36. Princess Raccoon -A beautiful movie full of charm and fun by Seijun Suzuki. Zhang Ziyi is stunning here!

#252 - Big Eyes
A reeled-in Tim Burton guided this movie quite well. Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz are both great and it adds up to a very strong film. [***½]

Holmes & Watson - Ferrell and Reilly are very funny together in Talladega Nights and Step Brothers, but this just wasn't funny at all. I think only Kelly MacDonald shines here.

#253 - Assassination Nation
A top 10 movie from 2018 in my opinion. It’s just the kind of thing I want. I love the style, humor, action, and overall message that the film tells. It’s already a favorite of mine and I could see it becoming a cult classic. [****½]

#254 - It: Chapter Two
I feel like this is an improvement on the overhyped 2017 version. It is still too long and has some clear issues, but again the acting, direction, and effects are very strong. A bit more Pennywise and a bit less of some lackluster characters would have helped this a lot. [***½]

241. The Recall. This was like watching some shit MTV teen drama show unless Wesley Snipes was on screen. He played the “whacked out dude” part really well. Most of my time watching this was spent waiting for the annoying ass jerks to die, wondering why an alien invader was bothering with five donks in the woods and praying for Snipes’ character to go all “Rambo” on the aliens. Then once it got real bad (around thirty five minutes in) I had to keep watching to see how much worse it could get. Then I started reading all the 1/10 reviews for it on IMDB and that was more fun. I gave it a 3/10 because Snipes was cool and watching it suck was funny. I’ve seen WAY worse.

50. Angel Has Fallen (2019) - 6/10
There are some attention grabbing sequences, and a surprising number of laughs, but it is a very by the numbers action thriller.
51. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) - 9/10
A definite sci-fi classic, just behind First Contact as my favorite Star Trek movie. Shatner's trademark overreacting can result in some unintentional chuckles (like the memetic "KHAAAAN!" scream), but he and the other Trek regulars still put on good performances, and of course, Ricardo Montalban knocks it out of the park as the returning Khan. Watching Enterprise and Reliant circle each other as their respective crews try to gain an advantage is actually more exciting than a Trek outsider would think, and the scene where the eels crawl into Terrell and Chekov's ears still holds up as appropriately chilling. Then there is the funeral scene, which even if you watched the Family Guy parody, is still an effective tear jerker, helped by a bagpipe rendition of "Amazing Grace" that turns into a sweeping cue by James Horner's orchestra. Speaking of James Horner, he delivers with the film's score, which is driven by an excellent addition to the collection of main themes in the Star Trek franchise.

A wasted opportunity. There are good ideas in this movie but it is way too boring to get through. [**]

242. Terrifier. This was a lot better than I was expecting but it would have been so much better if it was just Art the Clown killing randos. That character was incredible; the acting, the movements, the makeup...THOSE TEETH. The gore in this was nicely over-the-top too. The sawing scene in this was so insane it was hilarious. Too bad it decided to have characters but it lacked characters.

#256 - The Bourne Identity
Of the 2000s Bourne trilogy I believe this is the weakest installment. It needed a stronger villain and more compelling plot. Still, what we get is a lot of fun. Damon is great, there’s some awesome action, and I was engaged throughout. [***½]

#257 - Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Some key elements from the book are missing but there’s more than enough here to make for a satisfying and entertaining adventure. Tom Felton is at his best, the rest of the cast do a strong job, and there are some great scenes in this one. [****]

243. The Beyond. So awesome. 244. Shin Godzilla. There’s a lot of political back and forth in this movie. A lot of talking and red tape. And a lot of characters. It got really annoying that they put everyone’s name and position on the screen when they got introduced, right down to fighter pilots and ground force leaders. And locations. We’re talking people who had a line or two of dialogue. That went on the entire run time of the movie right up to the end. I was waiting for “Hiroki-Janitor, Prime Ministers office”. Maybe it was a setting I could turn off on the bluray? Thankfully none of the human characters are a fraction as annoying and unlikeable as the humans in King of the Monsters. Despite all of them being politicians it isn’t all political squabbling. It’s about people coming together for the greater good, something one of the main characters even proclaims. This is a hard reboot of Tohos Godzilla. All of the others at least took the 1954(?) original as canon but this is a completely fresh start. Godzilla looks awesome. Probably the coolest ever. Some of the lower evolved forms are a little silly but some of the later scenes are seriously beautiful. The way they stop him in the end was kinda dumb. It leaves the opening for a sequel right there but the contract Toho has with Legendary pictures in North America prohibits them from releasing a Godzilla movie the same year as Legendary, so there probably won’t be one until 2021. It was just okay because Godzilla isn’t in it much, he barely does anything and he goes down kinda lame. But it ultimately is bogged down by the fact that it’s maybe twenty percent Godzilla, eighty percent people trying to come to a solution as to how they can stop him.
