Could an nwa title win for him help to re-establish some credibility to the title

Cody having it would give that belt the most relevance it has in the last ten years. Lets hope Corgan isn't the usual idiot he is and actually makes a good business decision.

I mean... I guess...
the NWA really doesn't mean anything right now... and hasn't since TNA.... (and even then TNA's tv was boosting the NWA name not the other way around)
It hasn't been a big deal since the WCW split up in the 90's with it's big comeback attempt in ECW which well ... yeah
Cody having it at least means it'll be on RoH or New Japan showing it off... but I think more people would just assume it's some random indy title he's carrying around if they don't know what the NWA title was.

He'd be a worthy holder of it, even if I could see him not using it for super long.
Did the previous NWA owner f*** up the relationship, for what it was, that they had with NJPW when they had Kojima with the NWA title? Or would NJPW be okay with Cody trotting it out on their shows?

On the one hand,he would be the best champion since Christian, and the best non TNA guy since Shinya Hashimoto. In all honesty he would bring it the most notoriety since the days of WCW.
But.. Corgan is trying to build a show and a concept. Does he give Cody the title, and allow Cody to do with it what he wants? Essentially making it a prop for what Cody is doing?
I think IMO that Cody and the Young Bucks are making history and changing wrestling. If I were Corgan, I would jump in with them, cut out a little part, and enjoy the ride.

Pretty sure anybody watching or attending ROH would be familiar with the NWA title. And, despite being a joke for the better part of 25 years, the NWA title does still seem to carry a decent amount a prestige in Japan. As long as Corgan is willing to play nice with ROH and New Japan, then it’s a smart move to give Cody a long run with the belt and possibly launch his new NWA off of this run.

Honestly, it'd be slumming it for him more than anything else.

If Aldis is in it for the long haul, they’d probably be better off having a short feud and having him go over Cody.

I really think it's completely impossible to ever make the title mean anything. All it has going for it is virtually nonexistent connections to a bunch of legends decades ago and with no consistent platform or anything for it, it's basically impossible for it to even slightly mean something.

I'm sure they have designs on changing that, but the first step is building credibility. What i'm most surprised by in this is that after being involved in producing the biggest indie wrestling event in forever, Cody has decided to use his spot on it to wrestle a relative nobody for a title few care about. It's a real coup for the NWA and could be the start of a revival, especially if Cody has agreed to be involved on a longer term basis.

For nostalgia/storytelling purposes, a Cody reign would at least be compelling viewership.
Him holding the title his father held, that's a nice visual. Cody's really good with sentimentality.

I see it this way: If Cody wins it there's a chance he can make something of it. If he doesn't the title still won't mean a thing. I say give it a shot and see what Cody can do.

I understand why Cody wants it, but in the end, it won't be anything other than "neat trivia" on his scorecard. The NWA means less than nothing.

While the title would definitely benefit from his visibility, Aldis holding the title and beating legit opponents is probably their best option right now. Semi visible name who they don't need to worry about NJPW or WWE signing away. If Penta 0M, Shane Strickland, MJF are willing to do the job i'd be pouring that Corgan cash into trying to book them for future shows as well.

If Corgan can work out a deal to have Cody defend it at NJPW shows against NJPW talent (especially guys who aren't holding a singles title; eg : Sanada, KUSHIDA, Juice) or at ROH shows against guys like Kenny King and Colt Cabana (depending on how much he still wrestles), it can be built up, and maybe give Billy some inroads to really work with other burgeoning talent bases.
If they're really smart about it, they can also use this as a launching point for Billy to run some regular shows with some extra buzz in Chicago and throughout the Midwest, depending on how often ROH would let Cody appear.

Count me in on loving the idea of a Cody reign. He’s blossomed into a fantastic package of talent now. His dad was incomparable, but he’s charismatic in his own right. He deserves to hold the same belt Dusty did.

It can't exactly hurt the title by having Dusty's son hold it.
And then to have a potential feud with Omega or Okada or Jericho over it? Yeah that could potentially elevate it a touch.

He deserves to hold the same belt Dusty did. I agree with you in the abstract, but....it's really not the same belt Dusty held. When Dusty held it, it was, arguably, THE most prestigious championship in the wrestling world. Now, it's just an aging rock star's vanity project. It'd be neat if he could drag it up into something useful, but I have my doubts.
