Bret's gonna Bret. Even when he's right.
I'll give this 6 Bret's out of Bret.
Still love you, Grumpy Maple Syrup Grandpa.

Although why is he blaming them for Owen not being in the HOF when he should know it's on Martha Hart's request?

... does he legitimately believe that Owen not being in the Hall of Fame is a WWE call? Surely he knows Martha holds the lock and key over all of that stuff, right?

He's right about the storytelling.

Old, surly, no f***s left to give Bret Hart is one of the best things about modern pro wrestling.

He's right. The current roster are athletically gifted, but without character and storyline, it's all for nothing.

This week's NXT serves as proof of why long term storytelling works. The Pete Dunne vs Undisputed Era feud is so well booked and the crowd respond accordingly.
And of course Gargano vs Ciampa is the feud of the century in WWE right now.
The fans need emotional investment.

He’s right. They can’t tell stories anymore and they are great athletes, probably better. They all do the same moves, spots, it doesn’t matter who wins or loses. Nothing matters. It’s just a show on TV.

I mean on one hand Bret is one of the best storytellers in wrestling ever, on the other, the wrestlers aren't allowed to tell stories anymore. Bret working to laboriously lay out matches designed to accentuate both workers' strengths and creating something spectacular in the ring isn't allowed to happen anymore, because everyone's movesets are distilled down to the core pop-getting moves and some minor transitional stuff, while the match structure itself is usually just the same flow chart pattern over and over again. It's the same issue I have whenever Austin complains about people not "breaking out"; it seems anyone not currently deep within the day-to-day of the company seems unaware of how today's WWE doesn't allow people these freedoms or chances.

More guys need to just take f***ing risks IMO.
What are they gonna do fire them? they are so bent on hiring every gawd damn worker with a notable name that getting fired is pretty much impossible so I would use that knowledge to just do whatever the hell I wanted with whoever I am working with.

Is WWE not inducting Owen an ethical or legal question? Of course they wouldn't do it if Martha is against it for moral and (perhaps more importantly for them) publicity reasons. However, if they ignored that, could they do it? If they said they were inducting him, used the footage they already own for his package, and had someone like Bret induct him, could Martha stop it?

He's not wrong. The storytelling has been practically non-existent in WWE lately. The issue is that it's by design.
Vince's micromanagement of WWE has been on par with a narcissistic family patriarch whose family (the roster/Creative) has realized what's been going on and is now grey-rocking the hell out of his antics. A lot of them are working social media with side projects/hustles, while others are simply collecting a check and making the most of their time there before the contracts run out, all just happy to be there.
This is the monster of Vince's own making.

I don't think they can legally do it without Martha's permission. Contracts are involved in HoF inductions, so they would need Martha to sign.

Pretty much. They aren’t releasing anyone and they’re signing EVERYONE. Besides there are a lot of places to make good money Wrestling currently and anyone that’s even a semi-regular on WWE TV would have no problem finding work in the bigger indies promotions/Japan/Mexico. f*** it, just go wild guys. Still won’t matter though, because the writing is such complete and utter shit.

He’s spot on. Today’s wrestling is video game style. All flash, one high spot after another, no story. There’s clearly an audience for that but casuals will never buy into it. The story is what makes wrestling what it is.
