I feel alot of people are missing the point of my original post. It wasn't to judge the original promo (although I've never liked it and it's things like that which kept my closest well and truly locked for several years). The post is because King recently spoke about the promo on his podcast, and he doesn't seem to get why it doesn't fly today other than brushing it off with 'ahhh political correctness!'

The “shorter” f word was one of Lawler’s go to insults for years down south. There’s a video on YouTube of him talking to Jimmy Valiant where he uses it and pops the crowd. He seemed to enjoy using the word. It got a reaction for him. It was a different era. There wasn’t social media and as much political correctness as there is now so people got away with a lot of inappropriate stuff years ago. I’m not defending him by any means. I’m fine with that word never being used again but are we going to constantly keep bringing up stuff that’s unacceptable now to bury everything and everyone in the past that we can? It seems to be going on a lot more often lately. Yes, I agree. In the future, humans will probably all end up being vegan. So the smarks of the future will look back to today and be like "The Rock and Stone Cold were both meat eaters. We shouldn't honor those barbarians!"

Some Guy: “So and so is a bad person because they watch reruns of Cheers!” Some Dude: “What’s wrong with Cheers? Seems like a funny show.” Some Guy: “Dude! Sam Malone is sexually harassing women on every episode! Have you seen the news?” Some Dude: “Woah! We gotta get that show banned from television!” Just playing around, but it feels like that’s where things are headed sometimes.

Well, it is though. The connotations of the word has changed because of political correctness. What else is it? People use a word that offends or hurts other people, the word falls out of favour, we find a new word.

I don't think many younger people really understand the differences.
Times were so much different back then. When I was a kid, the things parents, and we, did would hardly fly today. It's just a whole different world now. I have two brothers, one 6 years older, one a year younger, we are all in our 30's now, we grew up watching horror movies. Parents now have such a different opinion of horror movies, and are wayyyyyy more sensitive about the matter. In my days, a very young kid watching Friday the 13th was just another Saturday night, no one really gave a damn about kids watching gore and boobs in a horror movie.
I miss those days, so little to worry about. Now you just get a ton of soccer moms crying over every little thing.

I believe bad guys in any form of entertainment should be allowed to be bad people. It's fiction. The world outside is a f***ed up place with f***ed up people in it. If we don't acknowledge that in fictional stories, then everything just seems shockingly fake.
Now, with that being said, I don't support the use of racial or homophobic slurs by wrestling heels and here's why. Wrestling has a live audience, and sometimes they may be in a state where views in race and sexuality aren't very progressive. There stands a good chance that in some locations, a word like "faggot" would receive a babyface pop, and that is not something that should be allowed to happen. It's best not to create the opportunity.

I said “There’s a new John Lennon biography I’d like to read”. This would be 2007isj. John Lennon was murdered in 1980. I was born in 1983. The Beatles came to America in 1964. My grandpa said “Goddamn Beatles!!!! With their hair, can’t tell if they are boys or girls!” He was still pissed at them in the 21st century. After half them were long dead.

I'm not sure how to even comment in threads like these. There's lots of conflicting thoughts. I don't mind heels acting like despicable dicks because the world has those, and the real ones don't sugar coat things. I don't even mind them winning feuds after being despicable dicks because that happens in the real world all the time and you have to learn how to live with that. I also find the F word to be quite offensive while also thinking its misguided to judge the use of language decades ago with today's moral standards. Most of all, I'm exhausted with these discussions coming up everywhere these days.

It's not so much that this word wasn't bad(and you probably shouldn't say it on a wrestling show on national Tv) but it's that people get offended by everything nowadays and it's a generation overly pampered. We were forunate that we got to watch all this awesome stuff on TV uncensored with bad language and crazy images where our parents didn't mind or didn't get. While I'm looking at my nieces and nephews and how their parents basically thought that watching action movies were "too violent" and I'm sorry for them. I love the lawlessness that we grew up with.

He personally and professionally does not want chaos in his time now..Lawler isn't a changed man but a more focused one...I've interviewed him twice...He was stating that it was a different era...Cartoons, tv shows, movies, etc hightlighted the same situations a heel on a ultra progressive show stated...This is a man that never drinks alcohol, smokes etc..we can talk about the pedo crap later...Regardless he was not downplaying what he said but he in fact did say it and its a different time...We cannot rewrite spaghetti westerns or even james bond....no comparison but seriously if you are a person of ridicule that long when do you find strength?

my summation is that its not about grabbing your balls or lack their of its about pride in yourself who ever you are...man or woman...we lived in a testosterone environment and now its opened and thats absolutely okay...If we constantly get mad at every little insult who does that make us besides once again the ridiculed..Im not asking to be a heartless asshole but I also didnt go to IRAQ unwanted believe me to see everyone point fingers at each other...We are inheritable all dicks regardless of what or who you are...how you apply yourself separates you....

Jerry Lawler is one of the worst wrestlers I've had the dishonor of seeing in my life. Everything about him screams "lousy human being".
He was also an overrated commentator & wrestler. Seriously, I still don't understand why this forum went gaga over his 2015 heel run on SmackDown. He was just his usual godawful self.
Lawler & Ross have no credibility in my eyes.

We can all agree at least that vehicular violence in wrestling is always entertaining though, right? Stuff like that and HHH beating a handcuffed Daniel Bryan down while Steph screams "DROWN HIM!" is the kind of over the top heel shit I want to see more of.

I'm of two minds about it honestly.
On the one side, if a guy is playing a villainous character, then him espousing any foul thing should be within the realm of expectation. E.g: say someone's playing a Klansmen on an episode of Law&Order, you'd expect that actor to say some repugnant shit. It would be disingenuous otherwise.
On the other side though, wrestling alignments are so ever-changing that even the worst heels may have a face turn within a few months and be expected to be cheered. In that environment, maybe you don't go all the way into villainy because it's never gonna stick and then that eventual face will have just said some vile shit in the past.

Lord, I was born the day Macho Man became Macho King. If I was born ten years prior, I'd likely have a different opinion, but truth be told, I don't care for either guy. I may be biased due to how annoying I thought both were when I first started watching, but JR's extreme brownnosing and making excuses for laziness make him mean nothing to me.
