They explained that. No more heirs. Once Bran is no longer king, a new one gets chosen by vote. There's no way having multiple powerful factions voting on a ruler can go wrong. Especially when one takes the opportunity to go off and make their own kingdom. Especially after fighting years of wars essentially over a succession crisis. The benefit of this system though is that Bran can just be king forever by jumping into the next guy like Bloodraven did to him. Did I say benefit? I meant eldritch horror on the level of the God Emperor of Dune Leto II.

MAG NIFICENT to end an epic series but never truly end it MY QUEEN ..... FOREVER ..... after the utter destruction of the long night and the day of fire and I ******* CALLED IT DROGON FRYING THE IRON THRONE BACK TO HELL WHERE IT CAME FROM! he knew what was up ..... where he'll take his mom is quite a question ..... like so many other things! new kings landing, the comedy part of the show and the new king ..... BRANN THE BLOODY BLUNT! ayra's quest not to fall of the edge of the world the new green and pleasant land of the wildlings a FASCINATING grey worm trying to keep everything together, barely holding onto sanity and pure raw hatred! could literally PHYSICALLY see him work things out the north ..... basically jon was in a total no win situation, a true loyal person, heartbreaking ..... but the start of the episode was almost as much as, the silence as tyrion walked through the keep, and into the dragon heads tomb ..... brilliantly subtle achingly heartfelt absolutely astounding from epic to minute and from brienne writing I WAS HERE but lovely her scribing jaime's history too amazing really, the tv show meta's the books, and the bloody tv show goes and meta's the books!!! it opens it up beautifully, to give all those new possible directions AND we have spinoffs coming too, westeros ain't going anywhere folks it's like some neverending story ..... a better world and a distant rumble somewhere GOODBYE WESTEROS or have a brothel ON a ship! two birds with one stone!!!

Now that the show has ended, where does it rank among HBO's best shows? At it's height, you could make a strong case for #1. Overall still you could still make the case. I still think the Wire is the best written seasons 1-5, while Thrones checks almost every other box in terms of production.

I’d rank it behind the Wire and the Sopranos. It’s on equal footing with Deadwood. But that’s because Deadwood didn’t habe a proper ending. Yes, I know about the movie. I’ll reevaluate after that.
Amd that’s not a slight at all. We’re talkinh about some of my favorite GV shows of all-time. And at its peak, GoT could stand toe to toe with the best of them.

interesting question which one would you have preferred the story to be told
the LONG VERSION (season 1-6) or the SHORT VERSION (season 7-8)

Which I personally feel I read a ton.

What a f***ing mess that was. Not enough to completely ruin the show, but such an uneccesary rush.
- I never thought the show earned Jon and Dany being two great lovers, and so him killing her fell flat. The writers obviously agreed as it was buried in the middle of an episode.
- Skipping out on Jon telling the army stood outside he'd just killed their queen was a cop out.
- Is there a possible reason for why Drogon burned the throne that isn't completely ridiculous?
- Bronn was in this series for two scenes, and went from being one of the best characters to cringe-inducingly awful. Mericful for him that the show is over.

Now that the show has ended, where does it rank among HBO's best shows? Seasons 1-4 were the show at its best. I'd put it right at the top. Better than The Sopranos and on par with The Wire.
Seasons 5-8 the consistent quality fell off a cliff in terms of writing. There were some really good episodes and some absolutely dreadful ones, though Season 6 in particular was mostly good than not. 5 and 8 were the worst seasons overall, and it's hard to say which was worse: Season 5 butchering all the material from AFFC in order to transition from adapting Martin's character-driven work to D&D's plot-driven work (not to mention the cringe-worthy dialogue like "You want a good girl, but you need a bad pussy"). Or Season 8's doing its damndest to fit a round peg into a square hole since the Night King was murked by Arya and just being very unsatisfying overall.
The only thing I thought the show was consistently great about was its cinematography and sense of scale. They really made it feel like its own distinct world and did a masterful job of visually recreating Westeros and Essos. I even liked "The Long Night" in all its darkness because of how suffocating the dark was.

Also my favorite meme to come out of last night's episode is Communist Drogon torching the Iron Throne as a symbol of a corrupt institution of power.

Mericful for him that the show is over. Why did we have a scene without Tyrion arranging chairs but not one of Jon Snow being taken into custody? Did he surrender himself and to whom was he found near the blood or did he come forth to someone or everyone, what was their reaction? Jesus that's such easy character developement. He stabbed her then scene change he's in a cell. Speaking of cells, did anyone go check on Elaria Sand? God a scene with Cersei talking about sacrifices for love while drinking her wine and the things we do for love and then you see she's spilling her feelings out to an emaciated husk that used to be the mother sandsnake would have been beautiful. Instead just what felt like countless hours sipping wine at the window of the tower. Or maybe having her survived, and saved by Dany's attack, and echoing Yara's sentiment at the great council would have at least made that argument have some merit and saved us from having to try to apply some motivation to Dornish Prince 1. Bah, so many coulda beens from this season.

I would hazard a guess that it's because not even D&D could figure out how to write Grey Worm and the Dothraki not killing Jon where he stood, in their rage at finding out he murdered their queen.

interesting question which one would you have preferred the story to be told the LONG VERSION (season 1-6) or the SHORT VERSION (season 7-8) The final 13 episodes should’ve been 20-30 episodes. None of my complaints are with the story points themselves, just the rushed nature of the final 2 seasons. I think they told a good story, they just needed time to let things breathe
