#241 - Men in Black: International
The script and action leave a ton to be desired. It’s a wildly average sci-fi movie lacking the fun I wanted, but at least Hemsworth and Thompson work well enough to make it watchable. [**½]

103. Highlander - I can't believe it took me so long to finally watch this. Yes, it was pretty cheesy, ridiculous, and over-the-top. Not just with its premise, but also some of the performances, especially Clancy Brown hamming it up as The Kurgan. But it's definitely enjoyable. I might check out the sequels soon (Yes, I have heard that the second one and The Source were bad, but I am willing to check them out in spite of it). Oh and one more thing, THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE. Man, I just felt like saying that.

#242 - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
It’s the best Harry Potter film. I raved about it already, yet I still left a bunch out. It’s faithful enough to the book to satisfy those fans, while also delivering a great movie if you’re unfamiliar with the series. The grown up performances by the leads, the fantastic special effects, and the scenes involving the Triwizard Tournament and Voldemort were all tremendous. Stellar. [****½]

#243 - Can You Ever Forgive Me?
There’s a reason the only Oscar noms for this film came from the acting. Even with other bits being solid, there’s just not enough to make it great. [***]

237. Godzilla: King of the Monsters. This is the third time I’ve seen this now. I wouldn’t have watched it again but it’s already out on Blu-ray and my oldest son had to have it (which is fine) and made us have a family movie night with it today. That’s fine. It was a little harder to watch because the human characters are all so annoying. Godzilla shouldn’t bother with King Kong in the next movie and should just battle stupidity and bad characters. 238. Scarecrows. This had a really good concept and idea plus some good setting and the scarecrows look so cool...but it did very little with it. The scarecrows are barely in it and it takes forever for people to start dying. But I liked the characters and wish I could have loved this movie. I should have loved this movie. It just barely scratched the surface of its potential. But it was quite admirable how they did so much with so little. 239. Cannibal Holocaust. I felt like I haven’t tortured myself enough recently.

After being framed for the murder of a UN dignitary (in front of a room full of witnesses), Thornhill is on the run to find the real Kaplan and prove his innocence. And along the way, he finds a sympathetic ear of a beautiful woman (Eva Marie Saint), but is she who she says she is? Certified classic. Love it because it lets you figure out some of the finer details of the plot, instead of spelling everything out for you in big bold letters.

#244 - The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
A mostly disappointing collection of short films. They are rarely funny or all that creative. Each does feature some fantastic cinematography and are well directed. [**½]
#245 - The Unicorn
I came away enjoying this more than I expected. It’s not an amazing or groundbreaking romantic comedy, but it features some fun moments and great characters. A really easy way to spend 90 minutes. [***]

Shane
My daughter is taking a “Movies as Literature” course in which she has to watch classic movies and answer a series of questions about them. I have been appointed the validator of her answers so I get to watch the movies with her and be her sounding board for what she plans to write. The first movie in our series was Shane, the classic “gunslinger helps farmers stand up to evil ranchers”. It fully deserved its Oscar nomination for best picture.
