We are recording later tonight and I figured I'd try to get some discussion on a wrestler who is debuting. What did everyone think of Adam Bomb? I'm interested to see what your immediate thoughts were when he made his debut. I thought that the name was corny, but was initially impressed. He was a big guy but quicker and more agile than expected, and thought he looked like a badass with the long hair and beard. I could see him in the Bam Bam Bigelow roll of 'monster heel but not necessarily a top guy', but he never really caught on. Turning him face seemed like a desperate move - or a chance to sell more merchandise with those little foam bombs he'd throw to the crowd - but again, the crowd just wasn't into him. He had a cool look and was showed good athleticism especially compared to a lot of the other big guys. I thought his southern accent really hurt him as it didn't fit his look and gimmick and made him a lot less intimidating as a heel. Switching managers from Johnny Polo to Harvey Wippleman was the beginning of the end for him. Getting paired with Wippleman was the kiss of death for a heel in the mid 90's.

I'm about two thirds into the Beefcake episode, and he's doing his in ring comeback interview. Now, from 88 to 90 he was my favourite face. In 1993 the magic had gone, as was clear from this interview. However, you make reference to the phrase 'Go for it!'.
I'm glad you mentioned this, as I didn't recall it from the interview but do remember Vince saying it to Brutus in a sit down interview the following week. He wished him luck, shook his hand and said something along the lines of 'And as the Hulkster would say....go for it!'.
Man, even in 1993 this sounded out of place by at least five years! The company really didn't transition into the mid 90s well, did it?

This Tuesday, myself and Austin will be recording King of the Ring 1993. Just to give you an idea of how we post the shows, we've only published up to April 12th, 1993. He's moving to Florida later this week so we have several episodes in the bag before we won't be able to record for a few weeks before he gets adjusted.
Anyway, I hope some of you guys/gals share your thoughts or memories on the 1993 King of the Ring.
We are also recording two live watch episodes this Tuesday. We'll be watching SummerSlam 1992 (which has been requested a few times) and Superbrawl 1993. The Superbrawl show is to keep tabs on what's going on in a rival company since we will be doing Monday Night Wars when the time comes.
Thanks for listening everyone!

My own thoughts were/are that it was Bret Harts night, he put on 3 great matches all different from the other 2, with him and Perfect being the best match of the night. It really cemented him as my favourite wrestler as a kid. Looking back as an Adult i also think it should’ve/would’ve set up perfectly a match with Hogan (him beating Yoko) for the belt for Summerslam. Instead he gets bounced in with Lawler 😟I totally get why Bret told Hulk to you know what himself, I would’ve done so too.

Episode #17: WWF RAW 4/26/1993 - Austin has an announcement regarding an upcoming move and the future of ICOPOD! - WWF having success in England leading to a discussion about starting a company and where we’d start. - Is there actually a good Damien Demento match? - An odd segment where a young girl reads an essay about drugs alongside… the Undertaker - Throughout the show, it is teased that a man is going to propose to his girlfriend… Bobby Heenan has fun with that. Plus much more! icopod.podbean.com/e/episode-17-wwf-raw-4261993-raw-proposal/

The Rumble itsef is for sure a major dropoff compared to previous years, especially '92. I think you guys said as much during the podcast - 92 was such a good year that you could really see the difference in quality. Everyone hoped for a repeat and something just as good, but it wasn't to be. Hearing some of the entrants - Fatu, Skinner, Berserker, Virgil, Repo Man - it shows what poor shape things were in circa early 93. I know that you needed 30 men but some of the entrants are like 'Really?!!!'. Just caught up with this, not sure if intentional, but out of those 5 you mention as terrible Rumble participants, well 4 were in the 1992 version too.

Austin and Bob discuss everything leading up to the May 3rd, 1993 edition of RAW. The show features a title match when WWF Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michaels defends against Jim Duggan. The Kamikaze Kid (1-2-3 Kid) makes his in-ring debut against Doink the Clown. Plus there's a lot more to be discussed! icopod.podbean.com/e/episode-18-wwf-raw-531993-duggan-takes-on-hbk/

Just caught up with this myself, as I've been on holiday and haven't gone online! You're right, the last four were also in the 92 Rumble, but that had more star power within the form of Jake, Bulldog, Sid, Bossman, Duggan, Piper - there were more 'names' involved than there were in the 93 version.

Austin and Bob discuss the May 24th, 1993 edition of Monday Night RAW. The show features another showdown between Mr. Perfect and Doink as they attempt to qualify for the KOTR tournament. Plus, Razor Ramon is showing desperation to get a rematch with 1-2-3 Kid. Oh, and Adam Bomb makes his RAW debut. icopod.podbean.com/e/episode-21-wwf-raw-5241993-an-explosive-debut/

There's a new WWF IC Champion with a title change happening at a recent house show in Albany, NY. The main event features a tag match, but it has unlikely partners! Who can you trust? You can trust ICOPOD to discuss the June 7th, 1993 edition of Monday Night RAW, that's for sure! LISTEN HERE: icopod.podbean.com/e/episode-23-wwf-raw-671993-countdown-to-kotr/

I'm working my through the episodes and have just finished the 'March to Wrestlemania' one. Your description of the Megamaniacs and Crush interviews made me seek them out to see how bad they were.
They were even more gloriously bad than I could have imagined.
Thank you for highlighting them, they made my lunch hour! Keep up the good work, I'm really enjoying the episodes.

I'm enjoying them so much I went straight into the WMIX episode. I've only seen it the once, and that was the original broadcast. I thought it was a strange and below average card then, and think the same now.
From Jim Ross making his debut to Luna Vachon coming out with Shawn to the screwy finishes to the flat crowd to Hogan getting the belt (more on this later...) it just seemed like things were thrown together with no rhyme or reason. Wrestlemania used to be where feuds were concluded, but this was all so open ended and indecisive it just seemed, as you said during the episode, like the build up to Wrestlemania.
The Hogan/Yoko finish is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of this show. I started watching in 1987 when I was 12, and hadn't really liked Hogan; my friends all raved about him, but I always preferred the smaller guys like Savage or Steamboat, so Hogan's absence was very welcome. His 1993 comeback seemed out of place, as it had been good to see guys like Flair, Savage, Bret, Shawn and Bulldog put on some quality wrestling matches instead of brawls. Hogan didn't fit in around this time, especially with the emphasis on the tag titles. Why would fans get excited about Hogan vying for the tag title? He was never a tag title guy! The match with Money Inc was a joke with the referee jacket finish, and not what you'd imagine for Hogan's comeback match.
However....when Hogan appeared in the interview with Mean Gene before the Bret/Yoko match, alarm bells began to ring. Hogan and Bret are friends now? Really? I had a horrible feeling that somehow Hogan would wind up in the main event, but I never imagined he'd get the damn title! I was beyond pi***d off that he'd got the title again, as it was an insult to Bret and Yoko, and to some extent the fans. He'd been booed considerably at the 92 Rumble, which showed that fans had grown tired of him. Bringing him back and winning the title was just a slap in the face, and not the right move at all - as proved by him losing the belt at KOTR.
The most galling part of all this for me? I'm from the UK, and watched this live from midnight onwards. I stayed up until 3am just to see this nonsensical ending?!?! Screw you, Hulk Hogan!
