Legendary character actor, gonna miss seeing him randomly appear in stuff. I don't need to watch the video to know exactly what scene it is. I love it.

Legendary character actor, gonna miss seeing him randomly appear in stuff. I don't need to watch the video to know exactly what scene it is. I love it. One of my favourite stories about that movie was that Ermey was initially cast as John Doe due to Kevin Spacey's salary demands being too high for the studio, and his audition performance made Doe even colder and more monsterous than Spacey's. After Brad Pitt and David Fincher successfully lobbied to cast Spacey, Fincher sheepishly went to Ermey and offered him the much smaller role of the police chief, half-expecting to receive a Full Metal Jacket-style ass chewing. Instead Ermey simply shrugged and went "Yeah, I'll do it," as if being bumped from a headline role in a major studio release was no big deal.

"I bet you're the kinda guy to f*** a person in the ass and not have the god damn common courtesy to give him a reach around!" There's a neat story about this line. When Ermey said it the first time Kubrick said cut and then asked when a reach around was. Ermey then proceeded to tell him what it was. Kubrick busted out laughing and said that was staying in the movie. It should also be noted that Ermey was able to get a take in three takes or less with Kubrick. This was also the same director that had a notorious distinction of being a perfectionist and having actors doing the same scene over and over again. R.I.P. to a veteran and a great actor.

I remember me and my buddy going to see The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I don't think he was featured in the trailers, so we had no idea he was in it. The second he showed up on screen, we laughed, looked at each other, and said, "Yeah, this is gonna be awesome."
Sir! Rest in peace, sir!
