NWA TV on Syndication Quick Results 2/15/12 - Jerry Lynn explains his heel turn last week in a pre-taped promo, basically saying that he’s sick of people treating him like he’s washed up and acting like he’s just supposed to “hand” the torch over to the first kid with a good look and a decent headlock. “If Gargano wants that torch, he’s gonna have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands!” - April Lee wins a 4-Corners match also featuring Ivelisse Velez, Jacquline Moore, & Nikki Roxx. A Shining Wizard to Moore earns Lee the W. - C&C Wrestle Factory (Cedric Alexander & Caprice Coleman) get some rare promo time, hyping up their upcoming match against The Party. - C&C make good on their pre-match shit talk by defeating The Party with a Super Hurricarana/Frog Splash combo - RAIN confronts April Lee backstage, challenging her to a match next week. - The husband and wife duo of Ryan & Madison Eagles fell victim to a Hart Attack from The Hart Foundation (Teddy Hart & Nattie Neidhart) in an intergender tag match. - We get a video highlighting Hurricane Helms’ path to recovery as he rehabs from his arm injury. In the video, Helms addresses the man that put him on the shelf, Low-Ki. “Enjoy your glory for now because as soon as I heal up, I am going to personally make you pay for deceiving not just me but all the Hurriboys and Hurrigirls around the world with your wicked ways.” - BC is pinned for the second time in as many weeks after Keith Hansen plants him with a Chokeslam. -Peter LaSalle offers his managerial services to Paul Burchill who, much like Zach Sabre Jr, says he’ll think about it. For now, however, he wants LaSalle out of his face while he prepares for his upcoming match. - Drake Younger picks up a big singles win after hitting Paul Burchill with Drake’s Landing. - To close out the show, Commissioner Adam Pearce announces in a pre-taped video that Austin Aries vs. Randy Orton will happen for the first time ever at this month’s PPV, Rise Above on the 26th. The show will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana.
NWA Wrestling [73%] Episode #29 2/18/12 TAPED in Cincinnati, Ohio Attendance: 604 - This week’s show starts out with a tense confrontation between Tyler Black & The BLKOUT. Adam Pearce is here to facilitate the negotiations as both Black and Lethal put their signature on a contract for an NWA World title match on the 26th. Since the NWA held up their end of the bargain, the BLKOUT were expected to return the world championship to it’s rightful owner but that doesn’t end up happening as the BLKOUT instead mug the champion and leave him laying once again. Pearce calls for security to apprehend the rudos but Lethal and his men flee the scene before help can arrive. [82%] 1. After several weeks of round-robin competition, the field has narrowed to four competitors in the NWA Women’s Championship tournament. We get the first of two semi-finals matches as the #2 seed from Block A, Mercedes Martinez, takes on the #1 seed from Block B, Cheerleader Melissa. Both women are evenly matched on the mat but Martinez has a clear advantage in the strike game, rocking Melissa with body kicks. Martinez just can’t connect with the Fisherman Buster, however, as her second attempt results into a Bridging Northern Lights Suplex from Melissa. Martinez gets the shoulder up but is immediately dragged to her feet for a Kudo Driver! 1-2-3! Cheerleader Melissa moves onto the finals on the 26th. Great opener and one of the better TV matches of the year. [***½]- Backstage, we get a post-match promo from Cheerleader Melissa where she assures us that it doesn’t matter if she has to face Nattie Neidhart or Gail Kim. The Kudo Driver is putting one of them down on the 26th so she can become the NWA Women’s Champion. [68%]- In another part of the backstage area, we got more drama from the camp of Armando Alejandro Estrada. His clients appear to be at each other’s throats as they are screaming at each other when cameras pop into the locker room. KENTA outright demands a match with Rocky Romero for tonight but Armando immediately puts the big negatory on that one. Instead, he wants the two to focus on being a unit and rising up the tag ranks. Neither man seems thrilled with that idea but they both reluctantly agree out of respect for their handler. [78%] 2. In a First Blood rematch from last month’s iPPV, Drake Younger and Bad Bones go to war once again. Younger does a better job of holding his throughout the match, repeatedly firing off shots to the German’s head in an attempt to draw blood. In the end, however, it’s the use of barbed wire that earns Bones the win as he wraps it around his boot before murdering the Naptown Dragon with a Big Boot. [**¾]
- Stellar Ninja Force get a pre-taped promo hyping up their tag title shot against the Switchblade Conspiracy on the 26th. The team earned this shot by defeating the soon-to-be champs on NWA’s syndicated programming prior to Mox & Sami winning the straps. Typical “rah-rah” stuff as Trenton points out that while they didn’t want to face a weakened Super Smash Brothers, they have no problem taking out trash like Calihan & Moxley. [61%] 3. Time to see who will face Cheerleader Melissa in the finals as Gail Kim battles the undefeated Nattie Neidhart. Nattie is shadowed by her cousins and fellow Hart Foundation members, Teddy Hart & DH Smith, but the odds are evened up early into the match when Ryan & Madison Eagles come out. After a brawl breaks out on the outside, the ref sends everybody to the back in a desperate attempt to regain order. In the middle of all this madness, Nattie tries to roll up Kim in the ring but the crafty vet rolls through. Eat Defeat! Kim hooks the leg and gets the three! Gail Kim has a chance to make history on the 26th by being the only woman to hold the women’s crown in WWE, TNA, and the NWA. [*¾]4. In preparation for his upcoming match against Jeff Hardy on PPV, Derrick Bateman defeats Robert Anthony in what has to be considered a bit of an upset. To Bateman’s credit, the win is totally clean as he plants Ego with a stiff Uranage for the win. Not much to else to say here. [**½]
- We get a match graphic letting us know that due to the shady circumstances under which Low-Ki retained the TV title last week, Jimmy Rave will receive another shot at gold on the 26th. We also get a short pre-taped promo from the challenger where he talks about learning from past mistakes and not allowing Ki to sneak away with the title again. [68%]5. The score is 2-1 in the “Best of 5” series between Johnny Gargano & Jerry Lynn as we head into Match #4 as this evening’s main event. Gargano has a chance to close the show tonight but Lynn is looking to force sudden death. Much like their previous matches, this one kicks all sorts of ass as each man shows off new counters in their moveset, building off the past encounters. The two wind up brawling on the outside when Lynn muscles Gargano up and slams him down ribs first onto the guardrail! The Ohio native is in agony as he writhes in pain on the black mat. The ref’s count reaches 20 as Lynn is awarded the victory via count out! After the match, the ref throws up the infamous “X” signal as it’s clear that Gargano is badly hurt. Lynn couldn’t care less, however, as he flexes for the hoes in the ring while medical staff attend to his opponent at ringside. [***¾]
- There’s a lot of ego in the ring as Randy Orton and Austin Aries meet face-to-face on the Chuck Taylor Show as build for their upcoming PPV match. Long story short, they talk hella shit to each other as Taylor stirs the pot as he usually does. This time around, however, the instigating backfires as Aries snatches the host up for a Brainbuster! When Aries get to his feet, Orton goes for the RKO but Aries is able to push out of it, prompting “The Viper” to bail from the ring and retreat up the ramp. The show comes to an end with both men still running their mouths, each one promising victory at Rise Above. [90%]

- Brian Cage cuts a promo backstage, showcasing him lifting lots of heavy shit backstage.
- The scheduled match between Zach Sabre Jr. & Paul Burchill never got underway as Peter LaSalle stepped in between both men and implored them to become a team under his guidance instead of fighting each other. Both men look uneasy at first but surprisingly, both shake hands with LaSalle and follow him to the back.
- We get a hype video for the main event on this week’s VH1 show. Jeff Hardy, Robert Anthony, & Tyler Black team up in trios action to take on The BLKOUT.
- DH Smith overpowered Ryan Eagles for most of their match but was blinded by a fireball from the Aussie while his wife Madison distracted the ref. The Headlock Driver followed and earned Eagles the win.

- RAIN defeated April Lee with the Acid Drop
- A video focused on Austin Aries training for his match with Randy Orton on Sunday aired.
- Jerry Lynn & Low-Ki gained some momentum going into their respective PPV matches against Johnny Gargano & Jimmy Rave after defeating them in a tag match. A roll-up with a handful of tights allowed Lynn to pin Gargano, who worked this match with bandaged ribs. .
NWA Wrestling [72%] Episode #30 2/25/12 TAPED in Cincinnati, Ohio
- This week’s show starts out with some mystery as Robert Anthony is found laid out backstage. Nobody knows who did it but it seems pretty clear that Ego will be unable to compete in tonight’s six-man tag main event! [72%]
1. Despite coming off a rare win in NWA competition, C&C Wrestling have to be considered the underdogs as they stood across the ring from KENTA & Rocky Romero. To their credit, they clearly brought their A-game as they put the heels on the backfoot, dropping Romero on his head with a German Suplex/Superkick combo. [***]
- After commercial, Drake Younger is in the ring with a mic as he demands Bad Bones & Father James Mitchell come down to the ring. The sinister pair soon appear on the ramp as Mitchell sarcastically asks Younger how many stitches did it take to close up that nasty cut on his head last week. The Naptown Dragon brushes the comment off before issuing a challenge for a Last Man Standing match tomorrow night at Rise Above. Mitchell quickly accepts and we have another match scheduled for the PPV. [64%]
2. Randy Orton squashes Shark Boy in a super short match. Within 3 minutes, Orton had his opponent wrapped up in the ropes for his signature DDT. That’s enough to get him the three but The Viper decides to hit an RKO on poor Sharkie after the match just for funsies. Good showing for the former WWE champion going into his PPV match against Austin Aries. [**]
- Backstage, Tyler Black & Jeff Hardy are discussing what to do in their upcoming six-man match with their third man out of action, Right on cue, Keith Hansen walks in and offers to replace the incapcitated Ego. With no better alternatives available, Black & Hardy agree. [67%]
3. Jon Moxley literally drags his tag title on the ground as he comes down for his match with Trenton Locks. This is a clash of styles as Moxley is primarily a brawler while Trenton is more of a technician. Despite that, we get a fun, competitive match that doesn’t have a real ending. Locks & Moxley start brawling on the outside when their respective partners jump in. Knowing that chaos has taken over this one, the ref has to call it a no-contest as security geeks try to separate the two teams. [**¼]
- We get shown a pre-taped video of the contract signing that took place earlier today between Cheerleader Melissa and Gail Kim to make their NWA Women’s Championship match official. Melissa mentions that she actually respects Kim but she also knows that she’s better than Kim. She’s beaten Kim once and knows that she’ll beat the former Knockouts Champion again tomorrow. On the other side, Kim says that she’s been studying her loss to Melissa heavily and believes that she has figured where she went wrong. Tomorrow night, she’s going to avenge her previous and simultaneously be crowned the NWA Women’s Champion. Not a bad segment at all. [71%]
4. Knowing that his opponent was coming into the match with taped-up ribs, Chuck Taylor seems extremely confident going into his match with Johnny Gargano. He’s so confident that he cuts a lengthy pre-match promo and makes a spectacle out of taking his pre-match jacket off. Chuckie T is so wrapped up in himself that he seemingly doesn’t hear the bell ring to officially start the match. He pays dearly for it as Gargano quickly goes behind him and connects with Hurts Donut! Within seconds, this one is over. After the match, Gargano cuts a promo, saying that Jerry Lynn better break a few more things than a couple ribs if he wants to keep the rising star down for three tomorrow. [N/A]
- Derrick Bateman flexes for the hoes in a pre-taped promo, mentioning that tomorrow will be the biggest moment of his young career when he knocks off the legendary Jeff Hardy.
5. Jay Lethal still has the physical world title over his shoulder as he comes down with Ruckus & Blk Jeez for tonight’s main event. Of course, Xavier Creed shadowed the trio at ringside. Tyler Black may have been outnumbered when he got laid out last week but he’s got backup in the form of Jeff Hardy & Keith Hansen this week. Tyler clearly wants to get his hands on Lethal but the BLKOUT leader is always quick to tag out to one of his lackeys if he needs assistance. Hardy & Hansen get in their shots but Black decides to take matters into his own hands when he does a Plancha onto a crowd of bodies on the outside! When Black arises from the pile, he’s sent right back down by a Superkick from Lethal! “The Cornerstone” tosses the champ into the ring before cartwheeling off the ropes. Killshot! Three seconds later, Lethal had pinned the world champion! This is the first time that Black has been pinned in the NWA and you gotta think this gives the challenger a psychological edge going into tomorrow’s title match. [***¼]

NWA News & Notes 2-26-12 By Darius Stone
- Thanks to the company’s recent growth and the exposure they’ve received thanks to the VH1 deal, the NWA is living up to its name as the company can officially be considered a National promotion.
- While there are many upsides to this growth, a downside is that the NWA is now actively seen as a threat by promotions of similar size. Remember when Starrcade was held in Houston back in December? Well, it turns out that AAA was planning to expand into the US. In particular, they decided to run a show in San Antonio. “When?”, you might ask? On December 18th, the exact same date as Starrcade.
By all accounts, the AAA show bombed in terms of attendance and the owner is pointing the blame right at the NWA for taking away their business by running such a large show in close proximity. Ever since then, AAA has considered the NWA as active competition. CMLL, with their recent growth, also considers the NWA to be a competitor. THE WAR IS ON~!
- There have been some questions regarding why the Super Smash Brothers dropped the tag titles on such short notice to the Switchblade Conspiracy recently on NWA TV. Dos legitimately injured his arm during the team’s tag title win but initially was going to work through the pain. After a couple days, the injury got significantly worse, requiring Dos to undergo surgery. The surgery won’t keep him out of action for long (2-3 months roughly) but the company needed to get the titles off the babyface duo ASAP and booked the angle on TV to build sympathy for the SSB’s eventual chase to win the tiles back.
- A last minute stipulation has been added to the Johnny Gargano vs. Jerry Lynn match on tonight’s Rise Above PPV. The winner will receive a Television Championship match at next month’s PPV, the annual NWA Anniversary Show.
- Speaking of next month’s PPV, expect the show to be headlined by a Royal Rumble style match. The winner of the match will headline the following month’s PPV in a world title match.

