I am cautiously optimistic. Unless I am mixing this up with something else, the director of this pitched it to Fox by using actual comic panels, cutting and pasting them to make storyboards. If that's the case and this didn't get studio'd to hell, it'd imply an amount of affection for the source material, and outside of the shitty Fantastic Four movie, it isn't like horror is a direction most comic movies have gone in recent years. So, it's different, at least. Fox has been doing pretty decently on their mutant films. Apocalypse was a disappointment, but Days of Future Past and Logan were quite well received. Guess it remains to be seen where this will fall, but it helps the cast seems good. Has Stranger Things young Baron Corbin and Arya Stark.

This feels more like a bit of a bait and switch to me. Like this first trailer is going to look like this, but I'm betting its a real small part of the movie.
Could be wrong.

new poster for this one - I love the Nightmare On Elm Street Dream Warriors vibe this whole project is putting off. For a project like New Mutants a horror-skew to the film is a good move. spoiler'd fer size {Spoiler}

Wow. I wonder if this has to do with the Disney buying Fox?

Wow. I wonder if this has to do with the Disney buying Fox? The popular theory at the moment is that it's being delayed so it doesn't clash with other X-Men/Marvel releases, despite no other releases scheduled for April. More often than not it is a sign that a movie is complete garbage and they are going to reshoot a ton to fix it, or that the studio has no faith in it. February is traditionally a dump month, so it looks to me like Fox are taking a bath on this one.

Wow. I wonder if this has to do with the Disney buying Fox? That's actually a possibility. But not because of anything Disney might say. It'll take anywhere between 12 and 18 months before the sale is finalized. Fox might want to put this movie off so they have something, anything, to release in 2019 before the sale is final.

Was shuffling through a horror trailer compilation when this one came up. My reaction was "Why?" It looks like a bog standard teen slasher-type flick, though at least it looked more interesting than the other bog standard teen slasher-type flick in the compilation, Truth Or Dare.

It was reported that it won't affect New Mutants... but they already green lit 2 sequels which are probably dead. But Fox also greenlight Fant4stic 2 before it was released... and that movie ain't happening either so that doesn't really mean anything.

On a slightly unrelated note, if Black Panther does the numbers it looks like it's going to do, combined with the numbers Deadpool did (for an R-rated film, at that), I wonder if the perception of February as a dump month could change.

It's possible, though I think Marvel are now at the stage where they can release a movie at any point in the year and still take all the money.

That's a very valid point. As much as a push-back is usually the sign of a trainwreck, we're in a particularly unique situation here, and I imagine the top brass at Fox are looking to spend as little of their own money as possible between now and then. Fox isn't going to be greenlighting anything really big at the moment, I don't think.

They’ll probably get my money. I’m looking forward to spinning this into the same Marvel Universe as XMen and Daredevil and Avengers. (Yeah yeah, I know literalists are chomping at the bit to OCD correct me on that last sentence, but Marvel is supposed to be Marvel.) Jump scares are cliche and dumb, but I loved the baby snake line. I think it thematically is fresh and kind of a neat idea.

I've been seeing some people online say the reason for the postponement is that test audiences didn't find the early cut scary enough for a horror movie.
You know, I appreciate they want to do something different with the genre, but at the end of the day it is a superhero movie. How scary can you make a movie about people with super-powers? Friday the 13th worked because Jason was hunting normal teens at a summer camp, not the Teen Titans.
