My condolences to the family and friends of the victims. So far the motive of this terrible thing hasn't been mentioned yet... although no answer will be good enough. In all honesty, I don't want us to discuss his motivations. I don't want his name out there. I don't want him to get anything he wanted so that other potential shooters see that we won't give him the fame and attention they might want. Call him S***head McF***face, ignore his motivation (and therefore his cause he wants attention for), and focus exclusively on the victims.

As much as I hate when the media glorifies killers in their infamy, I do think it's important and even cathartic to learn why someone could do something so reprehensible.

My uncle works at Mandalay Bay Hotel/Casino. He was working last night and told me they were on lockdown for a long time. He's fine now at least.
Shocking tragedy. Almost like a random act of violence with no motive. A huge concert of people under attacked no less. Condolences to all effected by the event.

I used to stay at Mandalay Bay almost every time I've been to Vegas. I know what that view looks like, and the thought of someone breaking that window and firing into a crowd...it's like a movie plot or something. It's totally insane and tragic.

Condolences to the victims. Am I I the only who's slightly relieved it doesn't look like ISIS had anything to do with this one? I actually think this sort of thing is worse. At least when it's Islamic terrorist related you know there is some twisted ideology used to legitimise their actions. The fact that somebody has just snap without any warning or fanaticism to shoot over 500 people is actually a more terrifying thought. hopefully without breaking any board rules, I feel like I should clarify what I meant. ISIS carrying out a successful, large scale domestic attack could bring about changes domestically that I think would be disastrous for the country, and they're well aware of that. I think that day is still coming, but I'm relieved it's not this one.

50+ dead, 500+ injured. A guy sprays a concert with a fully automatic rifle from the 32nd floor of a hotel. I don't even bat an eye. No shock, no surprise, nothing other than sadness for the people killed and hurt. We truly are living in strange times.

I usually don't comment in these threads... I know the world's a shitty place, and shitty things happen. I try my hardest to avoid them, and pretend the little bubble I live in within my little cowtown outside of Sacramento is a-okay. I try to think the good outshines the the evil....
It's just sickening though... so senseless. My sister was thinking of going to this festival, and that alone makes me want to vomit. Words don't do it enough justice, so I'm not even going to try. Here's to all the victims and their families & friends hoping they can find peace in this unbelievably difficult time.

I get that it's sometimes scary to think that it'll glorify them but, I'd like to know why so that everyone can have full closure and we can learn from it and TRY to prevent it next time.

Wow. Horrific attack on these people enjoying music. Really an awful thing that seems to be just accepted as a reminder we are never 'safe' no matter where we are. OK, we know it’s an emotional situation, but keep in mind our rules about politics. Politics or not, I do hope some policies are introduced to try and prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

After Dunblane and Port Arthur, the United Kingdom and Australia took decisive action and have almost completely prevented further attacks of a similar scale.
In the United States, none of that will happen, so these massacres will continue to happen over and over again.

They'll put metal detectors in hotel lobbies because it's probably the only way to even police a hotel overlooking an open air concert like this. I went to Wembley last week and they've put up concrete barriers on the path. It's not the only place either. It's unnerving that they have to, but at least the measures are there.

Video is years old but still as relevant today That's the problem with news. We think WWE is bad. They only got 10 hours to fill on PPV weeks. News media have sooooo many more to fill every week. As much as people want to hate to say it, these outlets love it when shit like this happens. They can milk it and there is demand from everyone in kind of a rubbernecking perspective. And he's right, the media does feed into these recluses becoming celebrities in a way. How they felt about things not only get known, but become news and almost immortalized. They can get the attention and platform in death that they could never get in life. No news outlet (major, American at least) is going to stop giving out info on the shooter. I am 10,000% sure on that.

I keep cycling through sadness, hopelessness, anger, and apathy. Added that I got canned at work yesterday, it's been a pretty tough time. Keeping chocolatiers employed though.

Given what happened in Vegas, I would be suprised if during the AL and/Or NL wildcard games, when we get to the 7th inning stretch, the performance of "God Bless America" gets televised. Fox didn't televise "GBA" performances during the World Series for the past couple of years except for one of the games of the World Series @ Wrigley last year before the Star Spangled Banner.

The YES broadcasts always show God Bless America, whether it's a live singer or a recording of Kate Smith's horrible version.

Monsters are always scarier the less you know about them. Facts and knowledge are steps towards being less afraid. The monsters become weak little insignificant men.

Newly leaked pics of the asshole after killing himself appear to have what looks like a note on a the desk next to his body. But nothing's been reported. This is one of the weirdest cases.