0. We get a better pre-show match than usual this month as Primo Colon & Richie Steamboat are able to keep pace with KENTA & Rocky Romero. Amazingly, KENTA & Romero work well for most of the match but things fall apart near the end when “Azúcar” accidentally blasts his partner in the face with a Springboard Dropkick. Isolated, Romero quickly falls victim to a Vertical Suplex/Crossbody combo and is defeated. After the match, the Cuban is hot at KENTA despite the fact that it was actually Romero who f***ed up. Rocky gets uppity with the NOAH star before being lifted onto KENTA’s shoulders! GTS! Armando Alejandro Estrada is screaming in despair and goes to check on Romero while KENTA leaves the scene. The fans reacted big to KENTA’s babyface turn. [***]
RISE ABOVE [82%] February 26th, 2012 LIVE from Indianapolis, Indiana Attendance: 5,040 Announcers: Steve Prazak & Peter LaSalle
Match #1 NWA Women’s Championship “Future Legend” Cheerleader Melissa vs. Gail Kim What better way to start out the PPV broadcast than to crown a new Women’s Champion!? These two met in the round robin portion of the tournament with Melissa coming out top. Kim is determined to make sure that tonight’s match ends differently as she lays into Melissa early on with elbows to the jaw. Melissa regroups and takes the match down to the mat, working over Kim with restholds and stretches. She nearly forces Kim to submit on a couple of occasions but Gail is able to weather the storm before forcing her way back to a standing base. A Wheelbarrow Victory Roll-Up nearly keeps Melissa’s shoulders on the mat for three before she’s booted in the gut. Eat De-NO! Melissa spins Kim around. Blue Thunder Bomb! 1-2-Kim kicks out! The self-proclaimed “Future Legend” tries to stay on the offensive with a Bicycle Kick but the veteran Kim ducks under it. German Suplex! Both women sell on the mat for a bit before Kim connects with a Step-Up Enziguri! Melissa has to be seeing stars as Kim snatches her arm and gets all of her second Eat Defeat attempt! 1-2-3! Gail Kim is the new NWA Women’s Champion! “You deserve it” chants come raining down as the queen of the women’s division is handed her crown. [**¼]
Match #2 NWA World Tag Team Championship Stellar Ninja Force vs. The Switchblade Conspiracy © Tag gold is on the line as Jon Moxley and Sami Calihan make their first defense of the titles they won from the Super Smash Brothers (albeit, in a handicap match). Trenton Locks & RV1 are looking to justify their relatively new team with championship success. This match doesn’t go very long but it’s all action from start to finish. The champs initially overwhelm their challengers with their frenetic pace but Locks turns the tide with a couple Suicide Dives. RV1 tries to capitalize with a Springboard Bulldog in the ring but Mox is able to kick out. A blind tag allows Sami to get involved as he nearly knocks RV1’s head off his shoulders with a Lariat. A Cactus-Jack style Piledriver gets a close two but the tandem Spike Piledriver that follows gives the champs the win. About as good of an eight minute match as you’ll ever see. [***¾]
Match #3 Last Man Standing “Modern Armageddon” Bad Bones (w/ Father James Mitchell) vs. “The Naptown Dragon” Drake Younger I hope you are ready for a brutal, weapon-filled, psychology-deficient stunt show because that’s what we get here. These two men are 1-1 in their previous encounters and neither one wants to lose the tiebreaker. The big story in this match is that Younger does all sorts of wild moves to Bones but each time, the German rises to his feet before the count of 10. A Con-Chair-To? Seven count. Drake’s Landing off the top rope? Eight count. A second Drake’s Landing on the outside? Somehow, only a seven! The Naptown Dragon has to beat a couple of 10-counts of his own, just barely avoiding defeat after being Gorilla Press Slammed onto the steel steps on the outside. The proverbial crimson mask is on Younger’s face as Bones literally bites into his forehead, seemingly enjoy the taste of his opponent’s blood. Mitchell is cackling at ringside as Bones sizes Younger up for a Big Boot. Bones comes running but he’s stopped dead by a chair being thrown at his head! A DDT on the chair isn’t meant to win the match so much as it is to give Drake time to set up two chairs upright. Drake’s Landing onto the chairs! Third time’s the charm as Bones is finally kept down for the 10 count. Younger can barely walk out under his own power but he’s still the last man standing. [**¾]
Match #4 Sudden Death (Match #5 in Best-of-Five Series) Winner Receives NWA Television Championship Match at NWA 64th Anniversary Show “Aces” Johnny Gargano vs. “The Living Legend” Jerry Lynn
When Adam Pearce first announced the best-of-five series between the veteran Jerry Lynn and rising star Johnny Gargano, many expected for the series to produce some strong matches. While that ended up being true, nobody expected Jerry Lynn to undergo an attitude change that resulted in him cheating to win his first match and injuring his opponent to win the second. Much like he did on TV in the past week, Gargano is wrestling with taped up ribs here. Lynn takes advantage of the injury immediately, stomping away at the damaged body part before drilling Gargano with a Powerbomb. The Cleveland native fights underneath for a few more minutes before he’s able to cut Lynn off before his opponent can dive from the top rope. Johnny snaps off a Hurricarana and starts gaining momentum, stringing together a series of moves before going for Hurts Donut. Lynn counters with an arm drag before “accidentally” shoving the ref out of view. Low blow to Gagano! Cradle Piledriver! Lynn hooks the leg but Gargano gets his shoulder up! “The Living Legend” is in disbelief that Gargano kicked out and seems unsure of what to do next. Relying on what he knows best, he hooks Johnny up for another Cradle Piledriver but Gargano back drops out of it. Lynn comes rushing in but eats a knee to the jaw! Hurts Donut! 1-2-NO! Gargano immediately transitions into the Garga-No-Escape! Lynn fights and fights but after a long struggle, he meekly taps out. Best match of the series and one of the best we’ve ever had. [****¼]
Match #5 Special Challenge Match “Mantastic” Derrick Bateman vs. “The Charismatic Enigma” Jeff Hardy
There’s been a ton of big move kickouts on this show so this match was structured in a way to give the crowd a chance to breathe. Very meat and potatoes match that’s carried by Hardy’s popularity. Looking to make a name for himself, Bateman takes control of the early goings, overpowering his smaller opponent and working him over with chinlocks. Jeff battles his way back into the match with a Whisper in the Wind before being taken back down with a stiff forearm smash. A Uranage attempt from Bateman turns into a Crucifix Pin from Hardy before “Mantastic” takes a Twist of Fate. The Swanton Bomb followed and so did the three count! Bateman didn’t look bad considering this was his biggest match to date. [**½]
Match #7 NWA Television Championship “Fine Like Wine” Jimmy Rave vs. “The World Warrior” Low-Ki ©
A few weeks ago, Jimmy Rave challenged Ki for his TV title in Louisville. Thanks to some underhanded tactics, Ki retained but Rave gets another chance at glory here. Both men are pretty familiar with each other at this point and it shows as they bust out counters not seen in their previous encounter. Throughout the match, Rave repeatedly goes for Ghanarhea but Ki is able to escape each time. Ki causes his challenger’s face to sport all sorts of bruises with his stiff slaps and reddens Rave’s chest with his kicks. As he does so well, Rave endures the punishment until he sees his opening. Finally, it comes when the champion takes a bit too long getting back in the ring after throwing Rave in first, When Ki enters, Rave quickly snatches him up and connects with Ghanarhea! The ref’s count barely reaches one when the bell rings. Rave is very confused before hearing that this match has gone to a time limit draw. As such, Ki retains the championship! The journeyman Rave came so close to knocking off the champion tonight but, by virtue of going the distance, Ki escapes with his title once again. [***¾] Match #7 “The Viper” Randy Orton vs. “The Greatest Man That Ever Lived” Austin Aries
This is a match that could headline any show in the country as Randy Orton & Austin Aries do battle for the first time ever. The crowd is LOUD for this one as we get dueling chants supporting both men. When they lock up, Orton’s rather obvious size advantage takes over as he muscles Aries into the corner. The former ROH champion utilizes his agility, however, and slips behind his opponent before running to the opposite corner. A Running Dropkick rocks Orton! Aries is going for the Brainbuster but Orton slithers his way to the outside. From there, the action follows a slow deliberate pace as both men take turns controlling the action. It’s not everybody’s cup of tea but by the time they start trading nearfalls and busting out signature moves, the crowd is going wild. A Superplex attempt from Orton backfires as he’s knocked off the top. 450 Splash! Orton gets his knees up! The Viper goes for the RKO but Aries somehow manages to force him to the mat for the Last Chancery! Fans are on their feet as Orton claws his way to the ropes, aided by his 6’ 4’’ frame. A Soccer Ball kick to the head meets the former WWE champion when he gets to his knees. A-Double tries to muscle Orton up for the Brainbuster but instead gets tossed into the air. RKO! My goodness! 1-2-3! Orton wins this dream encounter. [***]
Match #8 NWA World’s Heavyweight Championship “The Cornerstone” Jay Lethal vs. “God’s Last Gift” Tyler Black ©
Lethal was able to goad the champion into this match by stealing the physical title after a beatdown from The BLKOUT. Ever since then, Black has been left laying every time he’s shared a ring with Lethal. Can he change things around with the lights on bright? At the very least, he doesn’t have to worry about outside interference as it was announced earlier tonight that the rest of the BLKOUT are banned from ringside. In the early stages, it becomes clear that Lethal came into the match with the plan of targeting Black’s leg. Chop blocks, knee breakers, you name it. If it damages the leg, Lethal did it. The usually speedy champion has trouble keeping up with Lethal with his bum wheel, trying to utilize more power moves and mat grappling to take some of the pressure off the appendage. Black barely survives a Figure Four by grabbing the ropes but still leaves himself vulnerable to a Diving Elbow Drop.
Lethal signals for the Killshot before cartwheeling off the ropes but winds up taking a Superkick to the back of the head! Unfortunately for Black, he had to use his damaged leg and immediately goes to the mat in agony, unable to capitalize as he’s done so many times in the past. After mentally psyching himself up to ignore the searing pain in his leg, the champ goes on the offensive. The Buckle Bomb and Paroxysm (Spinning Lifting Inverted DDT) gets the fans going but only gets Black two counts. Trying to rely on his ace, Black slowly drags himself to the top rope. Phoenix Spl-NO! Lethal moves out of the way. “God’s Last Gift” rolls through but crumples to one knee due to his injured wheel. Killshot! BLACK KICKS OUT! Lethal goes for the Figure Four again but Black boots him away. “The Cornerstone” comes bouncing off the ropes into a Superkick! Exhausted, both competitors sell on the mat before dragging themselves to a standing base. Brainbuster from Black! Gee, wonder where he picked that one up from…? Anyway, the champ gets on his “grown man shit” and lets out a roar before muscling Lethal up in spite of his bad leg. Fade to Black! The champion crawls on top of Lethal. 1-2-3! In his toughest defense yet, Black retains the world title. [***¾]

