#246 - The Grand Budapest Hotel
Wes Anderson does it again. The third movie of his that I’ve seen and all got the same score from me. His style is something I really enjoy. Great characters, fun antics, and it all looks beautiful. [****½]

104. The Toxic Avenger - It had been a while since I had last watched it (and the last time I saw it was on Netflix, which surprised me in that they streamed Troma movies). I must say that this film is not for everyone, ranging from the cheesy acting to the over-the-top premise, as well as the fact that all of the stuff in this film WOULD NOT FLY TODAY. Hell, it wouldn't have flown even a few years after it. Of course, this was definitely a part of Lloyd Kaufman's genius. If you enjoy B-movies, especially from that era, it's recommended, but seriously, if you can't stomach the gore and the offensive stereotypes and such, don't watch it.

132: They Saved Hitler's Brain (1963/1969) *1/4, Thry Saved Hitler's Brain is the TV version of "Madmen of Mandoras" in order to turn a little over 70 minute movie into a 90 minute one, extra scenes were shot to pad out the run time so it can air on your local indie/UHF station in a two hour (with commercials) block, the end result is a terrible mess, I've decided to skip the Thristy Dead which is a DUD and watch the Amazing Transparent Man next

105. Highlander II: The Quickening - So I made a point to check out the Highlander sequels as well, and I started with this one. It was fun, especially with some of the scenes with Sean Connery. I kind of laughed at Christopher Lambert's performance as an old man at the beginning (I get that he had been mortalized, but I would assume that he had the same age up until that point, so I could guess that he would be late 50s or early 60s in 2024, not that much older, unless he was sick). Some scenes had me laughing as well, especially Michael Ironside's performance. It was fun, but also laughably bad.
106. Highlander III: The Final Dimension (or The Sorcerer in some parts) - From what I understand, this completely retcons the second film, as this was treated as an actual follow-up to the first film. I have to say that the part that had me rolling for the most was Mario Van Peebles's performance. It felt like he was trying to be like Clancy Brown from the first film, though that car scene with the son had me busting up. Also, some scenes felt like it was repeating stuff from the first film (Like the hooker scene, for one). But I didn't mind it. I had fun with it. It was better than the second one.
Now I just need to check out Highlander: Endgame and Highlander: The Source. I heard Edge had a small part in the former, not to mention that there was so much hype over it on Raw and Smackdown back in 2000, even though his role was really small from what I heard.

#247 - Godzilla: King of the Monsters
One of the biggest disappointments of the year. The monster fighting is fantastic. If you can cut this movie to only contain that, you’ll dig it. The human drama drags this thing down like a heavy anchor. Still, there’s enough of the former to have made this enjoyable. [***]

#248 - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Another stellar entry into this franchise as the actors, story, and characters all mature. This one had emotional moments, great action, excellent new characters, and a fantastic climax. Outstanding film. [****½]

Dumb, silly fun, as to be expected from this franchise. The Rock and Jason Statham make an entertaining Odd Couple in action form.

#249 - It
There are plenty of elements that make this a good movie. It’s just not one I can come close to considering great because of some serious pacing problems. It is far too long and it feels repetitive throughout. But the acting is great and a lot of the horror aspects are well done. [***]

#250 - Leon: The Professional
This has a few minor issues but it is far from anything that would really hurt the experience. The action is great, you get three great performances, some touching scenes, and a whole lot of memorable moments. [****½]

240. Sodoma’s Ghost. Luciano Fulci movie about horny Nazi ghosts haunting six teens (who look like they’re at least in their late-twenties) who are stranded in the mansion where they (the Nazis) all died while having a drug fueled orgy during a bombing raid during World War 2. That should be all you need to hear to want to watch this. It wasn’t the best “Fulci” movie but it was actually a very enjoyable thriller. The Russian roulette scene was especially good. And there was a cool body melting for the last half. But that was really it. The “teens” are a lot more wholesome than your usual teens in a 1980’s slasher movie. I mean yeah they break into the mansion and drink some of the wine but they even clean up their mess. The quality of the film is exceptionally low. It looks like it was made in the early 1970’s, not 1988. And an insane amount of nudity. But then it just up and ends and it’s like “soooooooooo...that’s it?”

The (redacted) admini... I mean an megalomaniac industrialist sends an cyborg to kill an scientist but sadly for our industrialist, the cyborgs human side won't allow that to happen and the industrialist sends his hit squad to finish him off, this is Terminator/Blade runner done on a low budget

48. Mortal Engines (2018) - 6/10
I'm not familiar with this books, although if the rest of them aren't adapted, then it's really no big loss in my eyes. The action was good, but the characters weren't really ones I cared too much about.
49. Good Boys (2019) - 9/10
Probably the hardest I've laughed at a movie this year.

107. Edge of Darkness (2010) - I remember seeing this in theaters back in 2010. So it had been nearly a decade since I last watched it. I remember thinking it was just okay when I first saw. Now when I saw it again, I found it more interesting (Though I am curious about checking out the original British miniseries). The thing that I find pretty laughable was Mel Gibson's attempt at a Boston accent. I know that it was set in Boston, but the accent sounded too forced. Story-wise, it had an interesting premise and it kept me interested with Gibson trying to solve his daughter's murder and the motives behind everything.
108. Unknown (2011) - Now this was something that really kept me on my toes. The whole story kept me wondering exactly what was going on, especially with Liam Neeson not knowing what was happening with his identity. The twist/revelation made a lot of sense and there were some good action scenes. Plus, Diane Kruger did a good job in her role as the secondary protagonist.

#251 - Think Like A Man
The charm of the likable ensemble is enough to rise this above your typical romcom. There’s chemistry all over the place and Kevin Hart keeps it funny throughout, even on multiple viewings. A personal favorite and some of the most fun I’ve ever had with these actors. [****]

But a new series of robberies causes the police (and Robie's old Resistance compatriots) to suspect "The Cat" is back in action. Robie realizes that the only way to prove his innocence is to catch the new Cat in the act, so he contacts a jewelry insurance investigator for help. Robie strikes up a friendship with a wealthy American widow and her daughter (Grace Kelly), who immediately believes Robie is "The Cat" but is willing to help because she's a bored little rich girl looking for some kind of adventure. When her family jewels are stolen, Robie has to convince them to help as well... - Grant is the apex of charm. You just can't hate the guy, he is so cool. - Kelly is gorgeous, and comes across great as a spoiled rich girl. - amazingly beautiful photography. There's an aerial view of a cross-country chase that is just stunning, as it showed the countryside without losing sight of the two automobiles in the chase. - great meta-movie moment early on... Robie escapes police on a public bus, sitting next to some nervous birds in a cage (probably nervous because they'r enext to "The Cat"), and then he looks to his left and it's Hitchcock. - another great moment at the very end... when Kelly says "Mother will love it here", you just see the "What?" run through Robie/Grant's mind and all you can see is his eye. That's acting, damnit, when the audience can see what the character is thinking from just a flash image like that. A little slow but it's a cool heist-style movie and beautiful to look at. Highly recommended.
