If he leaves the WWE and tries his hand on the indy scene, he'll be exposed as Damien Sandow was. They're some of the better products of the WWE's developmental system in the 2000s, but being the cream of a bad crop doesn't mean they're great. The thing is, even in WWE Sandow was all kinds of ass in the ring. The Intellectual Saviour of the Masses gimmick was over, but once the bell rang he had nothing. The Mizdow stuff got over, but it was slapstick comedy, nothing more. He was exposed because he couldn't use the former, the latter doesn't work as a solo performer, and he had nothing else to fall back on. Dolph can at least work. He doesn't have much in terms of character, besides "I wrestle good", with the emphasis on being fiery or arrogant, depending on whether he's a heel or babyface. Even if he just does the exact same stuff on the indies, he'll be fine. The real trick is finding a niche that would enable him to reach the next level, and that is where I think he'll struggle.

Yeahhhh, Dolph's better on his worst day than Sandow was on his best. Sandow was good at physical comedy, but his actual wrestling scale was pretty much the bare minimum of what would justify his position. He hit his ceiling, and hard.
Dolph's pretty much Mr. Perfect Ass Curt Gunnig, so he would embarrass himself far less.

I think his lame personality and whiny promos have really hurt him.
And to think he used to be my favorite. Remember the big pop when he won the title? It feels like a hundred years ago.

He doesn't seem to be happy there and I think he has nothing left to offer in 2018 as compared to even five years ago. The roster is stacked. Everything he does well can be done better by someone else. Go do something else, Dolph, even if it's wrestling somewhere else, then if you're as good as you say you are you can earn your indie stripes and come back and then it's your turn to bury Drew!

The only place in wrestling I can see Ziggler making any sort of impact outside the WWE is in the carefully written and choreographed environment of Lucha Underground. Ziggler was legit the most over guy in the company in late 2014/early 2015 aside from Bryan, and got over purely from his wrestling. Comparing him to Sandow is just flat out wrong. He's not the same guy now as he was then unfortunately, but still.

If he doesn't appear in the Royal Rumble match, I'd say that's a good sign that he's on his way out. While his comedy tour starts that night in Phoenix after the Rumble, he'd have time to do both shows. He has been in every Rumble match since 2009 and most of those appearances went unannounced. I assume that many surprise Rumble appearances was an inside joke or else they thought acknowledging his participation would hinder buys.
Having said that, I fully expect to hear the record scratch when my Rumble pool number comes up.

I think especially with the Nikki Bella/John Cena/Ziggler love triangle hoopla he just wants to kinda get on Cena's level as far as being a 'Legend' of the WWE who does other entertainment stuff (i.e. comedy shows) and comes back to WWE whenever is most economical for both parties. That way he can go back to Nikki and say "I'm the better man" sorry I've marathoned the early Total Divas episodes where Ziggler is lovesick on Nikki and nobody can convince me different.
Ziggler needs to become the white Eddie Pryor in order to score Nikki, and damned if anybody will tell him he can't!

Dolph does this every year just to make people talk about him and at this point it's just kinda sad. I'll believe he's gone when he actually leaves, but even then I think him trying for comedy or Hollywood is more likely than going to AEW or something. I just wish he'd stop flirting with leaving and complain all the time if he's just going to fall back on signing again, over and over and over without fail

On an unrelated note: Wow, did the New Midnight Express look like 2 bad clones of Ziggler.

Ziggler's a decent hand in the ring, and sells like a Mary Kay rep two lipsticks away from sagging the pink Cadillac. But I think he's done all he's going to accomplish in WWE and might do with either a break entirely from wrestling or at least a stint somewhere else.

I already hate AEW because the journalists have already gone full on lazy with their rumours. Don't fancy years of this nonsense.