NWA Wrestling [73%] Episode #31 03/03/12 LIVE from Detroit, Michigan Attendance: 618 - This week’s show starts out with a number of major announcement from Commissioner Adam Pearce. First of all, tonight will feature a blockbuster main event as Jeff Hardy challenges Low-Ki for the Television Championship. Second, the NWA will host it’s next PPV, the 64th NWA Anniversary Show, on March 25th. That show will feature two major matches. The first is a 30-man “Rumble.” Unlike the traditional Rumble, eliminations can only occur via pinfall or submission. The winner will headline next month’s PPV in a NWA World’s Heavyweight Championship. Speaking of the world title, the Anniversary show will also feature a world title match between Tyler Black and Randy Orton! The announcers sell the last announcement big, already promoting it as “the biggest match in modern NWA history.” [79%] 1. Time to head to the ring for some tag action! C&C Wrestle Factory give former champs Blk Jeez & Ruckus all they can handle, utilizing precise tandem offense to keep their foes on the backfoot. The champs are able to weather the storm and come back with an offensive flurry of their own, culminating in Caprice being separated from his partner and dropped with the Death Sentence. I’ve already heard a couple folks backstage refer to this as C&C’s “coming out party” as they went blow for blow with one of the best teams in the company. [***]- After commercial, we cut to Jay Lethal congratulating Blk Jeez & Ruckus on their win backstage. That praise doesn’t extend to their stablemate Xavier Creed as Lethal admonishes him for losing to Drake Younger on a match that recently aired on NWA Syndication. Lethal orders Blk Jeez to "take care of buisness" and beat Younger in a match. "We need to re-establish ourselves as a dominant force before we start losing ground. There's no reason why we should be losing to a deathmatch degenerate that can barely wrestle his way out of a paper bag." [69%]- Armando Alejandro Estrada is out with Rocky Romero, asking KENTA to come down so all of them can squash whatever beef is going on between his clients. It doesn’t take long for the NOAH import to answer the call, not even looking at Armando but instead staring down “Azúcar” the entire time. Stepping in between the two before things can get physical, Armando gives a long spiel about how the three of them are “one big, happy family.” Sometimes, families fight but at the end of the day, they always forgive each other. “Please KENTA, shake Rocky’s hand and let’s put all this behind us! I’ve even reserved us a booth at the most expensive nightclub that a craphole like this town could provide.” Mouthing off to his supposed “family”, Romero smugly sticks his hand out, warning KENTA that he better do the right thing. Still having not said a word since coming out, the NOAH star emphatically kicks Rocky’s hand away to a big pop. Intervening once again before violence can occur, Armando desperately pleads with KENTA to change his mind. “I’m your manager! Listen to me!! I know what’s best for you, especially when you clearly don’t.” THAT clearly struck a nerve with KENTA as he grabs Armando’s mic and speaks for the first time. He can’t speak much English but he only had to say two words here. “You’re fired.” The fans love it as Armando blows a gasket! “You really gonna walk away from this lifestyle? The money, the women, the alligator shoes!? How dare you! NOBODY fires Armando Alejandro Estrada!” Having heard enough, KENTA snatches Armando up by the suit collar but is quickly attacked from behind by Romero. The NOAH star is able to briefly gain the upperhand before Armando provides a distraction that allows Rocky to leave KENTA laying with a Tombstone Piledriver. Armando & Romero stand tall as we head to another commercial, much to the disgust of this Detroit crowd. [71%]2. So, I’mma keep it funky with y’all. I’ve just about run out of patience on the Bad Bones experiment. I’ve tried pushing him as a monster but he just hasn’t gotten over like I hoped he would. Remember when he was feuding with f***ing Jeff Hardy? Well, he loses to Danny Havoc here in a solid match. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. [**½]- Gail Kim has a celebration in the ring following her championship win on Sunday. Not much to say here. Kim cuts a “rah-rah” promo about she plans on giving her all every night to be the standard bearer for women in this industry. She also thanks the fans for supporting her during the tournament because duh, she a babyface. After her spiel, she heads to the commentary booth to give her insight on the upcoming match. [69%]3. Nikki Roxx has not racked up many victories since making the jump to the NWA and her fortunes don’t get any better tonight as she loses a close battle to Mercedes Martinez. This match is stemming from that brawl they had at a recent media event. That physicality carries over to the ring as stiff strikes are on the menu in this one. The finish involves a ref stoppage after Roxx goes limp following a Running Knee to the back of the head. Brutal stuff and the champion Gail Kim has to admit she’s impressed. [**½]- In a pre-taped interview, The Hart Foundation make it clear that they want a shot at the tag team titles. Nattie Neidhart also stakes her claim to being the first person to challenge Kim for her newly won title. [67%]4. Coming off an impromptu appearance in last week’s TV main event, Keith Hansen builds off that momentum by knocking off Jerry Lynn in a passable match. Lynn had the best match of the night with Gargano on Sunday but can’t get much out of Hansen here as the styles clash is just too great. Hansen secures the win with a Lariat after hurling his adversary across the ring with a Fallaway Slam. [**]- Johnny Gargano cuts a pre-taped promo hyping up his TV title match on the 25th. Lots of babyface fire here as Gargano talks about fulfilling his dream of winning a championship on PPV like so many of his favorite stars did growing up. [72%]5. Although he survived a tough defense against Jimmy Rave on Sunday, Low-Ki has to face another tough challenger in Jeff Hardy with only six days rest to fulfill his Television Championship duties. Ki is clearly moving a step slower than usual and Hardy benefits from it, controlling most of the match and getting the crowd to believe they are about to see a title change hands. Unfortunately for the Detroit faithful, Derrick Bateman makes sure that doesn’t happen by running down and whacking Hardy in the back with a Singapore Cane out of the ref’s view. That cheap shot allows the champion to drill Hardy with a Ki Krusher and get the three count. Bateman isn’t done, however, as he chokes out Hardy using the same Singapore Cane. The shows comes to a close with Bateman standing over the unconscious Hardy. [***¼]

Oh, Johnny had the best match in promotion history so far? I’m flabbergasted.

NWA TV on Syndication 3/7/12 Quick Results

- Peter LaSalle hypes up the newly formed team of Zach Sabre Jr. & Paul Burchill, dubbed “British Strong Style” by the geeks in marketing. With Burchill’s striking prowess and Sabre’s submission mastery, the pair has the potential to defeat any team in the company. “Perhaps, any team in the world. That’s how much I believe in my men.”

NWA Wrestling[77%] Episode #32 3/10/12 TAPED in Detroit, Michigan
- Before the show opening can play, we get a cold open with a pre-taped promo from Derrick Bateman. He’s still carrying the Singapore Cane that he used to lay out Jeff Hardy last week as he lets the Charismatic Enigma know that their rivalry is far from over. “I’ll admit, you caught me off-guard last month when you beat me but if anything, I actually need to thank you for that loss. You showed me what I need to do to rise to the top of the NWA.” Bateman claims that he’s no longer going to “take things easy” on Hardy because of his tenure in this business. From now on, he’s playing for keeps. Last week was just a taste of his new mentality. “The next time we face off in the ring, you’re gonna be dealing with a completely different animal. The goofy “Mantastic” Bateman that made folks laugh is gone. Say hello to “The Prodigy.” [82%]
1. Last week on TV, Drake Younger defeated Xavier Creed. He looks to defeat another BLKOUT member tonight as he takes on Blk Jeez. Ruckus seconds his partner during the bout and makes his presence felt with some interference here and there, antagonizing fans all the while. Despite that, Younger is still able to take control of the match with a Half-Nelson Suplex before finishing Jeez off with Drake’s Landing. As Younger is celebrating in the ring, the camera cuts to the backstage area where Jay Lethal is watching on a monitor. For the second week in a row, he doesn’t seem pleased that one of his men have lost to a “deathmatch degenerate”, as Lethal put it. [**½]
- Randy Orton doesn’t have much to say in his pre-taped promo talking up his title match on the 25th but what he does say, he says with conviction. Essentially, he says that Black may be the better athlete but his killer instinct will be the difference maker. He’s been a world champion nine times before and he plans on making it a 10th at the Anniversary Show. [95%]
2. In a rather subpar match, Rocky Romero pins Ryan Eagles after hitting him with a Tombstone Piledriver. Not much to say here. The match was competitive but Romero was clearly the better man tonight. [**]
- As Rocky Romero is flexing for the hoes with Armando Alejandro Estrada, he’s approached by NWA Commissioner Adam Pearce. Peace informs the duo that “Azucar” has been scheduled for a match with KENTA at the Anniversary Show! Romero gets uppity with the authority figure but the decision is final and papers have been filed. [71%]
- Keith Hansen is this week’s guest on “The Chuck Taylor Show” but what seems like a routine interview is soon interrupted by Robert Anthony. Clearly walking with a purpose, Ego reminds the audience that a couple weeks ago, he was attacked backstage by an unknown assailant. He had no idea who attacked him until a few moments ago when he saw footage of the attack from a security camera. “I’m sure my attacker didn’t know there was a camera or otherwise, he wouldn’t have bothered with the sneak attack. Isn’t that right, Keith?” *gasp* Yes, it was Keith Hansen that jumped Ego and took his spot in that night’s main event. Ego demands that Hansen look him in the eye and tell him why he would do something so underhanded but is cut off by a Lariat from The Outlaw! TAFKA Festus beats Ego around ringside before goozling him and Chokeslamming him onto the hard black mats! He’s not done as he hauls Ego’s carcass back up just to hit him with ANOTHER Chokeslam on the outside. He was cheered when he came out for this segment but Hansen is getting lots of insults hurled his way as he walks to the back without explaining himself. [79%]
3. With a future tag title shot on the line, The Hart Foundation, Primo Colon & Richie Steamboat, and Stellar Ninja Force collide in a 3-way match. As these matches tend to be, this winds up being a spotfest as each team bring out nearly everything in their playbook to secure the win. In the end, Richie just happens to be in the right place at the right time as he catches Trenton Locks with a Crossbody off the top and cradles him for three! [**1/2]
- We get footage from a recent NWA Training Camp seminar where Television Champion Low-Ki is bullying some nameless greenhorns. Under the guise of “showing them new holds”, Ki smacks the rookies around and takes pleasure in their screams of agony as their joints are manipulated in all sorts of nasty ways. Mercifully, NWA B-show regular Akira Tozawa steps in and yanks Ki off whatever poor jabroni he’s torturing. The champ doesn’t take kindly to this and tells Tozawa that he’ll take care of him soon but it’ll be in the ring. The video ends with a brief graphic promoting the TV title match between the two next week. [69%]
4. In her first TV match since winning the title, Women’s Champion Gail Kim teams up with Portia Perez & April Lee to take on the rudo squad of Jacqueline Moore, RAIN, & Natte Neidhart. The action was fun but sloppy as frequent tags prevent anybody from getting too tired. The real story comes at the end when Nattie is able to shove off Kim’s Eat Defeat attempt before hauling her up for her own finish, Nattie By Nature (Michinoku Driver), to earn a pinfall victory over the women’s champ. You gotta think this puts Nattie in line for a future title match. [*¼]
- Before tonight’s main event, we get a pre-taped promo from Tyler Black talking about his title defense against Orton. Black acknowledges that Orton has had a lot of success outside of the NWA but this ain’t Stanford. The champ won’t say that he built the house that is the NWA but he owns the property! If “The Viper” wants to become a ten time world champion, he better head to Japan or something because it damn sure isn’t happening at the expense of “God’s Last Gift.” [76%]
5. In a match that’s very familiar to ROH fans, Austin Aries locks up with Jerry Lynn in the night’s main event. Long match here as both men know each other very well, not allowing their opponent to land a significant blow that could turn the tide in their favor. Much as he did in his series against Johnny Gargano, Lynn relies on dirty tactics here as a roll up with a handful of tights gets him two. “The Living Legend” tries to get back to a standing base but gets rocked by a Soccer Ball Kick to the head. A Discus Elbow has Lynn seeing stars before Aries puts the match to bed with a Brainbuster. Afterwards, A-Double snatches a mic and jokingly mentions how the world champ needs to send him a “thank you” card after aping his finish to retain the world title against Jay Lethal. Unsurprisingly, Aries says he’s gonna win the Gold Rush Rumble and go on to win the title that “should have been mine a long time ago.” Awesome TV main event and Aries has really blossomed into his role as one of the company’s top babyfaces. I’mma keep it funky with y’all. After taking an extended break from this diary, I really just wanna get to the Anniversary PPV and beyond. Sooooooo, I’m just gonna do a brief recap of the two weeks of TV on VH1 (3/17 & 3/24) leading up to it instead of the usual full write up. For those that remember my long forgotten ROH diary, it’ll be in a very similar vein as that. Anyhoo, let’s get into it.
NWA on VH1 3/17/12 Recap Two Anniversary matches collided in this week’s main event as NWA World Champion Tyler Black teamed up with former rival KENTA to do battle with Rocky Romero & Randy Orton. A technically sound match with a strong crowd doesn’t get the finish it deserves as Romero nails KENTA with a chair on the outside for the instant DQ. In the aftermath, Black got some revenge for his partner by blasting Romero with a Superkick only to turn around into an RKO! The Viper took full advantage of the chaos and sent a statement to the champion. Elsewhere on the card: Low-Ki successfully defended his TV title against Akira Tozawa, also revealing that he’s aligned himself with Father James Mitchell. The champ’s future PPV challenger was successful as well as he defeated Chuck Taylor in a rematch from the TV bout they had a few weeks ago. After the match, Danny Havoc ran down and stole Taylor’s shoes because f*** him, that’s why. Jimmy Rave gained some momentum heading into the Gold Rush Rumble in two weeks by defeating Derrick Bateman after Jeff Hardy ran down to prevent his rival from illegally using that damn kendo stick he’s been carrying around. Lisa Maria Varon, TAFKA Victoria/Tara, made her NWA TV debut by knocking off Portia Perez in singles action.
NWA on VH1
3/24/12 Recap
Randy Orton and Tyler Black had their final face-to-face encounter before their title match on PPV to start out the show. Not much of note happened. They talked shit to each other, rode their own nuts, promised victory, that kinda stuff. In a preview of the upcoming “Gold Rush” Rumble this Sunday, Derrick Bateman secured the win for the rudo squad in a star-studded 10-man tag match in this week’s main event, pinning Player Uno after a Cobra Clutch Slam. Elsewhere on the card: In a match meant to decide who would challenge for the NWA Women’s Championship tomorrow night, Mercedes Martinez & Nattie Neidhart went to a double countout as they were brawling on the outside. Gail Kim, being the fighting champ she is, quickly came out and announced that she’ll gladly defend against both women tomorrow night. Drake Younger, after defeating every other member of the BLKOUT, failed in his attempt to knock off their leader as Jay Lethal caught him with the Killshot in a solid match. The rest of the show was a pretty by-the-numbers show promoting the rest of the PPV card. Both Johnny Gargano and the team of Primo Colon & Richie Steamboat looked good heading into their respective title matches.

I'm absolutely delighted to see this is still alive! Will you be returning to full write-ups after the PPV? Not a huge deal if you don't, I know it can be a lot of work, I'm just asking.

