Most likely the Home Market might have to save it I believe Paramount are counting on it having staying power over huge weekends. Even so, it would be a shame if they finally got the formula right only for it not to make any money.

Right now the China Market would be a big help. Apparently they love them some Bay Prime

Cena was honestly really surprising to me. I've never much liked his acting forays, but here, he hit the exact right sort of over the top goofy that was perfect for this kind of movie. I wasn't planning on seeing this movie, but I had a movie gift card and decided to go since it wasn't actually going to cost me money and I was very very pleasantly surprised. It hit the right kind of nostalgia notes without feeling pandering or out of place.

Man, Bay musta really poisoned the well with these (I didn't watch one after the awful 2nd one) cuz I'm literally the only dude in this theater on a Friday night in its 2nd week.

A really fun throwback to the 80's "Kid/Strange Vistor" adventure films. Some notes.
-The opening five minutes were the best live-action Transformers yet. And then being able to see them transforming clearly and being able to see what's happening in their fights clearly throughout the movie? What a concept!
-Amazing what having an actual story as opposed to just running around, blowing things up and occasionally searching for a McGuffin can do for your movie.
-And actually hiring good actors! This was probably best exemplified in getting Pamela Adlon to the play the mom, as she brought real emotion to a role that could have been the standard obstacle-to-the-plot concerned mom. You felt that all these characters actually had these relationships with each other, rather than just hearing them say "You're my friend, Bumblebee" or "I love you, Charlie".
-Mayor Royce from The Wire is the head of the Army in the Transformers universe, so I'm declaring it official canon that Clay Davis is the President here. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-it!

Was decent. Easily the best Transformers out of the 3 I've now seen.

There definitely appears to be a continuation of the Transformers fatigue that really set in during Last Knight's theatrical run, coupled with a "No, really, it's actually good!" problem and both Aquaman and Mary Poppins Returns taming huge bites out of its box office potential. Much like Solo, this movie seems like it was set up to fail from the beginning.

A shame, it was good.

I wonder if Paramount thought Aquaman would bomb, like much of the DCEU, so they assumed they'd be able to poach that audience. Problem is Aquaman is apparently real good so that strategy bit Paramount on the butt.

Yeah, the Bay films may have soured people on an actual good movie like Bumblebee but I do think some other factors may be at play here. First, Aquaman is serious competition, as is Mary Poppins Returns and even Spiderverse. Also, the lack of most of the known Transformers might hurt this, since Optimus Prime is barely in it and Megatron isn't in it at all. So it kinda comes off as a B list movie in that respect. Also, while Hailee Steinfeld is excellent in this film I do wonder if having a teenage female lead in a Transformers movie is a good idea given the target audience for this stuff.

So just got back from seeing this. The movie might go down as a financial bomb, but nobody can say I didn't throw my ten bucks in.
In terms of audience, I apparently had a very different experience then everybody else in this thread. While not packed, my theater had a good sized audience in it and there were at least twice as many people in this as there were at the Friday night showing of Once Upon a Deadpool and the Christmas Day showing of Into the Spider-Verse I was at. The theater seemed to be moving a lot of things around at the last minute. My screen that was showing Bumblebee had signage for Mortal Engines on it and the screen that was showing Mary Poppins had signage for that new Jennifer Lopez movie on it.
As for the movie, this was easily the best Transformers movie ever made. It was very very good, but I'd stop short of calling it great. Honestly I thought there were too many pointless shenanigans going on in the first half that held it back. Seriously, were the girl bullies really necessary? They felt like a Michael Bay idea just realized a whole lot better then Michael Bay ever could. And why did that TV Bumblebee wrecked have Pong on it? This was 1987, not 1977, the glory days of the NES, show me some Metroid or something damnit.
This also holds the distinction of being the second movie I've seen in the last two weeks that had A-ha's "Take on Me" on its soundtrack. I don't know why, I just find that interesting.

I wonder if Paramount thought Aquaman would bomb, like much of the DCEU, so they assumed they'd be able to poach that audience. Problem is Aquaman is apparently real good so that strategy bit Paramount on the butt. Justice League was the only bomb of the DCEU. Wonder Woman and Suicide Squad were massive hits ( Aquaman being well on the way to joining them), Man of Steel was a respectable success. Batman v Superman was considered a disappointment by WB because it didn't cross $1 billion and then people turned that into it being a outright bomb, but it still had a colossal opening weekend and ended up making a good bit of money. Most of them are critical bombs (the "really good" Aquaman has a 64% on Rotten Tomatoes, only the second film in the series to not be judged "Rotten"), but the series by and large has been a financial success.

Aquaman isn't even "really good". It's an ok two hours, but that's as far as it goes.

Aquaman isn't even "really good". It's an ok two hours, but that's as far as it goes. Definitely disagree on that. Aquaman was very good when you consider the drama that the WB/DCEU has been involved in and releasing. Aquaman as a whole should've been ridiculous and a bomb in retrospect.

Well it was ridiculous. Entertainingly so, but it was. It's a decently fun movie, but it's nothing I'm rushing to see again. Different strokes.

I went to see this with my brother-in-law and my nephews on opening day. I had a good time with this, especially after seeing the other Transformers movies (The only ones of those five that I have seen more than once were 1 and 3, which were SOMEWHAT average). I wouldn't mind going to watch it again.

They should definitely have John Cena's character spin-off into a soft reboot GIJoe
