The compilation series releases its 100th volume today, 35 years since the first edition hit the shops. Now 1 is being re-released on vinyl for a limited time. Even with streaming music becoming bigger and bigger, the UK Now albums still consistently sell over a million copies with each release which is a pretty impressive figure. Since they branched out into other countries, I’d say there’s quite a few of us who had at least one of these albums in their house at some point. The music on them may not be to everyone’s taste but their success deserves a mention and although I haven’t bought a Now album in years, I hope they carry on.
Here’s the ad for the first one.

Because "Now That's What I Call Music I Could Have Downloaded Off The Internet And Burned Onto A Blank CD Myself" is too long of a title. :-P

My first album I got with my own money was Now 11, and my parents would sometimes get them as music for their birthday parties (July and November). You also had the Hits compilations, but they died out years ago.
While I've got no interest in getting any more of these albums, but it's nice they're still going as their longevity is still one hell of an achievement. Here's to many more Now albums.

Now 11 is a f***ing blinder. It’s got some great pop tracks (Heaven is a Place on Earth, Get Outta My Dreams, I Should be So Lucky) some good variety of artists (Morrissey, Whitesnake, The Mission) and Side Four is spectacular with it being dedicated to House music.

I bought the very first one (U.S. version) way back when and still have it. There's some garbage on there for sure, but looking back at the track-list, it's not outright terrible. I mean, where else are you going to find an album with Radiohead, Backstreet Boys, and Cherry Poppin' Daddies on it?

Yeah, should've clarified that in the original post. I was completely ignorant and didn't realize there were two different versions.

Good times.

I've just gone back to look at side 4; damn, what a selection! Beat Dis, The Jack that House Built, Doctorin' the House...the majority are one hit wonders, but they all sounded so new and refreshing. Again, good times.

I stopped buying them after Now 62 but I have every single volume before that. I also have the complete 10th Anniversary and Millenium sets as well as all the Now Dance editions from 1985-95. I even have the elusive Summer Album from 1985, which has a track listing that is hard to top (two Beatles songs!) and the rare Now ‘86 CD which is (to the best of my knowledge) the only CD in existence to contain Everybody Wants to Run the World by Tears for Fears. It’s not even on any of their various greatest hits compilations.

My first one was Now 44, which is the best-selling edition from what I've read. It had Baby One More Time and all the best 1999 cheesy pop.
The creator was interviewed on the news tonight and they asked if he thought the franchise would make it to Now 200. He was kind of glum about it and said they'd be lucky to make it to Now 125 in the current music climate 😅