64th NWA Anniversary Celebration~! March 25, 2012 LIVE from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida Attendance: 5,053 Announcers: Steve Prazak & Tommy Dreamer
Match #1 NWA World Tag Team Championship Primo Colon & Richie Steamboat vs. Switchblade Conspiracy © No pre-show action this month, we getting straight to the main card! Since defeating Player Uno in a handicap match, Jon Moxley & Sami Calihan have ruled NWA’s tag division. They face a formidable challenge tonight in the form of two 2nd-Generation Superstars, Colon & Steamboat. The faces control a surprising portion of the match using tandem offense, causing Moxley and Calihan to take breathers on the outside in an attempt to regroup and adapt their strategy. Apparently, that strategy involves isolating Steamboat from his partner after Calihan snatches Colon up and Powerbombs him into the first row! A couple fans (who are actually plants cause I ain’t getting my ass sued) got taken out while the rest scattered like roaches, leaving Primo to take the brunt of the impact onto the metal and concrete. Much like it was when they won the titles, the Switchblade Conspiracy effectively turn this into a handicap match, beating baby Steamboat’s ass with glee in their eyes. To his credit, Richie actually mounts a mini-comeback when he ducks under a Bicycle Kick from Calihan and fires off a couple shots only to bounce off the ropes into a stiff elbow to the jaw from an illegal Moxley! The champ sheepishly grins at the ref as he’s admonished back to his corner. This Florida crowd is chanting for Primo to get back on the apron and finally, after what seems like an eternity, he drags himself back up to his corner. Hot tag! Primo suddenly stops selling as he takes out the champs with a couple Dropkicks before connecting with a simultaneous Complete Shot/DDT! Calihan seemingly stops Primo’s momentum with a well-timed eye poke but still walks right into a Backstabber. 1-2-Mox’s there to break it up! While Mox and Primo brawl in the ring, Richie tries to re-insert himself into the match but an opportunistic Calihan disposes of him by throwing him face-frst into the steps, inadvertently busting Richie’s nose. Put yo hands up, boy. In the ring, Primo is setting up a Frog Splash off the top but lands right onto Mox’s knees. In a flash, Sami rolls into the ring and the fans know what’s next. Spike Piledriver! That’s all she wrote, the champs retain. Good opener, albeit a bit long. [ ***]Match #2 NWA Women’s Championship “The Latina Sensation” Mercedes Martinez vs. “The Queen of Harts” Nattie Neidhart vs. “Big Match Gail” Gail Kim ©
This match was technically booked last night but it’s been brewing ever since the women’s title tournament ended. Nattie and Mercedes have had two matches with neither one having a decisive winner. In Kim’s mind, they had both proven themselves to be worthy contenders, resulting in this match. Kim’s first title defense won’t be easy but it’s obvious the champion is looking forward to the challenge. This one starts off in a somewhat comedic fashion as Martinez and Kim take turns chopping Nattie in the corner, seemingly trying to see who hits harder. Finally, Nattie flips out and screams, “STOP CHOPPING ME!!!” This prompts Mercedes & Kim to briefly look at each other...before chopping Nattie at the same time, causing the Hart Queen to take a bump to a big ovation. The action gets significantly more serious as the match goes on with all three women remaining active and coming close on at least one occasion to winning the title. Slipping her way out of a Fisherman Buster, Kim connects flush with Eat Defeat on Mercedes but Nattie immediately breaks up the pin, causing Mercedes to roll to the outside. Nattie muscles Kim up for Nattie By Nature (Michinoku Driver) but the champ somehow turns it into a Crucifix Pin. 1-2-3! Nattie is in disbelief but Kim finds a way to hang onto the strap. [*¾]- Johnny Gargano cuts a promo backstage, hyping up his TV title match later tonight. Nothing noteworthy here but Gargano did a good job selling his drive to be champion. [69%]
Match #3 KENTA vs. “Azúcar” Rocky Romero (w/ Armando Alejandro Estrada) Next up is a singles encounter that’s been building ever since KENTA returned to the states. Armando Alejandro Estrada was dead set on the NOAH star and Romero becoming a successful tag team but it became obvious time and time again that they just couldn’t stay on the same page due to their clashing personalities. Finally, KENTA had enough and laid out Romero with a GTS. With the split between the two now official, it’s time for them to square up in that squared circle. There’s no lockups to be seen at the start of this one as both guys wail on the other with stiff slaps. Romero is able to gain a brief advantage by targeting KENTA’s arm with some holds but the NOAH import fights his back into the match, culminating in him jumping off the apron to blast Romero with a Shotgun Dropkick as “Azúcar” is sitting dazed on a chair. As the action heads back into the ring, Armando makes his presence felt on the outside by yanking on KENTA’s ankle behind the ref’s back. It only causes KENTA to lose his focus for a split second but that’s still enough for Romero to gain the upper hand, targeting the same arm that he worked on earlier. For several agonizing minutes, Romero tries to draw the submission using arm-based holds, leaving KENTA to repeatedly grit his teeth and tough out the pain until he’s able to reach the ropes or fight his way back to a standing base. In this match between two of the best technical workers in the company, the turning point actually comes from a rather barbaric moment as KENTA repeatedly headbutts Romero, letting out a roar before delivering a devastating strike combo that rocks Romero’s jaw. Armando tries to interject by getting on the apron but KENTA takes care of him with a Yakuza Kick! Romero slips behind KENTA, Dragon Suplex! KENTA IS RIGHT BACK UP!!! FIGHTING SPIRIT ROAR~!~! The NOAH star blocks a desperation elbow before lifting Romero onto his shoulders. GTS! KENTA is heading to the pay windah tonight. Real good match but probably a bit shorter than you would think since the Rumble and the world title match are gonna suck up a lot of time. [***¾]
Match #4 NWA Television Championship Match “Aces” Johnny Gargano vs. “The World Warrior” Low-Ki (w/ Father James Mitchell) © Johnny Gargano hasn’t been in the NWA for very long but he certainly has proven himself as a top competitor. He earned this title match by besting Jerry Lynn in a “Best of Five” series last month. Just when it seemed like the TV champion couldn’t become any more dangerous after developing a new mean streak in the ring, he’s aligned himself with the “Sinister Minister” James Mitchell. “Where is Bad Bones?”, you might ask? Don’t worry about him, the match is starting off fast as Gargano goes right after the champion, trying a variety of cradles and roll-ups in an attempt to catch the champ off-guard. Ki is able to get his shoulder up before three each time but when he tries to go on the offensive, Gargano is able to accurately predict Ki’s movements and avoids his kicks as a result. The challenger has clearly done his homework heading into the biggest match of his career. Ki is visibly frustrated as he tries to connect with a Tidal Wave kick by bouncing off the ropes but eats nothing but mat, leaving him open to a Slingshot Spear from Gargano. As the match goes on, Ki is able to get his licks in but just can’t land a decisive blow. Meanwhile, Gargano is wrestling the match of a lifetime and has this Florida crowd believing that a title change is in the air. After finally connecting with the Tidal Wave kick he was trying to hit earlier, Ki tries to bring the TV title into the ring but is immediately stopped by the ref, not allowing the champion to take the easy way out of this defense. Unbeknownst to the zebra, however, James Mitchell is yanking off the padding on one of the top turnbuckles. Gargano intercepts the champion and lays into him with punches but even Stevie Wonder could see what’s coming next. Gargano goes for a Stinger Splash into the corner but Ki swiftly moves, causing Gargano’s skull to go bouncing off the exposed turnbuckle. The Ohio native might think he’s still in Cleveland as he stumbles around dazed. Ki Krusher! The three count that follows is academic. Father James Mitchell proves his worth as his assistance was essential in Ki retaining his title. Match itself was disappointing, tbh. I was expecting a lot more but these two just didn’t mesh well. Didn’t help that Ki seemed kinda pissy that he had to sell for Gargano so much when I went over the match backstage. [**½]
Match #5 NWA World Heavyweight Championship “The Viper” Randy Orton vs. “God’s Last Gift” Tyler Black © Ahhh shit. Turns out the Rumble is going on last as the match that likely drew most of these folks to the building is up next. Randy Orton was a world champion, several times over, in his last place of employment. Here in the NWA, however, he’s searching for his first one as he locks up with “The Man” Tyler Black. Very slow paced match that harkens back to world title matches from an era long gone. After lots of exchanges that were clearly designed for both men to feel each other out more than anything, Orton delivers the first real significant strike of the bout with a European Uppercut. Black fires back with some Knife-Edge Chops and from there, the match enters second gear. The action is faster, the counters are crisper, and neither man is afraid to go for a killing blow as shown by both teasing their finish before getting countered. Black clearly has the upper hand in agility and showcases that by rocking Orton on the outside with a couple of Suicide Dives. Meanwhile, Orton utilizes his instincts to gain momentum, trapping Rollins in the ring apron before laying into the vulnerable champion. We’re about 20 minutes deep when this match effectively goes Super Sayian 3 and shit REALLY gets hot. Rollins uses his tremendous body control to somehow turn a Superplex attempt into a Sliced Bread off the top! Black quickly heads back to the top rope. Phoenix Spl-NO! Orton rolls out of the way but Black rolls through as well. RK-NO! Black shoves Orton off him and into the ropes. Superkick to the back of Orton’s head! The champion has Orton up for Paroxysm but somehow, someway, by the time both men hit the mat, it’s an RKO!!! The damndest counter you’ll ever see as Orton hooks the leg. 1-2-BLACK KICKS OUT AT 2.9~! Keeping his cool at such a critical moment, Orton methodically drags Rollins onto the top turnbuckle, likely for a second attempt at a Superplex. When the challenger attempts to lift Black up, “God’s Last Gift” shows some surprising strength as he muscles Orton up instead and sends him crashing face-first into the mat. Alone on the top rope, the wheels don’t have to turn long in Black’s head before he decides what to do. Phoenix Splash! All of Black’s weight came crashing down onto the challenger’s back. An exhausted Tyler can’t go for a cover and that’s when this world title classic turns into a tragedy. A man jumps the guard rail and begins stomping the hell out of both men. As fans recognize who the man is, they all rise to their feet. The announcers can’t believe it. “Oh my god, that’s Kevin Steen!” He hasn’t been seen since losing the world title at Starrcade but sure enough, “Mr. Wrestling” Kevin Steen is here in Ft. Lauderdale! The ref, clearly confused, can’t even call for the bell before he’s laid out by Steen. After taking a moment to revel in the carnage and the crowd cheering his name despite him being a dastardly heel, Steen puts the exclamation point on the assault by hitting each man with a Package Piledriver. After snatching the world title away from the timekeeper, Steen lovingly looks at his former crown before disrespectfully tossing it onto Black’s unconscious body. Always one to talk his shit, Steen has a parting message for the camera after ruining this high profile title match. “Daddy’s home, kids. And remember, daddy ALWAYS eats first.” [**¾]
Match #6 Winner Receives Future NWA World’s Heavyweight Championship Match at Next Month’s PPV Gold Rush Rumble It’s TIIIME! With a future world title match on the line, 30 men collide in the first edition of what I hope will be an annual tradition at this event. It’s the same rules as WWE’s Rumble with one big exception. Eliminations can only occur via pinfall or submission, none of that over-the-top f*** shit. After the ring announcer breaks down things for the live crowd, the music of Robert “Ego” Anthony blares through the speakers, letting us know who was the unlucky soul to draw the #1 entry spot. Ego doesn’t have to wait long to find out that he’ll be starting the match with another fan favorite, Jeff Hardy. For two minutes, the faces engage in some back-and-forth action, not doing a lot but just enough to keep the crowd interested. Business picks up immediately when entrant #3, Keith Hansen, arrives. Ego goes right after the man that laid him out backstage last month but soon gets blasted with a Big Boot to the face. Hardy tries to get some shots in as well but again, The Outlaw is able to use his size and power to overwhelm the smaller face. Deciding that teamwork is the best strategy in this situation, Hardy & Ego force Hansen into the corner with a pair of stereo dropkicks. They go for Poetry in Motion but Hansen snatches Hardy out of the air and violently slams him down on top of Ego with a Uranage!
Time for entrant #4, Xavier Creed. With Hansen dominating his opponents, Creed is slow to get in the ring, lingering around ringside before trying to jump the big man from behind. That fails and Creed is flattened by a vicious right hand. In the midst of all this ass whooping, Hardy gets in a hope spot where he teases the Twist of Fate on Hasen but ends up getting yeeted out the ring. In a regular Rumble match, that would be an elimination but not here in the NWA. Still, nasty landing for Jeff as medical staff are checking him out just to be safe. The fans come alive for entrant #5, Player Uno! The masked video game character avoids a Hansen Lariat upon entering the ring and begins firing off Bionic Elbows. He shows some surprising strength by lifting The Outlaw off the ground for a Death Valley Driver but Hansen yanks Uno’s mask around, effectively making the former tag champ blind. Chokeslam from Hansen! Player Uno is the first man eliminated from this match.
