soured me on wishing others well.

I just got a generic postcard with the WWF logo on the front and an even more generic form letter on the back.
Never saw a merchandise catalog or anything else.

It wasn't actually Hulk Hogan that Earthquake squashed. It was actually hamburger meat in some pantyhose.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUD6hjAiOLkThe video the WWF made to pay tribute to Hogan after the attack still gives me chills. Hogan's pop at the SNME when he returned was just AMAZING!

I came here to post this. If you did not cry as a kid at the slowed down version of Real American and the locker door shutting at the end. You have no heart

I though that was a great angle and yeah the video with the Real American theme slowed down got to me as a kid, put Quake over huge as a guy who actually put Hogan on the shelf for an extended period of time.

Tossed my Hogan one in a drawer and wore my Warrior one.

My inner 5 year old at the time was crying like crazy and wanted EarthQuake to get his comeuppance. It's the first wrestling angle I remember watching and I cried my heart out for Hogan. So glad I got to thank Quake for that memory while he was still a member here.

How come there was no letter writing campaign when Quake squished Damian? Just asking.
