And Joey Styles frigging sucked. He was the announcer version of a "spot monkey"--fans at the time loved him because he knew what a huracanrana was and called out Big Two announcers becaus they didn't. But he was horrible at every other aspect of announcing. Specifically, he was the worst telegrapher of ALL TIME. Lots of announcers do shtick like declaring, "A new champion!" or "It's over!" right before a big kickout, but Styles was absolutely the worst at predicting something and then acting all shocked and aghast when the exact opposite happened. I can't tell you how many angles and moments he killed for me because he declared something was going to happen, which immediately tipped me off that the opposite would. He killed Tanaka kicking out of the 3D, angles involving Beulah-Luna, and too many other instances to count.

Rod Trongard and Lord James Blears....they never get mentioned, but they helped give the AWA a "sports vibe" feel during their Showboat run on ESPN. I get why people dump on Rod, but dude had enthusiasm and brought excitement to a promotion that needed it. Here's what I want to know.....were Rodger Kent and Rod Trongard the same person? Related?

I am not necessarily saying his the greatest one mentioned by I used to enjoy Dr. Tom Prichard, who did Superstars in 98-99 here in the UK (don't believe he did the US one) regularly alongside Gorilla Monsoon (maybe some could argue anybody could have good chemistry with Monsoon though)

Not sure if he's underrated, but Mr. Perfect was gold back in the day. His commentary on the Jake Roberts-Jerry Lawler match at Summerslam had me drinking and I don't drink.

Charlie Pratt and Les Thatcher in Southeastern are really good. If they've ever blown a gasket, it meant something.

Lance Catamaran. I still can’t believe he didn’t get picked up by WCW after Southpaw closed.

Larry Zbyszko he was actually a very good commentator and he would talk about the holds and how they were painful and he was witty to.

Don West and David Crockett for similar reasons. Don't get me wrong--both SUCKED as wrestling commentators, but both were great at getting over the excitement of the moment--West because of his sales background and being naturally over the top, and Crockett because of his lack of training and polish, you could still feel the passion in his voice.

I kinda liked when one of the Usos was a commentator for a couple of months. It was hilarious when The Bella Twins were screwing over his cousin and his wife, and he didn't give a damn.

I've shit all over David Crockett in the past, and that may not change. He's irritating as hell. But I do respect that he's been in the ring, so he does have SOME insight on how holds and moves are applied and hurt like hell.

I always laugh when he cuts Tony off mid-sentence before some big move (big for 80s standards) just to say, "Watch this, Tony...." then a long silent pause....