The crowd is starting to get restless now and are practically begging for somebody to break up Hansen’s run of dominance. As it turns out, entrant #6 just might be able to do so as it’s the Greatest Man That Ever Lived, Austin Aries. Waiting for Aries to slide into the ring, Hansen tries to swing but A-Double has it scouted, ducking under the blow and firing off a barrage of strikes, finally dropping the big man after bouncing off the ropes and connecting with a Discus Elbow. Hansen bails outside for a breather but Aries is on him like white on rice with a Heat Seeking Missle Suicide Dive!
{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler} {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} [ Entries: Robert Anthony, Jeff Hardy, Keith Hansen, Xavier Creed, Player Uno, Austin Aries Eliminations: Player Uno]
Entrant #7 is Chris Cage, a guy who doesn’t appear on TV a whole lot but would love to shock the world and earn a world title match here tonight. With Hansen neutralized for the time being as he and Aries do battle on the outside, the action splinters off as wrestlers pair off into groups to do battle. With that dynamic in mind, the ring begins to fill with bodies as the entries come flying in. In order, Drake Younger, Chuck Taylor, Danny Havoc, & Brian Cage hit the ring, joining the chaotic fray. Xavier Creed looks to have Ego in a bad way as he goes for the Unprettier but Ego shoves him off, sending him right into a shoulder block from Hardy, who has re-appeared on the apron. Hardy gets back into the ring with a Sunset Flip, simultaneously eliminating Creed as the BLKOUT member is pinned for three! Meanwhile, in another part of the ring, Brian Cage turns some heads when he uppercuts Younger in the nuts and drills him with a Stenier Screwdriver, sending the Naptown Dragon to the showers.
{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} [ Entries: Chris Cage, Drake Younger, Danny Havoc, & Brian Cage Eliminations: Xavier Creed, Drake Younger Still Rumblin’: Robert Anthony, Jeff Hardy, Keith Hansen, Austin Aries, Chris Cage, Brian Cage, Chuck Taylor, & Danny Havoc]
Entrant #12 has already competed tonight but you can’t count KENTA out, especially when he’s coming off a big win against his former tag partner earlier in the night. Within seconds, the NOAH import makes his presence known as he eliminates Chris Cage with a GTS. KENTA gets the better of an exchange with the other Cage (Brian) but is cut off by a shot to the back from Hasen, who must have slid back into the ring at some point along with Aries. Lucky #13 winds up being Teddy Hart, who has to enter the match with a bang by doing a Springboard Clothesline onto two men. Hart, of course, flexs for the hoes with Brian the Cat. Entrant #14 has a much more low-key entrance as fans don’t react at all to Bad Bones. Like, at all at all. Yikes.
In the midst of all this, Chuck Taylor, who’s been battling with rival Danny Havoc since he entered the ring, finally eliminates his foe with a Small Package of all things. Havoc is obviously pissed about being counted out on such a simple move but Taylor tells him to get to stepping. After sipping his beer in contemplation, Havoc offers The Kentucky Gentleman a handshake, acknowledging him as the better man tonight. SIKE! Havoc spits the beer in Taylor’s face, leaving Chuckie T blinded and betrayed. It also leaves him as easy pickings for Entrant #15 (damn, we’re already half-way through!) Primo Colon who quickly polishes Taylor off with a Backstabber.
{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} [Entries: KENTA, Teddy Hart, Bad Bones, Primo Colon Eliminations: Chris Cage, Danny Havoc, Chuck Taylor Still Rumblin’: Robert Anthony, Jeff Hardy, Keith Hansen, Austin Aries, Brian Cage, KENTA, Teddy Hart, Bad Bones, Primo Colon]
Entrant #16 is the first real “surprise” entry of the night as Carlos Colon, the father of Primo Colon & the godfather of Puerto Rican wrestling, enters. We get a tender moment of father & son teaming up, getting in a couple tandem moves on Ego & Aries. The good times don’t last long, however, as Hansen breaks things up and eliminates Carlos with a Lariat. Just so Primo can join his dad backstage, Hansen eliminates him as well with a Chokeslam. Looking to add some more bodies to his hit list as Akira Tozawa comes in at #17 , Hansen goozles Hardy but Ego comes flying in with a Springboard DDT, dropping the Outlaw on his head. A free Hardy quickly climbs to the top rope, Swanton Bomb! Hardy covers Hansen and he’s outta here!
{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} [Entries: Carlos Colon, Akira Tozawa Eliminations: Carlos Colon, Primo Colon, Keith Hansen Still Rumblin’: Robert Anthony, Jeff Hardy, Austin Aries, Brian Cage, KENTA, Teddy Hart, Bad Bones, Akira Tozawa]
Coming in at #18, Derrick Bateman makes it clear that he’s interested in eliminating one person in particular, Jeff Hardy. As those two pair off, Teddy Hart hops off the middle rope and plants Bad Bones with a devastating Canadian Destroyer! 1-2-3, Bones is eliminated. Entrants #19 & 20 (Ryan Eagles and Jerry Lynn, respectively) get settled in the ring before the next elimination occurs as Brian Cage catches Ego on a Moonsault attempt and connects with the Steiner Screwdriver! Entrant #21, Cliff Compton, comes into little fan-fare and is eliminated to even less fan-fare as he is quickly planted with a Twist of Fate from Hardy. Austin Aries also gets his shit in as he eliminates Tozawa via submission thanks to the Last Chancery.
{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} [Entries: Derrick Bateman, Ryan Eagles, Jerry Lynn, Cliff Compton Eliminations: Bad Bones, Robert Anthony, Cliff Compton, Akira Tozawa Still Rumblin’: Jeff Hardy, Austin Aries, Brian Cage, KENTA, Teddy Hart, Derrick Bateman, Ryan Eagles, Jerry Lynn]
Entrants #22 & #23 wind up having very short stints in the match as Ray Gordy (22) barely lasts 90 seconds before being drilled by a GTS. Coincidentally, as Gordy is heading up the ramp defeated, his partner Shawn Daivari (23) heads to the ring. He tries to avenge his partner’s loss but he also eats a GTS for his efforts and is swiftly eliminated. Finally, we get some more star power in this match as BLKOUT leader Jay Lethal is #24. Within a minute, he’d already notched his first elimination by drilling Lynn with a Killshot. He secured his second after sneaking out of a Stenier Screwdriver attempt from Cage (turns out three is too many) and rolling him up for three. The Cage elimination coincides with the arrival of entrant #25, former NWA Commishoner Bob Backlund!
{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} [Entries: Ray Gordy, Shawn Dairvari, Jay Lethal, Bob Backlund Eliminations: Ray Gordy, Shawn Daivari, Jerry Lynn, Brian Cage Still Rumblin’: Jeff Hardy, Austin Aries, KENTA, Teddy Hart, Derrick Bateman, Ryan Eagles, Jay Lethal, Bob Backlund]
Teddy Hart tries to do a moonsault or some other fancy doo off the top rope but ends up getting shoved to the outside, landing hard jaw-first onto the guard rail. Meanwhile, Backlund has an impressive showing, muscling around all the other competitors and even slapping Derrick Bateman in the Crossface Chickenwing before he’s kicked in the nuts by entrant #26, Rocky Romero. “Azúcar” wastes no time in forcing Backlund to the mat, slapping on an Ankle Lock that draws the submission. Romero is incredibly pleased with himself after tapping out a former world champion but finds himself back in the crosshairs of KENTA as the NOAH import goes after him with renewed vigor. In comes #27, Jimmy Rave just as Jay Lethal looks to eliminate Eagles with the Killshot. Eagles, to his credit, has the move scouted and shoves Lethal off, causing the BLKOUT leader to bounce off the ropes into a Double Arm DDT! 1-2-3! In what has to be the biggest upset of the match so far, Ryan Eagles just eliminated one of the favorites to win it all.
Elsewhere in the ring, Bateman goes for small package after small package but just can’t eliminate Jeff Hardy. A Cobra Clutch Slam attempt only allows Hardy to run up the ropes, shifting his weight on top of Bateman’s shoulders and forcing “The Prodigy” to frantically kick out before three. Aries and Jimmy Rave are trading blows in another corner, leaving Romero, Eagles, & KENTA in the center of the ring. KENTA muscles Romero up for the GTS but here comes Aramando Estrada to throw his damn shoe at KENTA. The action, however silly looking, does sufficiently distract KENTA enough for Romero to rake his eyes and send him right into a boot to the gut from Eagles. Double Arm DDT! KENTA is outta here. Obviously feeling himself after two big eliminations, the Aussie native goes for the hat trick but Romero maneuvers it into a backslide pin. 1-2, NO! Eagles’ gets back to his feet...right into a Candadian Destroyer from Teddy Hart! He must have been waiting to pick his spot on the outside and he picked a damn good one as he sends the white hot Eagles to the showers. Oh yeah and Paul Burchill entered at #28 at some point during all this
{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}
[Entries: Rocky Romero, Jimmy Rave, Paul Burchill Eliminations: Bob Backlund, Jay Lethal, KENTA, Ryan Eagles, Still Rumbling: Jeff Hardy, Austin Aries, Teddy Hardy, Derrick Bateman, Rocky Romero, Jimmy Rave, Paul Burchill]
Having re-inserted himself into the match, Hart is immediately targeted by Aries & Rave, who decide to momentarily work together to eliminate the “common trash” in Teddy. Things are looking grim for him but his savior comes at #29 in the form of his cousin, DH Smith. The big man runs wild on the remaining competitors in the ring, working together with his cousin to flatten Rave with a Hart Attack that leaves him easy pickings for elimination. The cousins celebrate their success...until Teddy suddenly rolls up DH Smith for three! DH is understandably pissed but Teddy indicates that it’s every man for himself. Hart turns his attention to an old rival in Jeff Hardy but Hardy quickly gets the better of the exchange. Twist of Fate! The Charismatic Engiam throws his tank top into the crowd to signal for another Swanton Bomb but in the midst of his throw, he’s rolled up by Derrick Bateman and the Prodigy has a healthy amount of tights in his hands! Three seconds later, Bateman had accomplished his goal. “I JUST PINNED JEFF HARDY!”, the egotistical heel boasted just as the clock signaled the arrival of #30…
{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} [Entries: DH Smith Eliminations: Jimmy Rave, DH Smith, Jeff Hardy Still Rumblin’: Austin Aries, Rocky Romero, Paul Burchill, Derrick Bateman, Teddy Hart]
There’s silence for a moment and then… YEAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
The crowd comes ALIVE for entrant #30, “The Animal” Batista~!~! The competitors in the ring are just as shocked as the crowd as none of them know how to react to the multi-time world champion. Teddy Hart winds up being the first to strike but pays for his decision as he walks right into a Spinebuster! Batista Bomb! Big Dave stares down his remaining foes as he hooks Hart’s leg and eliminates him. Paul Burchill tries his luck next but the result is the same. Spinebuster, Batista Bomb, Burchill is eliminated. Derrick Bateman does a bit better than the previous, thanks to a well-timed eye-poke, but gets a bit too cute when he attempts a Hurricarana for funsies. You can already see where this is going. Batista Bomb! Thanks for coming, Bateman.
We’re down to the final three and Romero & Aries have clearly made the decision to work together in order to eliminate the seemingly unstoppable Batista. The duo batter “The Animal” with strikes, culminating in Romero drilling him with a Tombstone Piledriver. 1-2NO! Batista has the shoulder up. 450 Splash from Aries! 1-2-BATISTA KICKS OUT AGAIN! Aries was seemingly prepared for this, however, as he fires off a soccer ball kick to the side of Batista’s head before getting him into position. Brainbuster! He hands off Batista to Romero. Another Tombstone Piledriver! 1-2-3! We’re down to the final two.
We started with 30 competitors and now, it comes down to this. Armando is cheering his man on but Aries has 5,000+ fans backing him up here in Ft. Lauderdale. Aries has the upper hand early on but Armando shoves his man out of the way of a Suicide Dive, leaving Aries to go crashing into the guardrail, opening up a nasty cut right above his eyebrow. It’s not long before one side of Aries’ face is covered in blood, in large part thanks to Romero working over the cut with punches. “Azúcar” goes for the Tombstone Piledriver but A-Double slips out. Discus Elbow lands flush! And another one! A stunned Romero stumbles into the corner. Running Dropkick from Aries! An exhausted Romero collapses as Aries ascends to the top. The fans know what’s next but damn it, there goes Aramando Estrada with another well-timed distraction, hanging onto Aries’ ankle long enough for his client to recover and cut A-Double off at the pass. The two trade blows before Romero lifts his opponent up. Tombstone Piledriver off the top rope!!!...does NOT connect as Aries rolls through with the move into a cradle! 1-2-3!!!!!!! AUSTIN ARIES IS YOUR 2012 NWA GOLD RUSH RUMBLE WINNER!!!
The blood all over his face can’t hide the smile that’s on A-Double’s face as confetti comes down and he’s awarded his trophy. “Azúcar” is nearly in tears as his manager desperately tries to console his client after taking two big L’s in one night. Just before the broadcast goes off the air, he hops on the mic and cuts a brief post-match promo promising to become “The Greatest NWA World Heavyweight Champion that Ever Lived” at next month’s PPV. [66%] [Editor’s Note: The match bombed in-game because I put it after the much hotter Orton/Black match, lmao. I hate this game sometimes.]

