"I did [have a choice between ROH and GFW]. Did I [pick ROH over GFW]? Did I ever? No. I did. I 100% did. It was a hard process to go through. Am I too far? Alls we want to do is make a living doing this and I go so long with no offers, nothing, like it's never going to happen, and, suddenly, two offers are on the table and one of them, one of them was not a living, and the other one, I mean, it was a decent salary, but it wasn't the place I felt like I wanted to be and I didn't have the best experience. Everyone was super nice, but I just didn't feel… [Cabana knows] Ring Of Honor is kind of hands-off when it comes to your character and creativity. I didn't feel like that was going to happen down there [at GFW]." "I told them in the most professional way possible. It's not like I just said, 'nah!' I called them and explained to them my case. Right, it felt like I was breaking up with somebody. I got phone calls from people telling me I was making a big mistake from that office. I don't feel like I made a mistake. But, at that time, they were really trying to make me feel regretful. And that almost solidified my decision-making, like, 'why would I want to work for somebody who wants to hurt me just because you can't give me what I need, so you're telling me I'm making a mistake?'" wrestlinginc.com/wi/news/2017/0916/632215/dalton-castle-on-why-he-picked-roh-over-tna/

Stay classy GFW. Dalton dodged a bullet, good for him and the boys.

Good on him for sticking with his choice and for realizing that their guilt shit was a red flag. TNA remains a total joke, but now a slightly slimier one than it was before.

Wow. Wonder if GFW has a mailing list and they send you notices trying to guilt you for not buying their stuff.

Well I get why they were pissed off. There was a time where TNA was a step up for all the Indy guys in the business and it's not as much anymore. When AJ and Daniels came in in 2002, it was an Indy bigger than the other Indys and AJ had a try out in the WWE and it did not work out so TNA was the next best thing.
Even as recently as late 2009 when Desmond Wolfe came in, him going from ROH to TNA was a step up.
But I think the main problem TNA has right now that they didn't have was there was more freedom in what the guys could do before creatively. And there was more of an open door policy for all these talented Indy guys to come in. If this was still a thing, they wouldn't have to pitch to get Castle, cause he would already have been there. (remember that they had Moxley and Punk in their line-up at some point).
More importantly TNA doesn't have the financial attraction that they've had before because of Anthem's stupid restrictions and cause they don't have the big revenues they had cause of Spike. I bet that Castle can go on other Indy shows and keep his money, whereas if he would work in TNA that would be a big problem.
TNA is pissed cause the guys working behind the scenes in that company are not Indy guys whether they have worked for WCW and WWE, they see themselves in the major leagues. So they feel like they rejected by someone that prefers working for an Indy fed.
Another element to consider is that in the past, guys that went to TNA felt like this was their chance for the big times. But in recent times, with NXT, the WWE has hired tons of guys from the Indys they would never had before whether it's Chris Hero, Cole, Dijak and before that Cesaro and Owens. Even freakin Burger was hired. So they probably feel it's better for them to bide their time a little bit and the WWE will come knocking at their door rather quickly if they have some talent.

Ok ROH became the de facto number two promotion in the states because of TNA's mistakes.
ROH has a bigger upside than GFW there's no comparison. Also you don't hear stories about ROH doing the shit GFW has done to wrestlers.

He in TNA would've ended up being Orlando Jordan 2.0 Not that it really matters because he's awesome either way, but just out of curiosity is Dalton Castle gay or bi in real life?

This would have been 2015; not only was TNA deep in some bad time shit, they couldn't pay anyone on time, they had no reason to get mad at somebody for choosing to make an actual living.

Considering how TNA used him when they brought him for the One Night Only, I'm sure glad he didn't sign. They completely missed the mark on his act.

LOL this company.
Also, I remember when he made that one appearance, they replaced the Boys with women. Enough said.

He's straight, married to a woman. As for his character, he stated on a podcast (Ross Report, maybe?) that he has decided what sexuality the character is, but it'll never be revealed.

I remember finding this out a couple years ago and it made me respect the dude even more. Like...there's being comfortable enough with your sexuality, and then there's the Dalton Castle level. It's like the Neville Level, but with "boys".

He was still pretty much the same gimmick. The Boys are the x-factor that ties the gimmick together, but having girls was hardly the worst sin. They re-dubed his music the show aired, and lost the audio over his entrance banter. There was all sorts of little things that collectively killed his presentation.

ROH doesn't do much with him, but at the time I'm sure it was better to not do much, get to work indies, and get paid on time than to not do much, get your indie price jacked up so that nobody's willing to pony up (and have to turn over the lion's share if someone does pony up), and not get paid.

I really don't know how you can respect any of TNA's office and higher ups after hearing this, honestly. Even the ones who haven't really done too many overtly evil things. In a time when the company had no money and was wildly behind on paying people, they called this guy to tell him off for not letting them take advantage of him. This company is scum, and has always been scum.
