Eddie is talented and seems nice. But that's all he has. He's got the same issue Doug Furnas and Phil LaFon had in that they come off like powerful CAWs. He needs a character, badly. He does have a natural likeability and charisma but it doesn't project as well as it needs to in ring. As much as Davey has screwed him over the years too, the silver lining is that most people look better next to that douche. I felt the same way about Gargano and Ciampa when they came in, bland and indyriffic as hell but developmental worked wonders on them. I could see a similar turnaround for Eddie. I always felt Gargano had a bit of spark to his personality. Eddie could surprise me and develop his persona further, but he feels very plain right now. Still, who knows? Look at what some of the NJPW young lions became.

I know what I was saying and what I was saying was the once mighty WWE trying to get someone like EE is disappointing. Cause once upon a time they were trying to get stars. Not the latest dude that might get a spot on 205 Live. Whilst they were getting their Austins, Rocks or Undertakers (two of them almost didn’t happen), they were also getting their Scotty Too Hottys, their Crash Hollys and Steve Blackmans. People they could try to do something with and fill a spot needed on the card. Unless they actually thought WrestleMania was going to be headlined one year by Blue Meanie vs. Mideon in Hell in a Cell which in that case, they damn sure failed at that attempt. I’m not saying they shouldn’t be finding their next main event star. Their biggest issue is not making the people they have already someone people should be caring about because they want to keep REMINDING them they’re not going to be the next main event stat when that’s exactly one of the things driving people away for the last decade and a bit. But the Scotty Too Hottys and Crash Hollys were entertaining! They had something to offer other than being a good wrestler. And the only reason Blackman was ever in the WWF was cause he had a legit fighting background. He was bland as Hell too but it made up for it cause people believed he was a killer. There are too many EE in the WWE system.

Unless the dude has been hiding a personality somewhere in his boots, this is gonna be a hard pass for me.

Because if they can’t do that, then I don’t know what their jobs are to be honest. Scott Taylor didn’t just become Scotty Too Hotty and Michael Lockwood didn’t just become Crash Holly. With them and Blackman, they took a strength of a character and pushed that, something they can’t do to save their lives these days, instead showcasing weakness because a 70 year old man doesn’t like getting the best out of people these days, I guess. But again, none of those people were going to headline WrestleMania regardless of how entertaining or good they were...and there’s no problem with that. It doesn’t need to be a thing emphasised.

It might be hidden there....

Exactly this. And if WWE can make Ciampa and Gargano compelling characters, and bring some emotion to Roddy Strong, they can do something with Eddie. Hell, just get him and Roddy in their PWG douchejock gimmick and we're good. They could even throw a heft dose of "We're better wrestlers than all you gimmicks" in.

They clicked really well together and they’d be a big add to the tag division so why not? I’d argue it was Roddy doing his Dick champion gimmick in PWG that finally got him signed by WWE because it was him going further than any other time in his career and it absolutely clicking with the audience in the intended ways. Like, for all this talk of no characters, I always put a lot of blame on WWE for it. If you’re the same people who helped get guys like Jake Roberts, Ted Dibiase and Undertaker over with characters and now suddenly have no idea how to figure out how to craft a character from new talent, that’s something to be really concerned about.