Awesome! This diary has been amazing, it's one of the best I've ever read. Nothing but joy with every update.
Pumped to see Steen back and playing a prominent role. The main event scene has really come together, with Black, Steen, Ego, Ki, Teddy, Romero, KENTA and Aries all looking totally capable of hanging with the likes of Orton, Hardy and now Batista(!!!)
And f*** what the game says, that Rumble was fantastic!

NWA TV on Syndication Quick Results 3/28/12- As per usual following a PPV, the show started out with a video recapping Sunday’s big event. - KENTA murks Brandon Gatson in a squash match, finishing the gymnast with the GTS. - British Strong Style (Paul Burchill & Zach Sabre Jr.) won a competitive match against C&C Wrestle Factory. After the match, The BLKOUT hit the ring and laid waste to all four competitors. - The BLKOUT cut a promo in the ring, reminding the NWA that THEY are the dominant force in the company. - Building off his stellar performance in the Rumble match on Sunday, Ryan Eagles cut a firey (get it???) pre-taped promo with his wife Madison Eagles by his side. - MsChif, who made her debut on last week’s syndicated episode with a win over Cheerleader Melissa, improves her record to 2-0 by defeating RAIN. - Speaking of Cheerleader Melissa, she comes out in the post-match to challenge MsChif to a rematch at a later date. - NWA Women’s Champion Gail Kim teamed with Stellar Ninja Force in a losing trios effort as they fell to The Hart Foundation. - Robert “Ego” Anthony, in a pre-taped promo, mentions that he still doesn’t know why Keith Hansen felt compelled to attack him from behind several weeks ago but he’s gonna get some answers from The Outlaw soon, even if he has to beat it out of him. - Drake Younger put in a strong showing as he unsuccessfully challenged for the TV title, eventually falling to Low Ki’s Dragon Sleeper. - After the match, Jimmy Rave comes out and challenges Low Ki to one more title match this Saturday. Ki doesn’t seem particuarly interested but that changes when Rave adds a stipulation. If Rave does not win the TV title, he will never challenge for the title again as long as Ki is the champion. Presented with an opportunity to permanently eliminate one of the biggest threats to his client’s reign, Mitchell quickly accepts on behalf of the champion.
NWA Wrestling on VH1 [80%] Episode #35 3/31/12 LIVE from Jacksonville, Florida Announcers: Steve Prazak & Honkey Tonk Man (yeah, he turned into an announcer in-game so I picked him up)
- After the show opening video package, we’re greeted by the entrance music of Kevin Steen. There are some boos but the crowd is surprisingly warm towards the former champion, giving him a “Welcome Back!” chant. Of course, that gets put to an end when Steen calls the crowd idiots and tells them to “shut the hell up because daddy’s talking!” Pleased with his heelness, Steen smirks before addressing how he ruined the world title match at the Anniversary PPV. As far as Steen is concerned, any and all world title matches that have taken place while he has yet to have received a rematch should be considered illegitimate. Steen challenges Black to a future match so he can regain “his” championship. Before “Mr. Wrestling” can go any further, he spots the NWA World’s Champion Tyler Black running out from behind the curtain as the crowd comes alive. As soon Black hits the ring, there’s a brief skirmish that ends with Steen retreating up the ramp. It looks like Steen is cool with heading to the back but Black snatches a mic and lets Steen know that if he wants his rematch, he can have it right here, right now! Desperate to be world’s champion again, Steen doesn’t have to think long before heading back into the ring. A ref comes out to make it official and raises the Ten Pounds of Gold high. When we come back from commercial, we’re gonna see Black/Steen II, LIVE on VH1! [83%]1. This is only the second time that the NWA World’s Heavyweight Championship has been defended on free TV since our rebirth and it wasn’t advertised before the show! Despite that, there’s clearly a big match feel for this one as Tyler Black and Kevin Steen pick up right where they left off at Starrcade. Black seems to be showing the wounds of war stemming from his intense match against Randy Orton six days ago as he fights from underneath for most of the bout. Meanwhile, whether it be because of ring rust or him not being able to prepare for this match beforehand, Steen makes a few uncharacteristic mistakes that Black exploits each time. One of those mistakes, Steen jaw-jacking with the fans too much, results in him eating a trio of Superkicks for a Black nearfall. Steen backdrops his way out a Buckle Bomb attempt, flattening the champion with a Running Senton. Mr. Wrestling gets back to his feet right into an RKO! Where the hell did Randy Orton come from? With such blatant interference happening right in front of the ref, official Rudy Chalres has no choice but to rule this as a DQ victory for Steen. Once he gets back to his feet and realizes that Orton’s interference ended the match, the champion gets right into the Viper’s face, nearly causing the two to go to blows before they are held apart by security officials. [***¾]- We get post-match footage from Sunday’s PPV where Rocky Romero is all sad because he lost the Rumble despite coming so close. His manager, Armando Alejandro Estrada, tries to console him by describing an after party with lots of bottles and women but Romero remains despondent. “Maybe that’s the problem. Maybe I’ve been focusing too much on the bottles and women. I don’t know…” Azucar trails off as he walks out of the room, leaving his manager behind. [79%]2. Brian Cage put in a strong performance in Sunday’s Rumble, highlighted by the SoCal native eliminating former TV champ Robert Anthony. Ego is looking for revenge tonight as he locks up with Cage in singles action. Very good match as Cage has low-key developed into one of the most solid workers on the roster. Combine that with how Ego always brings it, you get 15 minutes of back and forth action with Cage muscling around his smaller opponent. The more experienced Ego weathers the storm before picking his spot, turning a Superplex attempt into a Reverse Hurricarana off the top! TKO! Ego hooks the leg and gets the three count. [***½]- Robert Anthony can’t even get his hand raised by the ref before he’s jumped from behind by Keith Hansen! Ego’s goozled, Chokeslam! “The Outlaw” still has not explained why he stole Ego’s spot in a TV main event several weeks ago but he’s laid him out again here in Jacksonville. [79%]
- Pre-taped promo time with Derrick Bateman. “The Prodigy” flexes for the hoes after pinning Jeff Hardy during Sunday’s Rumble. He also makes it clear that he tore down all of his Batista posters after being eliminated by the former WWE champion on Sunday. [80%]3. Merceders Martinez gets a chance to showcase her technical skills as she exchanges holds with Cheerleader Melissa. Things appear to be even on the mat but Martinez has a clear edge when the match turns into a striking battle, lighting up her foe with brutal overhand chops. Martinez is hyping up the crowd when she spots Nattie Neidhart hopping on the apron. These two have been at odds since the women’s title tournament and Mercedes refuses to let her rival get the jump on her, blasting the Queen of Harts with a Yakuza Kick! To her credit, Melissa tries to take advantage of the distraction with a Victory Roll. Mercedes kicks out but walks right into a stiff Forearm Smash that leaves her vulnerable to the Kudo Driver! Melissa picks up the Hart-assisted win. These two gotta lock up again at some point. [***¾]- Backstage, NWA Women’s Champion Gail Kim is minding her own business when she’s interrupted by Chuck Taylor. Taylor congratulates Kim on her recent success before asking for her to appear on his talk show. “Afterwards, I can treat ya to a drink or something. *wink wink*” Unsurprisingly, Kim turns down the talk show/date offer but Chuckie T remains persistent. That is, until he sees Danny Havoc walking up and saying that he’ll gladly be the next guest on the Chuck Taylor Show. The Kentucky Gentleman initially balks at the offer but after some pressure from Havoc and Kim, agrees to have Havoc as a guest next week. [77%] 4. Ryan Eagles had the most shocking elimination of the night on Sunday when he pinned BLKOUT leader Jay Lethal. Tonight, Eagles teams with British Strong Style (Zach Sabre Jr. & Paul Burchill) to take on The BLKOUT (Lethal, Ruckus, & Blk Jeez) in trios action. To the surprise of no one, the BLKOUt work as a cohesive unit throughout the match, occasionally aided by ringside interference from Xavier Creed. To their credit, the rag-tag face squad are able to keep pace, culminating in Eagles hitting a Tope Suicida to take out Lethal, Jeez, & Creed on the outside. That leaves Ruckus alone in the ring to be lifted up by Burchill, drilled in the back of the head by a Roundhouse kick from Sabre, and finished off by a Brainbuster! Good win for the relatively new team and the white hot Aussie. [**¾] - Announcer Steve Prazak hosts a “Via Satellite” interview with the winner of Sunday’s Rumble match and future world title challenger, Austin Aries. Asked about his thoughts on the recent controversy surrounding the world title picture, Aries says that he doesn’t give a damn who he has to face. “On April 29th, I’m challenging for the World’s Championship. All those other details? Don’t make any difference to me. It’s time for the NWA to reach that A-Double level.” [82%]5. If Jimmy Rave cannot walk out of Jacksonville with the NWA Television Championship, he will never be able to challenge for the title as long as Low-Ki is the champion. With that stipulation in mind, Rave whipped out everything in his arsenal. The Rave Clash got a close two count but he ended up going for the Heel Hook a bit too early, leaving himself open to some brutal kicks that leave him dazed. The World Warrior works over the challenger with his educated feet but Rave fires up, rattling the champion with blows before connecting with a thunderous Spear. Realizing his previous error, Rave makes it a point to target Ki’s knee with his offense, wearing the champion down for another Heel Hook attempt. This one is locked in deep! Ki is clearly in trouble but somehow manages to claw his way to the ropes. Still not out of signature moves, Rave goes for the Pedigree but gets low-blowed by Ki after a well-timed distraction from Father James Mitchell. Ki Krusher! One, two, NO! Rave’s not done yet, much to the disbelief of the champion. With his options for offense limited due to his damaged limb, Ki goes for a second Ki-Krusher but his leg buckles under him. Ghanarhea! Rave got all of it! Rave hooks the leg. One, two, Ki’s grabbed the ropes! Massive mental error by Rave in not dragging Ki away from the ropes before going for the pin. The fans are behind the firey babyface as he tries to grab Ki only to be cradled into a Small Package pin. Rave kicks out but allows Ki to rebound off the ropes for a disgusting Running Knee Strike. The journeyman Rave is hanging on by a thread, barely getting his shoulder up before three but he has no defense for Ki slapping on a Dragon Sleeper. He fights with the little strength he has left but his body has nothing left to give. When the ref discovers that Rave is out after an arm check, he has to award the victory to the champion. In a stellar main event, Low-Ki has once again found a way to hang onto the TV title, eliminating one of his main challengers in the process. [***¾]

BREAKING NEWS: THE NWA PURCHASES INTERNATIONAL WRESTLING CARTEL April 1st, 2012
In news that is certainly NOT an April Fool’s joke, the National Wrestling Alliance has purchased the assets of International Wrestling Cartel (IWC), an independent wrestling promotion that traditionally runs shows in Pennsylvania. NWA owner Magic announced the news in a press conference earlier today, stating that IWC was nearly bankrupt before they stepped in. The NWA plans on allowing the company to promote shows under the NWA: IWC banner. Going forwards, NWA:IWC will operate as a developmental league for young and/or unproven talent. During the press conference, Magic also mentioned that there are plans for a NWA Wrestling school to open in late 2012/early 2013 as the company would like as many avenues as possible to discover and foster potential stars.
NWA TV on Syndication
4/4/12 Quick Results
- Akira Tozawa gets a rare win, drilling Bad Bones with a Deadlift German Suplex that lead into the pin.
- Peter LaSalle hypes up British Strong Style ahead of their tag team title match this Saturday on VH1, letting his men know that they are the shit 2x over.
- The debuting Sarah Stock, teaming with relative newcomer MsChif, suffered her first L as she submitted to Tenille’s Tayla Lock (Muta Lock). Tenille’s partner, RAIN, seemed very pleased as she watched on from the apron.
- A recap of last week’s VH1 show aired.
- Brian Cage and Chris Cage (Cage Squared?) team up for the first time in a losing effort as they are defeated by the Stellar Ninja Force.
- Johnny Gargano cuts a pre-taped promo, discussing his loss at the Anniversary PPV but mentions that he’ll take the first step towards avenging that loss by winning the #1 contender Gauntlet match on Saturday.
- In a battle of youth vs. experience, Jerry Lynn came out on top after hitting Cedric Alexander with a Cradle Piledriver.
- April Lee pinned Nattie Neidhart with a roll up after a distraction from Mercedes Martinez.
- The Switchblade Conspiracy get their chance to speak before Saturday’s title match, stating that they will dismantle British Strong Style “just like all the others.”
- Primo Colon and Richie Steamboat were looking to rebound from their tag title loss but were only served another L by the Hart Foundation and their Hart Attack.
- Kevin Steen cuts a brief promo, insisting that he wants another world title shot without interference from that “crappy snake” Randy Orton.
NWA on VH1 [76%] Episode #36 4/7/12 TAPED from Huntsville, Alabama
- Backed up by her cousins Teddy Hart and DH Smith, this week’s show opens with Nattie Neidhart calling out Mercedes Martinez. Despite being outnumbered, it doesn’t take long at all for the Latina Sensation to swagger her way out, ready to throw hands if need be. Acknowledging how the pair have wrestled to a draw twice, The Queen of Harts challenges Mercedes to one more match at this month’s PPV, Thrive to Survive. “No time limits. No count outs. There must be a winner!” A stiff handshake makes the rubber match official between the two women with Mercedes making sure to hold onto her rival’s hand for a few extra seconds to let her know she means business. [73%]
1. A tag team title match opens up this week’s episode as Switchblade Conspiracy put their gold on the line against British Strong Style. The champs look to be in trouble at several points during the hard-hitting contest but it’s BSS’ lack of experience that dooms them as Sabre Jr. accidentally clipped Burchill with a Flying Elbow that was intended for Calihan. It doesn’t take long for Sami and Mox to capitalize by isolating Sabre before drilling him with a Spike Piledriver. After the disappointing defeat, Burchill doesn’t seem too happy as he blows off his manager Peter LaSalle’s attempt at a post-match pep-talk. [***]
- In a pre-taped promo, Keith Hansen finally explains why he attacked Robert Anthony several weeks ago. Basically, Hansen was hatin’. He doesn’t say that but he talks about Ego receiving opportunities like TV main events that should belong to a real star like Hansen, “not some vanilla midget.” The Outlaw says that taking out Ego was just the first step towards bigger matches and bigger checks. Pretty typical heel turn reasoning but hey, at least his delivery was solid. [73%]
2. Tenille Tayla was looking to shock the world tonight but it didn't happen as she fell to Gail Kim in a short non-title match. RAIN accompanies her ally Tenille to ringside but is quickly sent to the back by the ref due to her lack of a manager’s license. Tenille gets in a couple moves before getting blasted by a Missile Dropkick, leaving her open to Eat Defeat. [¾*]
- As promised from last week, Danny Havoc appears on this week’s edition of The Chuck Taylor Show. The “interview”, if you can call it that, really just involves Havoc drinking beer and cracking crude jokes at Taylor’s expense. Known for being a habitual line stepper, it’s usually Taylor that annoys the hell out of his guest, not the other way around. Havoc just keeps on talking his shit and drinking before finally goading Taylor into swinging on him, ducking under his blow and eventually sending him to the outside! A crotch chop and a beer shotgun from Havoc closes out the segment as we head to commercial. [72%]
3. Coming off his unsuccessful bid to win the NWA World’s Championship last month, Randy Orton might still be in a foul mood but he can’t afford to overlook his opponent, Drake Younger. Looking to score the biggest win of his career, Younger has no problem putting his body on the line, flattening Orton with a Rolling Senton off the apron. The Viper comes roaring back with a Snap Powerslam but finds himself getting dumped neck-first on the top ring rope when he goes for the Hanging DDT. Drake N’ Bake (Death Valley Driver) into the turnbuckle! 1-2-NO! Younger snatches up the arms for Drake’s Landing but Orton slips one free. RKO Outta Nowhere! Ball game, Maggle. Orton gets the hard-earned victory. [***¾]
- Backstage, Kevin Steen and Austin Aries bump into each other, talking a little bit of shit but ultimately not coming to blows. As Aries pointed out, he was the one that was challenging for the world title on the 29th while Steen will be watching from a monitor backstage. [85%]
4. In a fast-paced encounter, Jeff Hardy had Jerry Lynn on the backfoot early on before getting cut off by an eye-poke. During an offensive frenzy, the former ECW champion almost secured the win with his signature Springboard Top Rope Powerbomb but the Charismatic Enigma rallied his way back into the match. Countering an irish-whip attempt, Hardy connects flush with Whisper in the Wind before hitting a Twist of Fate for the W. [***½]
- After the match, Derrick Bateman appeared on the stage to taunt Jeff Hardy after pinning him in the Rumble match last month. Hardy wasn’t tryna hear it, however and chased after Bateman as the Ohio native fled backstage. At least, that’s what it looked like until Hardy had a Singapore Cane cracked over his head as he tried to head to the back! “The Prodigy” came prepared and whacks Hardy across the back with some hard shots before choking Hardy out with the cane, finally prompting security to jump in and break it up. [75%]
5. Time to decide who will challenge Low-Ki for the Television Championship on the 29th. This is a 5-man Gauntlet match meaning that two men will start. The winner of that match will go on to face the next competitor. This will continue until one man is left. Johnny Gargano and Ryan Eagles wound up being the first two competitors, putting on a serviceable match that ended with Gargano scoring with the Hurts Donut. Gargano’s next opponentwas Rocky Romero who Gargano put away in short order after a flash roll-up caught “Azúcar” slippin’. Unsurprisingly, the already temperamental Romero was NOT happy about being eliminated so easily and showed that he was a sore loser by stomping Gargano’s shoulder repeatedly onto the steel steps. This left “Aces” easy picking for competitor #4, Jay Lethal. Being the valiant babyface he is, Gargano fought on despite only having one arm. Lethal wisely targets the injured limb, leaving Gargano unable to connect with Hurts Donut or even hold onto the Gargano Escape for more than a couple seconds. The inevitable end comes when Gargano has to submit to a Fujiwara Armbar. The fans aren’t happy about that one but Lethal drowns them out as he mentally preps for his final opponent, KENTA. For his credit, Lethal tries to keep the match on the ground, knowing that the NOAH star has the clear advantage in striking. KENTA ain’t no slouch with the matwork either and eventually forces Lethal to his feet, rocking his jaw with some palm strikes before a thunderous Roundhouse Kick. The BLKOUT leader looks dead on his feet and KENTA moves in for the kill. GTS! KENTA will challenge for the TV championship later this month. [**¾]
- Before the show comes to an end, the announcers send us backstage to Commissioner Adam Pearce’s office. Addressing the world title situation, he acknowledged that Austin Aries earned a guaranteed title match via his Gold Rush Rumble win. At the same time, he must admit that both Kevin Steen & Randy Orton have legitimate claims to a title match. As a result, Tyler Black will defend the NWA World’s Heavyweight Championship against Aries, Steen, AND Orton in an Elimination Four-Corners Match at Thrive to Survive! [78%]

I'm already looking forward to Thrive to Survive. You have such an awesome roster here and talent for telling stories comes across in every entry.
The 4-Way is exactly what I expected for this show, but it makes perfect sense, as these are four of the biggest names in the company right now. I'm all about KENTA vs. Low Ki, that would be such a stiff potato-fest in real life. And all the other angles are progressing nicely. I love it.

NWA TV on Syndication Quick Results 4/11/12
- We get “During Commercial Break” footage from the previous VH1 show where Peter LaSalle talks down Paul Burchill, who’s still upset over British Strong Style’s failed attempt to win the tag titles. Burchill eventually calms down but still seems disappointed, telling LaSalle that he and Sabre Jr. need to keep improving if they are gonna become champions. - RockStarDust (Kaos & Shiima Xion) defeated C&C Wrestle Factory in a solid match. - Kaos and Xion flexed for the hoes backstage after their win, cutting a short promo predicting future success. - Lisa Maria Varon (TAFKA Victoria), despite coming off a knee injury that put her on the shelf for the past several weeks, is still a fierce competitor in the ring, murking Sarah Stock with the Widow’s Peak. - Randy Orton discusses his upcoming title match at Thrive to Survive in a pre-taped promo. - Richie Steamboat looked good in arguably the biggest singles match of his career, challenging Low-Ki for the TV title, but still fell short after having his chest caved in via Warrior’s Way. - Adam Pearce announces that Keith Hansen will face Robert Anthony in a grudge match this Saturday - More shilling as we get a video hyping up the PPV replay of the Anniversary show. - RV1 picked up the first singles win of his NWA career, cradling Teddy Hart on a Candian Destroyer attempt for a flash pin. - Danny Havoc cuts a promo building up his upcoming match against Chuck Taylor. - In said match, it was Chuckie T that came out on top after a face from Havoc’s past, Brain Damage, laid the Drunkard out with a headbutt behind the ref’s back. After the match, Taylor officially introduced Damage as his new heavy, a bodyguard hired to stop “jack-offs” like Havoc from ruining his talk show.
NWA on VH1 [75%] Episode #37 4/14/12 TAPED in Phoenix, Arizona Announcers: Steve Prazak & Honky Tonk Man
- This week’s show is supposed to start out with a match between DH Smith and Drake Younger but it never gets underway. While Smith is waiting patiently in the ring with his fellow Hart Foundation members waving the Canadian flag behind him, the announcers scream for a camera crew to go backstage. As it turns out, Younger is getting the hell beat out of him backstage by a returning Eddie Kingston! We haven’t seen the War King since last year but it’s clear that he hasn’t forgotten his beef with Younger. The beating concludes with Kingston hitting a Piledriver onto the concrete floor!
After a commercial break, we see that paramedics are loading the injured Naptown Dragon into an ambulance. Younger’s manager, Peter LaSalle, hops into the ambulance for emotional support, instructing Paul Burchill and Zach Sabre Jr. that it’s up to them to take care of business in the ring while Drake receives medical attention. [67%]
1. Welp, that’s why we say “card subject to change.” It’s Zach Sabre Jr. that wrestles in place of Younger, rattling the larger DH Smith with his sharp kicks. Of course, Smith has a significant size advantage which is demonstrated by the ease that he’s able to swing Sabre around with before planting him with a variety of suplexes. With Burchill pounding on the mat and trying his damndest to will his partner on, the Technical Wizard catches Smith on a Powerbomb attempt, locking in a Triangle Choke! Teddy is telling Smith to “pop his hips” but it doesn’t help as the big man feels his air supply running out and has to tap. Very strong opener. [***¾]
- Backstage, Xavier Creed confronts Jay Lethal over a perceived lack of “leadership.” Creed reminds Lethal that the BLKOUT has been loyal to him and helped him in countless situations. Meanwhile, it doesn’t seem like Lethal is doing anything to help out the rest of the group despite that being the purpose of the group. Long story short, Lethal tells Creed to watch his mouth and know his place, going as far as to tell the former FCW star that whatever is best for Lethal IS best for the BLKOUT. “The Cornerstone” walks away before Creed can confront him any further. [70%]
2. Trios action is up next as Mercedes Martinez captained a squad consisting of April Lee & Madison Eagles into battle against Nattie Neidhart, Lisa Maria Varon, and Cheerleader Melissa. The real story here revolves around Martinez and Nattie any time they touch as the fighting is particularly fierce, culminating in Martinez breaking Nattie’s nose on a well-timed Forearm Smash. Both women eventually tag out and that leads to the finish as TAFKA Victoria lays out AJ with the Widow’s Peak following a brief skirmish. [**]
- Back from commercial, we go back to the ring where Switchblade Conspiracy are making an unadvertised appearance to flex for the hoes and reminds fans that they’ve torn through the best the NWA tag division has to offer since becoming champs. This leads to Player Uno walking onto the stage to a solid reaction. He seems to be alone until he motions to the back prompting Player Dos to make his first appearance on NWA TV in months! What was a solid reaction turns into a sizeable pop as Dos makes it clear that he’s been medically cleared to compete. The Super Smash Brothers are back and they want the next shot at those tag titles that some argue they never should have lost. The champs accept the challenge for Thrive to Survive but Sami warns their future opponents that challenging them is generally bad for your health. “You might wind up back on the shelf, Dos. Don’t worry though, we’ll make sure your mute friend is in the hospital bed next to you this time around.” [70%]
- With the addition of another big match to Thrive to Survive (LIVE from Atlantic City, NJ), the announcers take some time out to do a hard sell for the PPV before Derrick Bateman saunters out. After reminding the audience that he pinned Jeff Hardy “fair and square” (his words) in the Gold Rush Rumble, “The Prodigy” still isn’t done with his rival and demands that he come out for a face-to-face confrontation. Hardy’s music plays but it certainly Jeff that comes out. Instead, we get a really bad Jeff Hardy cosplayer, complete with painted on tattoos and a raggedy rainbow colored wig. What follows is about five minutes straight of Bateman taking the piss out of Hardy, mocking him for everything from his “reckless” in-ring style to his fanbase smelling like “dookie extract.” Even the few folks laughing along with Bateman must admit that he crossed a line, however, when he made a crack about Jeff’s past substance abuse. “The only things that get Jeff Hardy out of bed are a really high thing to jump off of and a bottle of pills.”
That must have been the final straw as the real Jeff Hardy sprints out from the back and starts beating Bateman’s ass with a fury almost never seen from the Charismatic Enigma. The fake Jeff tries to get involved but only eats a Twist of Fate for his trouble. Taking full advantage of the distraction, “The Prodigy” tries to bail but Hardy won’t let him escape, eventually leading to both men brawling on the stage. Hardy gets the upper hand and lays out Bateman on a table. Taking off his tank-top and pointing to the heavens, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what Hardy’s planning as he climbs the nearest scaffolding. Swanton Bomb through the table! Mah god!!! Medics rush the scene as Jeff appears to be banged up but it’s clearly Bateman that got the worst of this exchange as he has to be placed onto a stretcher and taken out of the arena via ambulance. [83%]
3. Hope you like veggies because we got squash on the menu. Austin Aries, preparing for his huge match on the 29th, murks Shiima Xion in about four minutes with a Discus Elbow and a Brainbuster. [***]
- Backstage with Jey Fatu, Father James Mitchell is hyping up the TV Champion Low-Ki as “the most dominant champion in all of the NWA.” This prompts the World’s Champion Tyler Black to appear, obviously taking offense to Mitchell’s comment. After a tense staredown between Ki and Black, a match is agreed upon for next week. It’ll be non-title but bragging rights will certainly be on the line. [82%]
4. In a grudge match that’s been brewing for weeks, Robert Anthony doesn’t even wait for the bell to go after Keith Hansen with a Tope Con Hilo. That opening spot sets the tone for what ends up being a give-and-take brawl, both men more concerned with inflicting damage than actually going for a pin or submission. That leads to Hansen grabbing a chair but he ends up eating steel thanks to a Dropkick from Ego. The ref sees it and isn’t quite sure if it’s a DQ’able offence but doesn’t have to consider it for long before Ego snatches up the chair and straight up whacks The Outlaw over the back. THAT’S an instant DQ and Hansen is technically your winner. Who gives a f*** though as Ego gets in a few more chair shots before Hansen flees to the back. [**¼]
- Still fired up, Robert Anthony calls Hansen “a little bitch” in a post-match promo. Since “The Outlaw” seems more interested in running than actually fighting, he’s going straight to Commissioner Pearce’s office and asking for a match against Hansen at Thrive to Survive that’ll ensure his rival can’t run away. “We’re gonna have ourselves a good ol’ fashioned Strap match!” [71%]
5. This week’s main event is a rematch from last November’s Scars and Stars as Jimmy Rave looks to even the score against “Mr. Wrestling” Kevin Steen. These two had a really good match last time around and they match that effort here. Rave utilizes his speed advantage to keep Steen guessing but ends up stopping dead in his track in an effort to not lay out the ref who had gotten in the crossfire somehow. That brief pause is the breather Steen needed to regroup, planting Rave with a Fisherman Buster over his knee (“Steen Breaker!”, proclaims Steve Prazak). Package Piledriver! Steen clearly has this match won but instead of going for a pin, he drags Rave back to his feet before connecting with an ugly looking RKO. It was totally unnecessary but it earns Steen the win either way. After the match, Steen says that he’s not “Mr. Wrestling” any more. “Call me Mr. NWA because I run this fu-*BLEEP* company!” [***¾]

NWA TV on Syndication [71%] 4/18/12 Quick Results
- In a match that went about 40 seconds, Brain Damage blasted Shark Boy with a Headbutt before sending the fishman flying with a Razor’s Edge type move.
- After the match, Chuck Taylor hypes up his new “insurance policy” before instructing Damage to lay out a rising Shark Boy one more time for funsies.
- Sarah Stock put in another good showing but was eventually forced to submit to Nattie Neidhart’s Sharpshooter.
- Grabbing a mic before their match, RAIN challenges Gail Kim to put her championship on the line in what was scheduled to be a non-title affair. Being the fighting champion she is, Kim accepts before being attacked from behind by Tenille Tayla! Since that cheapshot was before the bell, it technically isn’t a DQ.
- RAIN controls most of the title match, taunting the champion at various points as her ally Tenille watches on from ringside. The champion starts to fire up after connecting with a Springboard Crossbody, fighting her way back into the match before snapping off a Super Hurricarana from the top rope! That isn’t enough for a three count but the Eat Defeat that follows sure is.
- Apparently, Eddie Kingston will be given time on this week’s VH1 show to discuss his heinous attack on Drake Younger.
- Another CZW (& XPW!) champion debuts here as The Messiah teamed up with Ryan Eagles to defeat RockStarDust (Kaos & Shiima Xion) in a super fun match.
- Keith Hansen accepts Robert Anthony’s challenge from last Saturday in a pre-taped promo.
- In a brilliant encounter, MsChif puts away Cheerleader Melissa with a Desecrator.
- As a result of Rocky Romero jumping Johnny Gargano after their match in the gauntlet last Saturday, Commissioner Pearce books a rematch between the two for this week’s VH1 show.
- In a 3-way elimination match, British Strong Style outlasted The Party and Stellar Ninja Force.
NWA on VH1 [79%] 4/21/12 TAPED in Pheonix, Arizona Announcers: Steve Prazak & Honky Tonk Man
1. This week’s VH1 show opens up with the Super Smash Brothers making their official return to tag team action. Even though their opponents, Brian Cage and Chris Cage, are no slouches, the SSB look to be as sharp as ever as they run through their moveset before finishing off Chris with a Fatality. Not quite a squash but not far from it either. [***]
- Mercedes Martinez cuts a pre-taped promo hyping up her PPV match against Nattie Neidhart on the 30th. The Latina Sensation says that Neidhart might have the pedigree and name value but none of that is gonna matter when they are face to face in the ring. “I’ve already shown that I refuse to lose to you. At Thrive to Survive, I’m gonna take it one step further and put you down for good.” [74%]
2. Bad Bones’ bad fortune (lol) continues as he winds up getting murked by KENTA and his GTS in about two minutes flat. [***]
- Smoking a cigarette in a shady looking alleyway, Eddie Kingston openly admits that he’s spent most of 2012 in a rehabilitation center overcoming some personal demons but says that he’s back to tie up a loose end from last year. “That loose end is named Drake Younger.” Blowing literal smoke into the camera, Kingston warns Younger that his days in the NWA are numbered. Last week was just a taste of how far The War King is willing to go. [84%]
3. In a match that very well could decide the new top contender in the women’s division, MsChif and Lisa Maria Varon go head-to-head. Neither woman has sustained a loss in the NWA and champion Gail Kim is shown backstage watching the encounter. MsChif has speed and youth on her side, forcing TAFKA Victoria to take some powders to the outside. Some well timed suplexes allowing Varon to take control but a Widow’s Peak attempt comes to early as MsChif flips over into a Yoshi Tonic for a close nearfall. A Standing Moonsault earns the former SHIMMER competitor another nearfall before she hooks Varon for the Desecrator. Varon, utilizing her ring awareness, avoids the move by holding onto the ropes before cradling her opponent. Varon is using the shit out of the ropes for leverage but the clueless ref makes the three count! [*¾]
- Commissioner Adam Pearce, from the comfort of his office, announces that Derrick Bateman will face Jeff Hardy at Thrive to Survive in what is being dubbed a “Tables, Ladders, and (Singapore) Canes” match. [77%]
4. With Ruckus suspended for a month due to being a butthole backstage, it’s up to Jay Lethal and Xavier Creed to represent The BLKOUT against The Messiah & Ryan Eagles. Lethal is still looking to get one over on the Aussie that he’s been at odds with for weeks. Unfortunately for The Cornerstone, Lethal and Creed just can’t stay on the same page and wind up getting in the other’s path due to poor communication. The result is Lethal being sent to the outside as Creed takes a Double Arm DDT before being fed to the Messiah and his Fall from Grace finish. That’s two solid wins in one week for the newly formed team of Eagles & Messiah! The actual match was pretty kick ass despite only going ten minutes or so. [***¾]
- Backstage, Randy Orton is being interviewed by Jey Fatu when he’s interrupted by Kevin Steen. The two trade verbal barbs before sarcastically wishing their opponent luck in the world title match at Thrive to Survive. [81%]
5. Rocky Romero has been going through a rough patch lately and things only get rougher for him tonight as he falls to Johnny Gargano in a competitive, fast-paced match. Unlike the gauntlet last week, Romero doesn’t allow himself to be caught off-guard by a cradle but still walks into a Slingshot Spear before being planted with the Hurts Donut. Gargano celebrates his victory in the crowd as Romero sulks to the back with Armando Alejandro Estrada trailing behind him. [***¼]
- Back from a commercial break, we see that Rocky Romero is still sulking in the locker room area, silently sitting on a bench with a towel covering his face, almost as if he’s embarrassed to be seen in public. Triple A tries to do his usual hype man job but “Azúcar” cuts him off before asking his manager to arrange for Romero to have a specific match at the upcoming PPV. Armando asks for more details as the camera cuts to the ring for tonight’s main event. [67%]
6. Main Event time! In an ultra-rare (non-title) champion vs. champion match, TV Champion Low-Ki gives the World’s Champion Tyler Black everything that he can handle and then some. As soon as the bell rings, both men are moving at a lightning-quick pace that just doesn’t let up as the match heads into deep waters. Ki catches Black with a pair of kicks that have the blonde streaked champion stumbling but Tyler is able to regain his bearings just in time to slip out of the Ki Krusher. A superkick is deflected by the World Warrior but that only leaves him open to a Dragon Whip kick. Fade to-NO! Ki somehow wraps his legs around Black’s waist and forces him to the mat with a snug Guillotine Choke. The ref is right there as Tyler frantically searches for an escape before stacking Ki up for a one count. The submission resumes with Black almost fading this time around before again stacking up his opponent and this time rolling through for a cradle. The ref’s hand barely smacks the mat once when the bell rings. Both men collapse in exhaustion as the ring announcer acknowledges that the 20-minute time limit has expired. As a result, this match is a draw. Neither the fans nor the competitors seem happy. Black openly begs for five more minutes so the match can have a decisive winner but there’s no TV time left. Stellar TV main event but I’m sure more than a few viewers are pissed at being given the wrestling equivalent of blue balls. [****¼]

NWA TV on Syndication Quick Results 4/25/12
- RAIN and her protege Tenille Tayla were defeated by the team of Mercedes Martinez and NWA Women’s Champion Gail Kim. - After the match, Jey Uso entered the ring for a post-match promo with the winners. It was announced that Lisa Maria Varon will challenge for the Women’s Championship at Thrive to Survive, a challenge that fighting champion Kim welcomes. - The match between Rich Swann and Fenix went to a no-contest thanks to Keith Hansen running in and murking both men as well as Dark Dragon who was cheering his brother on at ringside. Hansen snatched a mic and asked Robert Anthony if he really thought “The Outlaw” was scared to face him when he could take out three men like *that*. “I’m gonna whip your ass like your ugly mama should have, boy!” - In a backstage segment featuring The BLKOUT, Xavier Creed again gets into it with Jay Lethal resulting in The Cornerstone slapping Creed to remind him who’s boss. - In a short but fun match that’s reminiscent of King’s Road style, Eddie Kingston put Akira Tozawa to sleep with a Backfist to the Future. - Hype video for Saturday’s VH1 show. The main event will be a major preview of Thrive To Surive as Tyler Black and Austin Aries form an unlikely alliance to take on “Mr. NWA” Kevin Steen and “The Viper” Randy Orton. - To the surprise of some, Nattie Neidhart was having a rather competitive match with Ivelisse Velez when she spotted Mercedes Martinez walking down the ramp. The Queen of Harts is shouting at the ref to send her rival to the back when she gets snatched into a Rear Naked Choke from Velez! The tap out comes pretty quickly as Mercedes smirks at causing er rival to take a rare loss. - The Party gets into it with Stellar Ninja Force backstage but no blows are thrown so it’s like. if you gonna fight, fight. - More interference in matches as Danny Havoc runs out and starts brawling with Brain Damage during his tag match with Chuck Taylor against C&C Wrestle Factory. There’s no DQ since Damage wasn’t the legal man but it does leave Taylor alone to eat a Lumbar Check from Cedric Alexander. - Primo Colon continues to be a solid hand as he takes an L to Teddy Hart and his Canadian Destroyer.
NWA on VH1 [76%] 4/28/12 Episode #39 Live from Trenton, New Jeresy Announcers: Steve Prazak & Honkey Tonk Man - In a preview of their championship match at Thrive to Survive, NWA Women’s Champion Gail Kim and Lisa Maria Varon were both guests on this week’s edition of “Taylor Made”, the new name for Chuck Taylor’s talk show. Neither woman is a great promo but Varon speaks with conviction when she talks about not knowing how many more title matches she has in her at this point in her career. As such, she plans on making the most of her opportunity tomorrow and walking out of Atlantic City. Kim acknowledges TAFKA Victoria’s speech and notes that her PPV opponent was one of the women that looked out for her when she was coming up in the business. Despite that, she’s worked too hard to just hand her title over so Varon better be ready for the fight of a lifetime if she wants the gold. Suddenly, the segment is interrupted by Danny Havoc who runs out to start brawling with Taylor’s heavy, Brain Damage. While that’s going on, Varon takes advantage of a distracted champion and nails Kim in the back with a forearm. As it happens so often, Chuckie T’s talk show has descended into chaos. It gets so wild that NWA Commissioner Adam Pearce comes out and orders an impromptu tag match! [81%]
1. Sure enough, we came back from commercial break to see Danny Havoc & Gail Kim vs. Brain Damage & Lisa Maria Varon. Much as they did on the house show circuit earlier this week, Havoc and Damage had a give and take brawl that featured more punches than actual wrestling moves. As a contrast, Kim and Varon appeared to be evenly matched in technical ability until Varon decided to grab a big handful of tights on a rollup for an abrupt three count! [**1/2]
- Backstage, Jimmy Rave is chilling in the locker room when he’s approached by Armando Alejandro Estrada. With a contract in hand, the Cuban manager says that he’s here on behalf of his client Rocky Romero. Citing the rivalry between the two last year as “one of the best in modern NWA history”, Armando says that his client recognizes how both men are on cold streaks at the moment and wants to reignite the fire of their rivalry last year with a match tomorrow night. With nothing really to lose and knowing that he could use a nice win after his failure to capture the TV title, Rave accepts the challenge and puts his signature on the contract offered by Armando. [64%]
- We’re still backstage but in Commissioner Adam Pearce’s office now as he meets with Drake Younger. Unsurprisingly, Younger wants a match against Eddie Kingston. Pearce mentions that the PPV card is full with the addition of Rave vs. Romero BUT he will give Younger the next best thing- an Ultraviolent Rules match against The War King next week on VH1! [74%]
2. With their respective partners removed from ringside early into the match, Player Uno took quite a beating from Sami Calihan but managed to turn things around after a Moonsault catches a standing Calihan off-guard. The Stunner soon followed and that earned the masked gamer the win. Very good TV match. [***½]
- The Hart Foundation is backstage with Jey Uso. Not much to say here other than Teddy assures his cousin Nattie that she’ll be victorious tomorrow. Teddy said more but you wildin’ if you think I’m transcribing his nutty thoughts. [72%]
3. Robert Anthony mopped up not-so-local competitor JJ Perez in no time at all, connecting with the TKO to earn the winner’s purse. The announcers mainly used the match to hype up his strap match against Keith Hansen tomorrow night. [**1/2]
- In a hype video that was clearly inspired by the UFC, both Low-Ki and KENTA are shown training extensively in preparation for the big TV title match. We also get comments from both men spliced over the footage as they discuss their strategy heading into the bout. Ki thinks it’s gonna come down to conditioning while KENTA insists that whoever has the greater “fighting spirit” will walk out champion. Our production team isn’t the best but they did alright here. [66%]
4. As he usually does, Brian Cage puts on a good showing in a singles match. Unfortunately, he was paired up with Jeff Hardy tonight which translated into an L for Cage after a Swanton Bomb. Hardy couldn’t celebrate for long after his win as he was blasted in the side of the head by a ladder! Derrick Bateman whacked his foe a couple more times before burying the Carolina native under it and posing with one foot on the pile. [***¼]
- Prior to tonight’s tag team main event, Austin Aries and NWA World’s Champion Tyler Black made it clear that they’ll work together tonight but tomorrow, it’s every man for himself. [75%]
5. While Tyler Black and Austin Aries didn’t have the greatest chemistry in the world, they certainly worked better together than Kevin Steen and Randy Orton. Both men bickered with each other throughout the match culminating in Steen hopping off the apron when Orton went for a tag. This left Orton alone to eat a Brainbuster and a Pheonix Splash, giving the faces the win. After the match, Aries raised the champ’s hand...before booting him in the gut and drilling him with a Brainbuster! [****]
