This is a Nickelodeon schedule from 1985. nickschedules.blogspot.com/2010/01/june-1985.htmlNotable for 5 straight hours of Pinwheel! I get that the number of shows they had access to was pretty slim at the time, but they couldn't have repeated some other shows in those 5 hours?

If you want a look at stuff earlier, I recommend Nick Knacks, which looks at every single show that aired on Nickelodeon (currently at 1981)

Oh that's cool, thank you for sharing! I didn't know about that. I just watched a few of them and they're very well made!

I'll trade 20 hours of Teen Titans Go for those five hours of Pinwheel, TYVM.

Pinwheel has to be one of the biggest cornerstones of a network that somehow fell into complete obscurity as soon as the channel shifted focus.
Even Nickoloden will highlight the Nicktoons occasionally; Pinwheel and most of the pre-90s shows (Double Dare excepted) might as well not exist for how much the network showcases them in any fashion.

Nickelodeon to me early on was Pinwheel, Danger Mouse, and You Can’t do that on Television! I loved the channel then (Double Dare helped later on).

I remember as a kid, trying to verbalize the concept of a "knock-off" when talking about Pinwheel and its relation to Sesame Street. And yet I loved Pinwheel. My family only had cable for a very short time when I was a kid but I loved these shows as kid circa 1987. Pinwheel, Today's Special, I even had a Danger Mouse doll. Most people I was friends with had no idea who he was.

Most of them weren't even owned by Nick, so I can see why. They got a LOT of programming from the outside in the 80s and some of the 90s. Looking at this schedule....The Little Prince (the anime series) was EVERYWHERE back then. Not only Nick, but I'm pretty sure the networks here ran it on Saturday mornings. And there was a Spanish dub as well. Pinwheel had a lot of shorts like that...Paddington Bear and Simon in the Land of the Chalk Drawings especially. You'd see both on Romper Room as well. Wasn't DM seen in syndication along with the Nickelodeon airings too?

I would totally buy a complete DVD set of Pinwheel just to be able to see the episodes again. That, and The Great Space Coaster.

Today's Special is notable for airing on Nick and PBS at the same time (at least in my area).

I guess I jumped on the Nickelodeon train a little after this. I remember plenty of You Can't Do That on Television, Mr. Wizard's World and Lassie, not remembering much else. I've heard of Turkey TV and know what it is, but I don't remember ever watching a single episode of it.
When I started watch I remember seeing in regular rotation some weird variety show starring Dave Coulier and a lot of Count Duckula.

Outside of Pinwheel, I think most of their material at this time was all imports (even Mr. Wizard was a Canadian show).

Pinwheel was the only Nick show I ever got into in the pre-Nicktoons era. Plus and Minus were my guys. A lot of my friends were into Today's Special and You Can't Do That on Television, but I never watched more than a couple episodes of either.

Pinwheel looked like if the Soviet Union tried to make their own version of Sesame Street.
Fun fact: the original name for Nickelodeon was The Pinwheel Network, as it was created to highlight this show.

I had no idea Nickelodeon was around in the 80s, the American version at least. Australia didn't get it until 1995.

Here's an interesting video about it:
