You've also got MJF, who could wind up being a HUGE deal. I am still surprised WWE didn't pounce on MJF long before now. Dude's like the product of a drunken threesome between Berto, Miz, and EC3. They absolutely want to strap a rocket to his ass. His character work at such a young age is off the charts. He is the most unlikable douche, a proper old school heel.

I’ll recommend, if it’s accessible, the last (presently) WrestleCircus Show in a 3 way with him, Jeff Cobb and Lance Archer where he’s not only awesome playing the smaller heel but starts the match selling getting pelted by toilet paper like he was hit in the head with a brick. Then he threatens to sue everyone. It’s great.

A title like the old X Division belt in TNA would be something I'd like to see. Anyone can compete for it, no weight limits. Have it as a mixture of hardcore or cruiserweight. That way you can have Pentagon vs Rey Fenix or Dave Mastiff vs Eddie Dennis or whatever.

If want to do non-title kudos for the midcard, they could wait a few months and do Bunkhouse Brawls or the equivalent, baybeh. I kinda want Cody have a 3 piece suit Bunkhouse attire. His Daddy used a steel toe boot, Cody whips ass with a loaded Italian loafer. Maybe a big belt buckle to bash over dudes' heads.

So, a little off track considering what everyone is talking about right now, but I do want to say that I am beyond excited and anxious to see how all of this pans out.
I've been in such a weird spot as a fan over the last.. 16 years? I grew up a WCW guy, occasionally watching WWF. Checked out parts of TNA when they did the Wednesday PPV's, and tried to watch more when Hogan came in.. sort of disappointing since he was a childhood favorite of mine. The news of AEW is really what I've been looking for since 2001.
If I could have AEW strive for one thing only, and it already sounds like what they're gonna do, is have them really present the show as a sports spectacle, much like WCW did in the late 90's. Every Nitro just felt so big and important. Having a good broadcast team is key here so I'm wondering what they'll do there (Schiavone would be great but every WWE fan bot would mock them as WCW 3.0).
I'm also hoping they dont get stupid like WWE and put f***ing LED lights over every possible surface just to look flashy. Have a dope entrance way, and call it a day. The way WWE has the crowd lit up, and all the gaudy production makes it 100% unwatchable for me.
So all in all, as a fan who hasn't watched regularly since a few months after the InVasion.. I'm hoping AEW can give me a product worth watching. By the looks of it its gonna happen.

I'm hoping AEW can give me a product worth watching. By the looks of it its gonna happen. I’m in the exact position as you are. I’ve kept up with WWE but haven’t been a regular viewer in years. WCW was my main promotion and when it closed so did part of my fandom. TNA got my attention but that has floundered. Don’t have the time to search for good Indy wrestling so i sincerely hope AEW starts with a bang. Good but not overly produced production is key for me as well. WWEs shows look so nice but generic at the same time. I’m just not impressed with it. I’m sure Cody and all the guys doing this have heard all the complaints about WWE from fans all over the world so i hope they’ll take all of it into consideration.

It's exciting times in pro wrestling, that's for sure. I do also have to say, that I'm also equally as scared that AEW will be some sort of indy-riffic, super kick fest, no selling ladder powerbomb spot fest show. The days of Lariats as finishers may be gone but I can honestly say I wouldn't be very interested in a show that targets smarks.
Just get great wrestlers, book great matches, and try to make every match seem important. I've dreamed for years of an American promotion that holds "press conferences" for their fights much like the UFC does. Probably a niche opinion but just little things like that would make it seem so much more important, even to a casual viewer.

If you want Lariats as finishers and press conferences I'd suggest watching NJPW. As far as AEW goes I have no idea what to think yet. I won't have a concrete notion of it until there's an actual TV deal and a schedule of shows. I'd probably do a TV based product with occasional All In PPVs with very few house shows.

Cody Rhodes has a good head for the traditional approach, and he's apparently scouting for traditional talent, while the Young Bucks are looking for the "game changer" kinds of guys. Hope that'll make for a good mix of both. I think on the second point, that'd be fun. WWE does contract signings sometimes, but they do it in the ring for the inevitable attacks. I'd like to see something more akin to the ones they'd do in oldschool WWF, like Hogan and Andre's WM3 signing.

Joe Lanza on the Voices of Wrestling Patreon update confirmed that MJF is in fact only contracted with MLW, and they're letting AEW use him, and he doesn't have a deal with AEW, although he's trying to get out of his MLW contract to sign with AEW.
With regards to February 8th, Lanza heard from sources close to OWE that CIMA and other dignitaries will be going to Las Vegas for press conferences on the 8th and 9th, so it's likely that was what MJF had to pull out of an indie booking for.

Yeah, we're a ways away from it, so I think that's why they haven't info dumped on us since the press conference. Some stuff's likely being hammered out, but beyond that, they probably just want to drip feed us information to keep AEW fresh in fans' minds.
