The Wii was the best seller of it's generation by far And the DS is legitimately like the best or second best selling console ever (I believe the Ps2 and DS are neck and neck in that category) The Switch is also selling like gangbusters still. Also don't know the OP needs to make a topic every few months talking smack about Nintendo... but ok. Wasn't talking about sales. SNES-Slower than the Genesis. N64-Went with Carts instead of CDs. Which caused developers to not make N64 games. Gamecube-Went with mini discs instead of CDs or DVDS. So hurt sales. Wii-The system sold great. But how many people bought one and used it for Wii Sports and Netflix and nothing else. As far as handhelds Nintendo has been great and not behind on them. Since the SNES I haven't bought any Nintendo home console until it was majorly discounted. But have bought most of their handhelds the day they came out. Other than processor speed, the SNES was roughly equal to the Genesis in power.

Actually only the CPU speed of the Mega Drive/Genesis was higher than the SNES. Everything else spec wise, the SNES was superior, especially in the graphic department.

Yup, and even its slower processor was actually more capable than the MD/Genesis' - the MD/Genesis' processor required eight clock cycles to compute an instruction, while the SNES' required just two or three, meaning the MD/Genesis' processor could compute a maximum of 900,000 instructions per second, while the SNES' topped out at around 1.7 million. So the SNES has a lower clock speed, but it could perform almost twice as many instructions per second.

While their consoles have been sorely lacking in 3rd party support, as a lifelong Nintendo fan, I'm usually pretty happy sticking with their first-party titles. The Wii and Wii U might not have had the libraries that that previous consoles had, but their Mario and Zelda games were enough for me to justify buying the consoles.
I'm not the target demo for most modern games. I don't like FPS games. I don't play online at all. And I don't really care for games that demand hundreds of hours to finish. So the steady stream of Mario, Zelda, Smash, and other First Party games is more than enough for me.

They haven't updated their playing cards in like forever.
Don't forget what brought you to the dance Nintendo! Don't!

I would say everything besides first party franchising.

Nintendo is better than they have been. They finally got rid of region locking with the Switch, they have successful mobile games, and allow cross-play with Microsoft.
Also, the Switch has a share button.

Honestly after playing Smash and Splatoon online. I think the netcode for nintendo games are pretty amazing.
Also the Switch is by far the most comfortable console/controller to use, it is so smooth in everything ,it makes no noise(looking at you X-Box One controller). And the quality for the Switch Screen is honestly great.(A 1000x better than the Wii U plastic toy controller)
Their UI is also much ahead of the ps4(I hate using the ps4 menu),The Switch and 3ds have a very compact menu screen with easy and quick access.
Their console are also usually much more durable, god knows how many times I dropped my 3DS and it still works perfectly.
Nintendo might not have ALL the features X-Box One and ps4 have. But they also give so much polish to what THEY have that I can't help but appreciate then. Even small things like the sound the switch controller makes when you dock the joystick is satisfying.

Actually only the CPU speed of the Mega Drive/Genesis was higher than the SNES. Everything else spec wise, the SNES was superior, especially in the graphic department. And anyone who knows anything about CPU's can tell you that clock speed is overrated as a measure of overall performance.
Like the Gamecube had the slowest stated CPU clock speed between it, the PS2, and the Xbox, but the GC CPU had a more advanced and efficient architecture in its CPU. So in terms of performance, it was superior to both the PS2 and Xbox.
The GC's hardware also made load times almost trivial on the system when they were still an issue on the Xbox and especially the original PS2's. The only downside to the GC hardware (besides the mini-discs being proprietary and smaller in overall storage than a DVD) was its inability to be a multimedia platform outside of Japan. But then Nintendo wanted the GC to be first and foremost a game console. Its lacking in DVD playback also helped keep the price down compared to its competitors.
I'd also say the cartridge format of the N64 wasn't the problem itself for the N64, but rather a symptom of a much larger problem at the time: Nintendo and President Yamauchi's unrestrained arrogance and mistreatment of its third party partners. The entire reason the PSX even existed is because they put the kibosh on their joint SNES-CD project (codenamed Playstation) with Sony and screwed them big time. N64 sticking to cartridges was Nintendo saying "We're stubborn in our ways and you'll continue to make games for us anyway because you can't survive without us." Then Sony came along with the PSX, which was priced to be affordable to the typical consumer (unlike previous CD-based systems) and its CD-ROM format allowed for significantly cheaper production of games along with much crisper audio and full motion video.
But if Nintendo maintained a good relationship with its business partners, they would've stuck with Nintendo through the N64's drawbacks, or at worst produce a lot more multiplatform games. But Nintendo was its own worst enemy during the mid-late 90's and we STILL see the fallout from that to this day.

They're not behind, they're just letting other companies have a wee shot at the throne.

This thread is the first time I've ever heard someone say that the SNES hardware was "behind" the Genesis. What? Is this serious or a bad attempt at humor?

The main menu, the shop, whatever it is, it's just so absurdly sparse and I hate the way it just has all your shit piled together with no way to organize any of it. Granted it's not like the PS4 is great either, but at least it has folders. After like three years worth of patches, anyway. Also I actually really don't like the Switch's controls, at least going off the Joycons since that's all I've actually used. The sticks seem way too prone to drifting and I find their shape awkward. Really I find the Gamepad more comfortable than I do the handheld Switch. And the D-pad is horrifically bad.

Haven't really bought a Nintendo console since the Wii. Can't really say I regret the decision too much...

The Switch pro controller is nice, but I don't really care for the Joycons.

The Switch pro controller is nice, but I don't really care for the Joycons. I remember I was like "70 bucks for a controller? LOL" Then my wife bought me a pro controller for the Switch. It's so damn solid. It's silent. I swear it's got a little nuclear reactor for a battery because I plug it in maybe once a month. I hope the switch pro controller ends up being the benchmark standard for every other console going forward (it won't). It's a damn good 70$ controller. It's like the different between a 2 dollar steak and a dry aged ribeye

But i find the Shop UI is much better. The 3DS e-shop is hell to search and navigate

Anything that doesn't fit into one of the available categories just turns into, "f*** you, look at the website. Which is also terribly designed."
