I'm a little unclear on if he actually TOOK the pictures or if he just possessed them. If he took them then yeah, seven years is a bullshit non-punishment even with the payment, but if it's just something he had, while still an awful thing to do, then the $50,000 per victim part seems pretty harsh.

I don't see much point in commenting on the awfulness of the offense or the lightness of the term to be served, cos those kinda go without saying. The thing I want to know is what decade is this judge from to specify 'video arcade facilities' in the order? Are arcades even a thing anymore??

Maybe they’re not as abundant as they once were, but you can still find arcades in some areas. The boardwalk in Ocean City, New Jersey, for one. And some malls and amusement parks have a room with arcade machines, as well as those games of chance that you can win prizes from. The Dave & Buster’s restaurant chain has a big arcade area as well.

Arcades have actually been seeing something of a resurgence lately.

The thing I want to know is what decade is this judge from to specify 'video arcade facilities' in the order? Are arcades even a thing anymore?? They seem to still be somewhat relevant in resort areas. I went to Hampton Beach, New Hampshire four or five years ago to watch the Mighty Mighty Bosstones play in the ballroom of the Hampton Beach Casino. The casino is basically an all ages arcade as opposed to the gambling dens that is usually synonymous with the word. Anyways, I decided to kill time before the show by going into the arcade to indulge in some nostalgia of when my family had a trailer at a nearby campground and would go to Hampton Beach a lot, and the place seemed to be doing well. Now if the youngsters here would go to a local arcade when they're back at home and it doesn't have the novelty of something you did away on vacation is a different story. There's also the Funspot Family Fun Center in Laconia, New Hampshire. Much like the example of Hampton Beach, it's located near a beach town's Boardwalk (while the Hampton Beach Casino is on the boardwalk). It was featured in the documentary "The King of Kong". I have never been, but I would love to spend a week there, just for the arcade alone. Plus arcade cabinets tend to be pretty popular attractions in bars nowadays for nostalgic adults.

That's absolutely wretched. Also, plea deals for crimes like this are bullshit. If you watched videos of toddlers being raped, your life as a free person should be OVER.

His career is, that's for sure. But still, yeah, doing sick shit like this should get him locked away from society for the rest of his life.

Whether he took the pictures or "just" possessed them doesn't matter, what matters is that it happened to these poor, defenseless, children and he had a part in it. If people like him demand it, there are sick people who will supply it, which is what makes him guilty. $50,000 being "too harsh" is kind of mind blowing. No monetary value can fix what happened to these kids, saying any amount of money is too much is absurd. If anything, it's not enough of a compensation.

This sick bastard better pray they don't put him in general population. I hope the judge laughs at the plea agreement and he ends up sentenced to the full 20 years.

Yeah, and I bet that he doesn't even end up serving 7.
Ugh, the 20 wouldn't be enough.

What infuriates me is that, although I was given probation, I had 5 years over my head if I'd done something to mess up my probation. My charge was a non-violent drug charge. There are violent offenders and sexual offenders who are able to plead down to time similar to what I would have faced and, in a lot of cases, LESS time than I would have faced. At times it really gets me down that, in the eyes of the law I'm as bad as, or even worse than, a violent offender or sexual offender.

It doesn't matter one bit if he wasn't the one taking pictures as his actions make him a willing accomplice and enabler of shitheads who profit off the sexual abuse of children.

Too bad the judge isn't empowered to ban him from marrying a single parent. Which I believe is a frequent means of access to children.

Whatever prison sentence he gets his life is pretty much over.
A few years a go there was a guy who was relatively high up in my work who we all got on with and had tea break together. Long story short, he got busted with kiddie porn and obviously lost his job. The pictures he had were level 1 and 2 which is the lowest of the 5 levels, but ive no idea what that actually is. He got off with a suspended sentence but his face was plastered in the newspaper with the headline "THE FACE OF EVIL" along with the street he lived on and a description of his flat. Apparently his family didn't know until the media reported it.
I was saying to guys in work thar there is no redemption from this. You could be a bank robber in your youth but if you turn your life around you can still be a hero. Even drink driving, if you're truly remorseful, most people can kind a forgive you.
But this, youll always be hated and not trusted by friends or family. Yoyll always be a nonce.
