They're intrusive, annoying and a part of life, but how have they impacted you? It makes sense that they try to tailor them to your interests, even if you do find it creepy, but have you noticed if you have bought some of the things that have popped up when you're trying to watch a Youtube video, or read the news? Any reports on how it's actually doing? I presume it's doing well since they keep popping up everywhere.

They can be a pain, but the ones you can skip after a few seconds, don't bother me as much.

Thing is, since it tracks what sites you go, 90% of the ads are for online stores I just came from, and was waiting to get paid to shop at anyway.
So I just end up being shown stuff I'm already buying.
And catheters.

I presume they must work for someone.
I don't think I've clicked on an ad banner in a decade at least.

I've never clicked on one and if a company makes me see their annoying ad before watching something on youtube or it pops up on a website I do my best to avoid using said companies product.
I don't mind them if they're small and indiscreet. But when I just want to watch an advert on youtube but need to sit through an ad first or, even more annoying, autoplay ads on other websites so something is playing that I have to find and mute before I read the article.

Oh yeah, there's also the new, even MORE annoying kind.
Autoplay ad, that forces your browser to the place where the Ad is so you lose your place and can't scroll away from it for a while.

Other than the blatant annoyance of autoplay ads, my thing is that the ads I get have little to nothing to do with any of my interests. Outside of ads for WWE Network, it seems I tend to get the generic 18-35 year old American treatment. Hell, I went through Facebook preferences and pretty much gutted what they presumed my interests were (movies, pop/rap/r&b music, reality tv celebs, etc.), figuring I'd be seeing ads either way, they might as well be stuff I actually cared about. And I STILL get advertised all the stuff I was trying to get rid of, and hardly any of what I signed up for.

I never bought anything because of a online ad. Even though I was tempted to go for free taco night in one of my local bars that was advertising here on my personal FAN. But I guess full time YouTubers who rely on YouTube advertising for a living that get hit by the new monetizing rules are affected the most.

I go out of the way to make sure I don't buy their shit.
If say, McDonalds pops up an add that says "YOU WANT CHEESEBURGER", I might now want a cheeseburger, but I'll purposefully not get it from Mcdonalds.

The worst are these damn ads that play in the middle of Youtube videos . Youtube, if this is your way of trying to get me to sign up for Youtube Red, it's not going to work.

I think it does. Companies who combine targeted ads with using metric-driven placement will probably see a return vs companies who just broadly put stuff out there and try to FORCE it upon you.
A lot of times the ads come too late for me. I'll research which new sunglasses I want to buy - click around and then eventually buy one.
Then I start seeing ads that are clearly geared towards the specific kind of sunglasses I was shopping for, but already bought.
But the basic idea of online ads now is that if you look at something on Amazon, you'll start seeing ads for it (or similar things) on other sites you visit.

I've noticed a change in the last two days-on my work computer, I'll search a story on google and it redirects to yahoo of all places and a new window has been popping up fairly often-even news apps have updated and have click bait

Between ad block and my downloading most vids off YouTube I rarely see ads.

The worst are these damn ads that play in the middle of Youtube videos . Youtube, if this is your way of trying to get me to sign up for Youtube Red, it's not going to work. Facebook ads are the same way. Which would already chafe my ass if not for the fact that these dumbass, irrelevant ads often pop up in the middle of news videos. The ads don't make me want to buy anything. If anything, they make me want to avoid that company, for being a pain in my ass, and they make Facebook a less enjoyable experience. 0 for 2.
